Re: Week 2 - Season 23
According to his TV Guide blog, Derek is having problems with the music that they were assigned. The theme song from the TV show "Taxi" is a sleepy and somewhat sad jazz song. It's pretty, but it is NOT ballroom dance material. So he has been working with the orchestra to modify it a bit...

I was wondering about that song myself.
If they have a switch up week, I would like to see Jana with Derek

I know you don't, but last season one of my faves Jodie I think benefited from it dancing the Paso with Val, I really enjoyed that. Alexa ,too when she danced the Tango with Derek.
I would like the group dances to come back, I always thought they were fun!

Oh man, that would be ideal. They already enjoy great chemistry together. And he'd be careful with her injury.
But for switch-up week, they tend to give him the struggling star, or the one that requires the most delicate handling or creativity, don't they? ... so a lot would depend on whether or not Terra Jole and Maureen are still in the game that week. If they are, I think they might give him one of them.
I would bet (and hope) that Laurie was paired with Sasha; that would be utterly awesome for him.
And I think Marilu could be well-served by any of the male pros. She doesn't need any special handling from a psychological perspective. She's game for anything. Just please God no lifts.

Re: Week 2 - Season 23
LoL..I was thinking the same thing about Laurie and Sasha...he has such a great personality and energy that I think would go well with her.
I remember Derek with Sadie and their Charleston that I loved. It was also pretty funny Derek getting to go to the 'farm' and teasing Mark about it being 'Derek Dynasty'.
I'm going with Glitters on Marilou with Maksim. I think that would be a fun matchup!

I hated it in the beginning, and the pros hated it, too, but I've grown to enjoy it, and I think that most of the pros have come around to enjoying it as well.
Much depends, I think, on how they let go of the competitive aspects of the exercise and perceive it instead as a fun adventure, with just a teasing hint of competitiveness.
Remember Derek with NeNe Leakes? They kind of bonded during that week.
Watch what happens when they next hilariously share a stage in the first 50 seconds of this next video (no need to watch more than that): GLAAD AWARDS
I think the switch-up deepens the bonds that the cast members feel for each other. Instead of just knowing one person up close and personal, they learn to know two, and they also learn to know their families and friends.
But yeah, disasters happen as well...

I would imagine that Derek got Sadie because the family saw him as a guaranteed wholesome safe substitute for Mark. But the "Derek Dynasty" thing was quite cute.
Marilu could have fun with Maks and vice versa. Do you think he could be trusted to remember that she's 64 and not try to throw her around with acrobatic moves? A cheeky cha-cha would be just fine.

I like switch-up because it livens things up if they get kind of dull. The song from Taxi? I thought they would pick songs that were good dance songs and not necessarily match them with the celebs they would belong to.

Re: Week 2 - Season 23
Surprised myself and enjoyed TV Week when I am sometimes sort of ambivalent about it. But, for me, at least, everyone upped their game and the nerves seem to be coming under control.
Thrilled with that wonderful James and Sharna performance. Watch this team zoom to the top.
Calvin just oozes charm and likability and Lindsay is using a very deft hand guiding him along.
And Babyface, I think I love you. What a sweetheart. Allison did a great job tonight.
As expected, Laurie was excellent. Val is so happy with this partnership.

Re: Week 2 - Season 23
I may have because Julianne had held up one score and said another so I wasn't sure which one was correct and I had a question mark down with both scores on what I had written down. I will double check with what PI had down for Marilu and Derek. and make the correction if necessary.
You are right Pyschee22 - I corrected the score so there are 4 tied at 4th place now.

Haven't had a chance to watch any of the dances yet, but I went through all the comments on the team threads and it seems everyone upped their game. Do we really want to see those eliminations coming up?

Re: Week 2 - Season 23
Using the same comments I made in another thread--
So far I'm really liking the stars this season, especially the men. James and Calvin are totally charming and have great potential. I was impressed with Babyface's AT with Allison last night and will be watching him too. Vanilla Ice is fun to watch and looks like he plans to enjoy his journey on the show. I agree with Psychee that eliminations are going to be rough.
Enjoyed tonight's result show although two hours was too long. It should have been at least 90 minutes. I liked seeing the behind the scenes clips. Terra and Sasha's pranking was cute, and the brightly colored Mandy Moore pro dance looked so cool and fun.
Plus I would also prefer not to have switch-up week, but we know that won't stop TPTB if they want to do it.

Re: Week 2 - Season 23
Sorry to see Jake and Jenna go, I wanted to see them for a while longer. Both would have become more comfortable and confident and they were cute together.
The results show was way too long. My gosh, 2 hours - at times they were simply repeating themselves. It could easily have been done in one hour. I was reminded of the old days when a results show was the norm and I began to tune in only for the last ten minutes to see who was going home.
