Re: Team Crikey (Bindi and Derek)
Oh, my.
I thought it was a beautiful song.
But more important, Bindi described it as beautiful. Derek thought it appropriate, and I guess that's all that really matters.
I've actually heard it played at a wedding dance...and, as in this case, a parent or grandparent had passed.

Last kick at the Every Breath You Take can for me.
From a 1983 Sting interview with New Musical Express:
Sting: "I think it's a nasty little song, really rather evil. It's about jealousy and surveillance and ownership.
Regarding the common misinterpretation of the song, he added: "I think the ambiguity is intrinsic in the song however you treat it because the words are so sadistic. On one level, it's a nice long song with the classic relative minor chords, and underneath there's this distasteful character watching every move. I enjoy that ambiguity. I watched Andy Gibb singing it with some girl on TV a couple of weeks ago, very loving and totally misinterpreting it. (Laughter) I could still hear the words which aren't about love at all. I pi$$ed myself laughing."
To me this an interesting song but beautiful it is not

It is a beautiful melody even if you don't like the lyrics. Lucky for Sting, a lot of people like the song. Did he not want them to like it?

Re: Team Crikey (Bindi and Derek)
Lesallee, I can see where you come from, and normally I would agree. Everyone should comprehend this was originally a song about a stalker- plain and simple. But if you try to forget that for a moment and watch the performance, you may realize in this special context the lyrics get a different meaning, no matter if Sting ever intended that. It's not his decision anymore. Anyone can take a song and make it his or her own. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In this case it did.

If the lyrics were different but same melody it would be different song, not Every Breath You Take.Glittersisgld wrote:How about if the lyrics were different but same melody? It sounds like you only have an issue with the lyrics. Lucky for Sting, a lot of people like the song.
As I said, I find it an interesting song but not beautiful. it was not written to be a beautiful song. It came from a place in Sting's life when he had just parted with his wife and he wasn't a happy camper. I personally, have no issue whatsoever with Sting's lyrics; he is an artist sharing his thoughts and feelings. I simply found it an inappropriate song to represent Bindi's deep emotions surrounding the loss of her beloved father.
Now, I really am done with this!

I cannot really imagine it as an instrumental. Like many of the early Police songs, it's all about vocals and rhythm underneath.Glittersisgld wrote:It is a beautiful melody even if you don't like the lyrics. Lucky for Sting, a lot of people like the song. Did he not want them to like it?

I didn't mean it as just instrumental but if it had different lyrics to it.

Oops, sorry Glitters. I think I hit edit instead of the quote button, so I accidentally edited your whole post. Let me see if I can fix that.Glittersisgld wrote:I didn't mean it as just instrumental but if it had different lyrics to it.
Like Diddy's I'll Be Missing You? Changes the whole dynamic of the song, since they are both complete different songs.
That is interesting about the original version. Never really paid to much attention to the lyrics, but after reading them, totally get it now.

Re: Team Crikey (Bindi and Derek)
I never really paid attention to what the lyrics were saying and I just liked the melody. Now that I have been awakened to what that song really is saying I will never hear it the same again. It just went from a love song to a not nice song to me. I imagine a lot of people have not paid that much attention to what the lyrics are actually saying and just like the song for the melody.

Re: Team Crikey (Bindi and Derek)
I really meant putting any lyrics to it. The melody of the song is nice. The song doesn't bother me. I like the haunting quality of the song. I mean what the heck does ob la di, ob la da mean?BAL91182 wrote:Like Diddy's I'll Be Missing You? Well said, and the song's lyrics were tailored to just that. Sting's lyrics may be inappropriate.
But Team Crikey's edited lyrics were right on...

So... how many of us lost it when we saw the picture of baby Bindi holding her dad's finger? I know I did.

For not having dance experience, this 17 y/o girl is killing it on this show. Bindi and Derek had me in tears after their Contemporary. She was flawless and I have no doubt, Derek the task master, made sure Bindi would be flawless in that dance. Just beautiful all around.....choreography, emotion and execution. Well done, Bindi.

Re: Team Crikey (Bindi and Derek)
Bindi does have some performing experience -- not ballroom or anything remotely disciplined, but she used to perform on stage at her zoo in a singing and dancing group called "Bindi and the Crocmen". Something along the lines of "Barney and Friends".
More and more she is reminding me of Shirley Temple at that age. Sort of a natural showman just beaming with sunshine.

Re: Team Crikey (Bindi and Derek)
Maybe these young girls are just less intimidated by performing in front of a live audience and TV cameras. With her experience Bindi may even have an edge over Willow and Sadie there, though Zendaya was probably even more experienced. Anyway, this teenager is bringing out the best in Derek, and that is what I like most about this couple. Pure dancing. I hope they stay on this path.

Re: Team Crikey (Bindi and Derek)
Bindi does have some showmanship advantages, in that as long as she can remember, she's been in front of a camera (making friends with tarantulas and snakes) and being part of live shows at the zoo with her dad and mom. At the age of about four, she was talking to the camera. At the age of about five, she was teaching little classes about animals at their zoo to live audiences. And I suppose other kids have also been in front of cameras early in life but in her case, with a dad so genuine in his enthusiasms, and a mom who just loves her kid exactly the way she is, no improvements necessary, I don' think she ever felt that she had to be anything different than real. Willow, Sadie, and Zendaya entered the TV / movie world much later in their lives and probably think about the camera as something you perform to. Their "real" personas might be a bit different when the cameras are gone.

A whimsical performance, as if on the wings of angels; gliding ever so gently upon billowy, marshmallow clouds.

Re: Team Crikey (Bindi and Derek)
Okay thought I would move this from Alexas thread..........the last comment made about Bindis dance on Monday night ...actually the only one on this thread was from me. I looked on the switchup thread and the only comment there about Bindis dance was Luv and they said they did not like it as well as Zendayas.
The 'what you see is what you get being hard to take'(really bro Lol!!) It doesn't really matter if they are faking it or not. I just like good..and or entertaining dances and when I see one I say so. SEE ABOVE POST
Also I liked the dress in the top two pictures in your post on the other thread Psychee.....must have missed that one.

You missed the tribute to her father? The dance that the whole English-speaking world was talking about last week?
Or maybe you were so mesmerized by the emotionality in her contemporary dance that you didn't notice what she wore?
