Season 21 - Week 3
Here's the listing from PureDWTS of what songs they are going to dance to with the dances for few of couples:
ETA: Sure sounds like Paula & Louis have Gilligan’s Island as their TV theme. The question is: what the hell kinda dance are they doing? Almost sounds like a paso doble to me…and apparently Carlos has salsa. And Tamar revealed on The Real that she has tango, I guess. Taking you guys’ word for it on a lot of this stuff, cause I just can’t keep up…
ETA2: Based on the press release Vogue just posted, here’s the music for Monday night’s show. Gotta say – I’m actually pretty[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] impressed with what they were able to clear [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Love Breaking Bad theme – hope Mark comes up with some really edgy contemporary routine to it. I think Tamar & Val hit the jackpot with the Mad Men theme, which Derek actually choreographed a pretty cool tango to w/Allison for the Emmy live show a few years back. Looks like Andy & Allison may have gotten a song switched on them – but Bandstand is still fun. I may or may not have wet myself upon see “Thank You For Being a Friend” from The Golden Girls on here – but a SALSA??? Seriously???
ETA3: Vogue here! According to Derek’s new blog, he and Bindi have a quickstep. What a messed up week it’s been though since they couldn’t get their first song cleared at first. Be sure to read why HERE.

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
And already, we’re talking week 3 – it’s “TV Icons” week, and Alfonso is the guest judge. If my gut tells me anything, it’s that we might see some TV themes from past seasons reused, just to save time and money. But I’m sure there will be some new blood mixed in, too – I’d love to see someone dance to the theme from The Sopranos, but that’s just me [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]ETA: Sure sounds like Paula & Louis have Gilligan’s Island as their TV theme. Saw a pic on Sharna's IG showing Nick and herself in the setting. It looked great. Alfonso has really embraced the show. Winning season 19, appearing on the live tour, supporting Chris and Witney on season 20, returning to dance on the anniversary special, now judging. What's next- co-hosting? Whatever, this guy is fun. I just hope the dances will be a little longer this time.

Not only compared to SCD and other versions of the show, but also to previous seasons of DWTS they seemed very short indeed. Maybe that was due to having to learn two dances at this early stage- we'll soon find out.

Have no idea what the theme songs to True Blood, Downton Abbey, Mad Men, Breaking Bad or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sound like, and a samba to the theme from Gilligan's island? Alrighty then. < lol >

I once saw a tap dance done to the theme from Sanford and Sons. It was great! I don't know the tunes above.

Ever so often the pros have been challenged with "impossible" music. I don't think they ever failed to deliver.

Here I go, cautiously dipping my toe back into DWTS waters, lol. Anyway, I just listened to the theme from Downtown Abbey, Did I Make the Most of Loving You. It is a beautiful piece of music and Nick and Sharna will do it full justice I'm sure. I cannot find what dance they are performing, perhaps someone knows.DeadManDancing wrote:Ever so often the pros have been challenged with "impossible" music. I have not been able to find anything that says what they're doing. I read an interview with Sharna and Nick's blog and ABC's press release, but none of those mention what dance style they're doing. If costumes are anything to go by, I'd say a waltz or foxtrot maybe but since I have no idea what that theme song sounds like, I don't know if either of those would work for it. Guess we'll find out in a few hours.

Alfonso Ribeiro is about to experience Dancing with the Stars from the other side of the ballroom.
The season 19 champion is slated to become season 21's first guest judge, PEOPLE can reveal exclusively.
"Guest judging on Dancing with the Stars is like returning home for me but with the big twist of being on the other side of the judge's table, which is both a relief and exciting," Ribeiro, 44, says of hosting TV Week on the show, where each couple will pay homage to iconic TV shows.
The new host of America's Funniest Home Videos – a role he stepped in to after DWTS co-host Tom Bergeron – was previously best known for dancing The Carlton on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star, but after taking home the Mirrorball Trophy in 2014 with pro dancer Witney Carson, the dad of three is now also widely known for winning over America after, well, dancing The Carlton on DWTS.

