Re: Week 8, Season 23, Halloween
Loved Laurie and James this week. Liked Calvin and Terra. A little disappointed with Gleb's concept for Little House of Horrors. He redid the opening of the musical but forgot the Halloween theme. Why he didn't include Audrey II? Did he watch the whole musical? Jana's salsa was not very graceful either and I think that Terra won that dance-off.
Marilu is hitting the jackpot with the most obvious mistakes at the worst times. Hitting Derek in the face during a close-up? Maybe she took the Halloween theme to heart and has been possessed by a trickster spirit? Derek should probably protect his family jewels for next week's performance.

He had the highest cumulative judges' scores over the course of the season.Glittersisgld wrote:I don't understand this scoring. Why did James and Jenna get immunity when other couples scored 30? What was the point of the dance-off? I thought it was to decide who would leave. Was it just to get extra points? It seemed kind of pointless.

Re: Week 8, Season 23, Halloween
I enjoyed most of the dances last night and the Halloween theme was great fun.
The immunity and dance-offs were, in my opinion, for "seeding" the couples. None of the top three teams needed immunity nor did Jana and Gleb. But the schedule is clearly evident now. F4, James, Laurie, Calvin, Jana, in that order.

Re: Week 8, Season 23, Halloween
I'm with bailadora on Jana and Gleb. Where was the Halloween theme? And where was the Jazz? Me and Lesallee have praised Gleb as a choreographer based on his SCD appearance last year, but this was disappointing.
As for Ryan, I'm aware that some here like to see him leave- I don't. Partly since it means we're losing Cheryl, but also because I think he still had more to offer. He should have been given a chance to combine the posture he showed earlier with the performance level he reached last night.
As much as I like her, it would have been Terra's turn to leave. The judges continue to ask for more (yet overscored her more than once); only I don't believe she can deliver.
Marilu has far more potential. I'm just mad as Bruno that she keeps messing up. Where is this inconsistency coming from? I know Psychee was already expecting her to leave. I'd say at the moment it's probably Derek's fan base that keeps her in. Actually, she reminds me a lot of Melissa Gilbert. The difference is Derek is far more patient than Maks was in the old days.
Calvin continues the great tradition of the NFL on this show. He does give Lindsay a hard time working around their height difference. Not his fault though. Since Kym has left and Peta isn't available, there are actually no tall girls left among the pros. From that angle, last night's dance was clever, but was it perfect as the scores suggested? Not for me. It was hard to spot because of the black suits, but they didn't maintain body contact.
Laurie was a joy to watch, but let's say it with Goodman: too much messin' about. What also disturbed me was the package. Was it really necessary to show all the sobbing from Val? As much as I like the guy, that left a bad aftertaste in my mouth (and it may not even be his own fault).
If anyone had a right to cry last night, it would have been Sharna. Tears of pain, tears of joy, or maybe both.

Lindsay is 5'6". Peta is only an inch taller than her. Marilu thinks too much. You can see it when she is doing other projects. I think she likes to have a lot of control and it's hard for her to let go.

I wonder why Jana chose Terra for the dance-off. You think she would have picked someone who was more of a challenge for her. It seemed too easy for her.

The only other two left were Marilu and Ryan. Terra was the best of the bunch.
EDIT: Actually, Terra was the one who picked Jana, I think.

In the show they asked Jana and Gleb who they wanted to pick and they picked Terra. I specifically remember that.

Frankly, I do not clearly recall. Do you remember that conversation that Erin had with Terra later in which Erin asked her something about her choice and she said that she was looking for a challenge? Was that about her choice of dance, then?

She must have been talking about the dance, because Jana picked Terra in the dance-off. It even seemed like it was just Jana's choice. Jana whispered her choice to Gleb.

Re: Week 8, Season 23, Halloween
Jana picked Terra to dance against so Terra got to pick the style. Terra told Erin that she chose salsa because she hadn't done it and she likes a challenge.
I really don't think Jana chose Terra because she thought she was most beatable, rather because Terra was next closest to her in judges points. They always choose that way on these dance offs. Let's face it, Jana and Gleb would have wiped the floor with either Marilu or Ryan the only alternatives to Terra.
Jana and Terra are very friendly with one another. Anyone else notice they held hands going up to get their scores?

That's good to hear that Jana picked her because she felt she was a challenge. People are saying that Terra has her limitations with dancing but I guess she makes up for it in performance and attitude.

Re: Week 8, Season 23, Halloween
Ok, but I don't think the figures tell the whole truth. Peta is able to dance a lot bigger than Lindsay, and her frame is not that fragile. She's had two of these NFL guys herself, so you can compare the looks. The crazy lifts in the AT were probably easier with Lindsay though.Glittersisgld wrote:Lindsay is 5'6". I think Lindsay dances big. She has the long legs. I would put her on a par with Peta but maybe you're seeing something I don't. I agree she has a more fragile frame. I would think anyone would look small compared to Calvin.
