Maybe it's the rum cake; I don't know.
That article was a pretty good description however, and Loriot is actually one of my favorites. Nobody did more for the reputation and acknowledgement of pugs in society than this guy.

Some random Tour pics. Credit goes to Sharna, Val, Jenna, and Emma.
This one was quite a nice surprise. DWTS meets Strictly. Literally. Aljasz, Jeanette, and her hubby came to visit.
Jenna posted a warning with the next one, "don't try this at home". Why Jen, I'd love to.
Twice as nice.
No more trouble getting sexy, apparently.

Re: Between Seasons Conversations
I guess I just can't get enough dancing,so after N.Y. and Chicago got over their New Years countdowns, I switched over to the Turner Net and watched old dancing movies from the silent, then to the talkies and on to the present. You watch enough of them and you begin to see where a lot of our routines and tricks today were being done by Fred, Ray Bolger, Sammy Davis and Gene Kelly, Eleanor Powell way back when. Nothing is new. They had some old rare footage of Eleanor in the thirties and she was just spellbinding.I don't think there any females today that could do some of her moves. Fred Astair knew he had met his match when they had her partner with him in the 40s.

The biggest difference is probably the absence of flashing lights, crashing music, and fog machines. Jokes aside, it's a bit like cooking. All ingredients have been there for ages, but a good Chef still manages to find new combinations and give it a different taste. DWTS offers anything from fast food and home cooking to nouvelle cuisine. I recommend their Australian delicacies.
Happy New Year!

Probably no one will know who this is, but when I was young (very young!) my Mom used to watch the Lawrence Welk show. He was a bandleader and played the accordion. Some of his regulars sang and danced.....they have reruns of it on one of our channels and this show was from the 50's,and they did a lot of traditional ballroom....you are so right sis, it looked so much the same as some dances on dwts, but without the bells and whistles!!

I only know who Lawrence Welk is because my parents watched his show butI doubt my kids would have the foggiest notion who he is.Glittersisgld wrote:Who doesn't know who Lawrence Welk is? I'd like to know that.

How old are your kids? Plus they are from Canada, but I'm pretty sure he was internationally famous. I didn't watch his show.Lesallee wrote:I only know who Lawrence Welk is because my parents watched his show butI doubt my kids would have the foggiest notion who he is.Glittersisgld wrote:Who doesn't know who Lawrence Welk is? I had not ever heard of the George Michael/Wham song 'Last Christmas'. My granddaughter said..."I can't believe you haven't heard it, it's like White Christmas......they play it every year and she knew all of the words".
One of my personal favorites is 'Christmas Wrapping' by the Waitresses......'you forgot cranberries too?'.

Lawrence Welk had a show though for 31 years. DMD must know who he is since Welk was German. You know how all the Germans know each other. Lol! A funny story is I used to work in a building that Lawrence Welk owned and he and his orchestra would sometimes play on the lawn with the bubbles going and the whole bit.

When my son was in the womb my sister and I sang 70's rock songs to my belly. He kept it going and when guitar hero came out he bought the 70's songs and nothing like walking in and seeing your granddaughters singing and playing guitar to Ozzy Osbornes 'Crazy Train' and Blondies 'Heart of Glass'!!
