Here is ABC's Press Release for Episode 1;
Looking for a second chance at love on the season premiere of the highly anticipated “Bachelor in Paradise,” beginning TUESDAY, AUGUST 2 (8:00-10:00 p.m., EDT) on the ABC Television Network, the cast arrive one by one to their own private paradise in the gorgeous town of Sayulita, located in Vallarta-Nayarit, Mexico. The cast comprised of former fan favorites and controversial characters from “The Bachelor” franchise live together along the shores of Paradise beach, share exotic dates, and explore new romances, all for another chance to find love. Each week, relationships will be put to the test as new contestants are introduced into the mix. At the end of each week, a rose ceremony will be held where uncoupled contestants will be cast out of Paradise!

I really like Vinny - he seems like a very sweet and down to earth guy. Hoping he finds whatever it is he is looking for. I'm interested to see how Jubilee interacts with everyone. I am uninterested in Grant and Evan. Major gross factor.

Also, the trailer has shown Amanda and Nick getting very cozy - but I read that Josh Murray changes all that.

So Josh Murray does end up showing up? I've heard rumors but that's about it. That sounds a bit contrived though since they were both with Andy. Everything is starting to really sound scripted down to the way they comb their hair.

Apparently, Josh does show up. Not sure how far into the show. You would think these big personalities would actually bring reality to the show, but I think you are right - scripted.

I rather think BIP is the most scripted so called reality show of all. I've read the spoilers so no surprises for me but I only wanted to watch for Jared and Wells so it's all good. When those two depart I will too, likely.

Why is everyone saying the show is so scripted? Are they supposed to be statues? Something has to happen just like in regular life. Some things may be scripted, but why suspect everything is scripted? It isn't that easy to act. What difference does it make if both Nick and Josh are on the show?

What would be an example of something not being scripted and how would anyone know? What proof is there that just because certain people are on the show that the show is scripted?

No black and white proof, glitters. Only past shows to judge by.
Certainly, they cast the show with a view to possible turmoil. Nick and Josh were rivals for Andi. Chad behaves like a psycho. Ashleigh is there to demonstrate her ability to cry nonstop. And everyone will cheer for Jared to find love.
If a ratings-maker is about to go home, I've no doubt they "produce" someone into keeping him on.

Yes, I believe they coerce situations. I don't know if that's what people mean by scripted.

Glitters, when we say 'scripted' it does not mean an actual written script that they're reading from. It's just like Singly said, there is heavy manipulation involved and certain people are there to have drama and chaos happen. Chad and Evan. Josh and Nick. Those are examples of people that are enemies with an ax to grind. Jared and Ashley I's situation is well known.
It has been said by past contestants in this franchise that handlers and producers are whispering in their ears to do or say certain things to sway the outcome of things. This is also something that was said by the current producer of UnReal who acknowledged the extreme manipulation that she witnessed and participated in when she worked for them. They can't take the chance of having a boring season or they would be out of business.
Do we know going in as to what is real and what is manipulated? Not usually, but sometimes it is so obvious that you'd have to be an idiot not to know.

I was going to attempt an explantation of what we mean by "scripted" but singly and rkc did an admirable job clarifying things so no need for my explanation.
Not to say there is no spontaneity involved, of course there will be moments and if they are interesting enough we might even glimpse those moments in an episode.
All reality shows are managed, manipulated and directed to the max. They can't just shoot reams and reams of film and hope something interesting turns up spontaneously. I just feel as though BIP is perhaps the most scripted of any I watch. And that doesn't really matter to me, I watch to be entertained and as long as I am entertained it's all good.
Not to say there is no spontaneity involved, of course there will be moments and if they are interesting enough we might even glimpse those moments in an episode.

I thought when they said scripted, they meant an actual script. Yes, I'm sure things are manipulated and there is coercion, etc. But I would have to guess also that there are times when people may not agree to whatever TPTB want them to do. I know about the Jared and Ashley situation among others. Thank you for your explanations.

I have been a Bach/ette fan from the very beginning. I turned on BIP last night and after 15 minutes turned it off and watched something else. It just seemed like the old pattern of bad behavior and hook-ups was once again going to be presented. You can only watch that stuff so many times and then it becomes trite. JMHO.

That was one interesting show... One thing that wasn't scripted was The Chad passed out snoring. That was not an act - you can't fake a drunken snore like that.

Wow...just, wow! I was starting to think that this franchise couldn't sink any lower.....that is until last night. Act or no act, Chad was so disgusting on so many levels and these people allow this crap to end up on everyone's tv screens.
Name calling? Seriously? Is he like 4 yrs. old? Lace wasn't much better so she made the situation worse, but making fun of Sarah and her disability was pushing it over the edge. And the producers not cutting his alcohol consumption off was very irresponsible. They knew a drunk Chad was going to give them good footage and so they let it continue. And then the whole part about drunken Chad crapping in his pants. Good grief!!!! The fact that they let all that stuff end up in the final cut just shows what low lifes these producers are. And then CH sends him packing....or so we think. Once again THE CHAD SHOW. So he leaves and comes back to threaten everyone. If this stuff was for real then this dude would have had charges pressed on him by now.
And what's up with Daniel thinking he's God's gift to women? How insulting that the first women to arrive were criticized that they weren't up to his standards. I think he's disgusting. He may have muscles but I never thought he was all that.
So all in all, I think the first episode was a disaster with the promise of more to come. If I wasn't bored last night then I would have turned it off. It's like watching a train wreck. Even if you wanted to you couldn't pull your eyes away due to the horror you were witnessing. Bad judgement producers....BAD!

It totally disgusted me how the producers set this all up and use people! Why do you think so much alcohol is flowing on both shows ? Lace was no better than Chad, she picked Chad thinking it would be a challenge and she'd show him he couldn't control her.How did that work out???The girl who was crying and so offended? Give me a break!Chad obviously has a drinking problem! Some get happy when drinking ,some get violent! Without the alcohol ,they wouldn't have a show! JMO,but I won't be watching any more!

It really was scripted, Dazz, I totally agree. Chad isn't even a very good actor, just annoying. And of course we needed to have Daniel the other dimbulb as part of "BIP Presents: Chad and Daniel, Mediocrity at its Finest".Dazz wrote:That was one interesting show... Oddly, I rather liked Evan last night and I certainly didn't previously. And Carly didn't annoy me like she usually does. I have to admit, I didn't watch all of it, I will try to catch it in its entirety next week and then decide if I will bother with the season.

I think the snoring was not real either...looked to me as if they just filmed Chad on the ground and then added snoring noises afterwards. I also don't buy into the whole crapping his pants thing either.
With Chad, at least they had a show....otherwise it would have been two hours of what? Grade school dates with clowns?! I don't understand the big deal with Jared and why all these girls are after him. Evan was still annoying but not as much as on Jojo's season.
Chris Harrison gets on my nerves so I would love to see Chad punch him out but I know that won't happen.
Sarah is the most annoying one on the show and it's too bad that she didn't leave instead of Chad. What he said about her was mean but pretty true.