Hi LM, I watch Downton Abbey, so I'm familiar with the theme, and I would think that the best choice of the dances they do, would be a waltz. Even that would be pushing it. The music is beautiful, but I would think it would difficult to dance to.
Enjoy the show.

Re: Season 21 - Week 3
I thought it was a good show tonight. Most of the dances were fun to watch and for the most part well performed. I feel sorry for Tony but glad that they let him do his dance with Jenny (?) from the troupe dancers.
My favorites for the night were Alek and Nick. Alek just has a nice presence about him when he dances and he leads so well. Alek and Lindsay make a very good couple together - they have a very good connection between them when they are dancing. All I can say about Nick tonight is . His dance showed a lot of elegance and it just ended to soon for me - I wanted to see more!!!

Re: Season 21 - Week 3
I'm gonna just say it. I don't like theme week. Some of the costuming is a throwback to a kids' dance recital.
Carlos & Witney (Jazz): I didn't like the costuming or the choreo. Old age and that kind of spry movement don't mesh. I couldn't get into the number.
Paula & Louis (Samba), Gary & Anna (Tango): I thought both did a decent job last night. I'm relieved the pros are maintaining the celebs' dignity and not pursuing comedy.
Tamar & Val (Tango): Well-danced, but she was wide-eyed in a blank stare, as expressionless as a doll. PS: Is this girl EVER happy with Val's direction? Or is confrontation part of her MO? It's wearing thin. I won't be rooting for her.
Alexa & Mark (Jazz): Loved the dance. The costumes, not so much.
Andy & Allison (QS): Good job.
Alek & Lindsay (Tango): I loved it! He is fabulous.
Bindi & Derek (QS): Loved it.
Nick & Sharna (VW): Beautiful!
Hayes & Emma (Jive): The Muppets forgot to lock their closet. It was pretty bad.
Last night's scoring was confusing.

Re: Season 21 - Week 3
I always love TV week when they do it. It's probably one of the few themes I usually enjoy. This was a fun night. I enjoyed Alfonso as a judge; he gave a lot of good advice and comments, I thought. Plus I just generally find him likeable. Julianne seemed a bit more restrained last night, which was good. CarrieAnne was mostly sane, although I seem to remember one WTF moment from her where she was just babbling.
Carlos/Witney – this was nice. I enjoyed it, even though I didn’t think it was his best dance. He showed a lot of promise the first week, but he has been hit or miss for me since then.
Paula/Louis – I thought Louis did a good job choreographing to that song. It’s not an easy one. That said, this dance was ok but nothing more, although I did enjoy seeing Sasha as Gilligan.
Tamar/Val – I like Tamar, but I thought this was her weakest dance so far. Or maybe I should I enjoyed it least. She needs to shut up, though. It was fun the first couple of times with her giving Val a hard time, but it’s starting to get annoying. I think it's supposed to be light-hearted teasing, but it's like the married-couple shtick - it's been done too many times now. And this time it was just silly. Has she never watched the show? Yes, it’s “sexist.” That’s the way it works. Also, tango. Also the way it works. I still think she’s one of the better dancers, but I hope they lighten up on the 'give Val a hard time every week' stuff. A little goes a long way. Oh, and this was the first week I really saw the 'vacant' look in her eyes when she was dancing. It was weird in places. I think she gets so into remembering what she's supposed to be doing that she forgets to emote through her face or something. Anyway, not her best dance but still one of the better ones of the evening.
Alexa/Mark – Mark’s choreography can be a bit out there, but I absolutely loved this one. His weirdness totally worked in this dance. Great job, although I do think 9s in Week 3 are ridiculous. This was one of my top 2 for the night.
Andy/Allison – Quickstep is one of my favorite dances, and I think he did a pretty good job with it. But I think he could do so much better with another pro. Allison herself didn't look that fantastic in this dance, so how could anyone expect Andy to look great?
Gary/Anna – I loved the Addams Family, and that was a great routine Anna put together. This may have been Gary’s best dance. That’s not saying a lot, of course, but he was certainly trying, and it was kind of fun.
Alek/Lindsay – this one felt kind of rushed to me. Not sure why. He did a nice job with it, but it wasn’t my favorite of his. And I could have done without the silly 'sexy' bit. But this wouldn't be DWTS without some contrived bits.
Kim/Tony – it’s unfortunate that she had to withdraw, but it’s really good to know that she’s okay. That must have been very scary. At least we got the treat of watching Tony and Jenna – it was really nice to see Jenna get a chance to really show what she can do.
Bindi/Derek – I really like Bindi; she’s always fun to watch. But I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to break hold in the middle of a Quickstep. A couple of couples have done it, but I’m not sure anyone was as egregious about it as this one was - at least so far this season. But it was a fun, energetic routine.
Nick/Sharna – I thought that was a lovely waltz. He cleans up nice!! And he did really well, I thought, with the choreography. It seemed a bit simple, but it was beautiful. The other top dance of the night for me .
Hayes/Emma – If Bristol Palin can dance in a gorilla suit, why not Hayes in a turtle costume? I don’t think his technique seemed that good in the jive, but it was fun anyway. I'm wondering if it was hard for him to dance in that costume because his arm movements seemed 'short' or something - like it was hard for him to extend his arms all the way?
I’m not surprised to see Paula in the bottom, but I didn’t expect to see Andy there. It may be one of those things where they’re trying to energize his fan base or something. I had hoped that the Hometown Glory week would keep us from having to sit through a Most Memorable Year, but I guess nothing will keep that one from being foisted upon us. < sigh >

Re: Season 21 - Week 3
A good summation of the show, LM. I tend to agree with most of your conclusions.
I could have watched Nick and Sharna dance that very beautiful VW much longer. It was the top dance, no question.
Alexa and Mark gave us a dandy, so energetic and well executed. Second only to Nick and Sharna to me.
My personal cutie favourite Hayes seemed constrained and constricted by that turtle costume but I thought he did quite well. Emma teaches well.
I think 8's across the judging panel for Bindi and Derek were too generous and wouldn't have been awarded to any other pair. I understand they had a constricted practise time and that she has a sore foot but the dance just wasn't that well done to me.

As usual, I enjoyed your commentary, LM. I agree with most of what you said. I really didn't care for Mark and Alexa's dance. Maybe it was the costume that I found distracting, but it didn't work for me.
Who do you think would have been the one to go home? I thought is was going to be Andy.

I think 8's across the judging panel for Bindi and Derek were too generous and wouldn't have been awarded to any other pair. I understand they had a constricted practise time and that she has a sore foot but the dance just wasn't that well done to me.

I also agree with both of you on the costumes and on Tamar. I have not been able to warm up to Tamar at all and thus am not enjoying watching her dance. It seems to me like she doesn't try to connect with Val.USN wrote:singlyme wrote:I'm gonna just say it.
Singly, I do agree with you on the costumes. I didn't like Hayes' and Alexa's costumes at all. I also agree with you on Tamar.

I neglected to mention how very much I enjoyed Alek and Lindsay. He is delightful and seriously turning into a great dancer. Lindsay is doing everything right and arguably may be doing the best teaching of any of this seasons pros.

I really agree with you on Alek and Lindsay. Alek just has a soft spot in my heart and I really love this couple. When Carrie Ann said that they were a power couple I think she was right on. Lindsay is doing a fantastic job in teaching and Alek is the perfect student. They are my favorite couple as far as couples go this season and Nick and Sharna are right up there with them.Lesallee wrote:I neglected to mention how very much I enjoyed Alek and Lindsay. I really wonder why she bothered to be on the show. If she watched just on episode of DWTS, she would have known that she would have to do things that might be uncomfortable for her. My guess is that she watched the show, and went on anyway. So, why would you put yourself through that, and the audience through the griping and complaining, if you are not happy with what goes into the performances. Poor Val.

Poor Val is right - I'm sure she is costing the team a lot of votes. For sure mine anyway.USN wrote:SLA44 wrote:I also agree with both of you on the costumes and on Tamar.
