I Agree with Shawn AND Nick
BOTH men agreed (a first!) that it grieves them that TPTB CHOSE to devote far too much air time to "Shawn vs. Nick," which forced them to cut what we MOST would have loved to have watched: quality time/conversations between Kaitlyn and various men.
ABC, what will convince you that your audience GENUINELY will be more devoted to your show if you SHOW us the romance? We value that FAR above controversy, be it real or contrived. I long to return to watching romances grow; even if couples break up quickly, the HOPE I feel during the season is the only reason I tune in to watch.
Does anyone agree?

IA too. But if you look around at other TV offerings, especially some of the ones on cable, you will see "conflict" sells. This franchise started out with a lovely premise, and in the course of time, has become as sleazy as many others. If this is what the advertisers are buying, this is what you get. None of these shows could survive without the sponsors.

Newto is right. We have had many discussion on this very subject here this season. This show is nowhere where it first started out to be. Ratings have become a God to them and society anymore tends to go where the drama is. There has been so much bad talk and division with this show this season but to the producers, bad press is still press which equates to ratings gold. It's pretty disgusting but they will continue to try to up the ante every season and things will get worse each time. If they just let the season play out as is they know that people would get bored and eventually stop watching....at least the ones who watch it to see drama. This show used to be a family show and I was quite surprised the other day when I read in an article that they are still describing it as such. This show has become something that no parent in their right mind should ever let their kids partake in.
This hit home when during MTA that the email was read from the parent who said some pretty vulgar and threatening things to Kaitlyn all while stating that she wouldn't want her kids to see Kaitlyn's kind of behavior. Say what?!!! It seems to me that this mother had some issues of her own that she needs to change so her kid's don't grow up to be like her. People were taking this whole season out on Kaitlyn while the producers where letting her take all the flack for their dirty work.

Re: I Agree with Shawn AND Nick
newto and rkc, I agree with both of you, but I've been around since Season 1 and had never missed an episode until THIS season. No matter how many couples break up, the HOPE that I'm watching someone fall in love was the joy of watching, and I'm losing interest fast, the less I'm able to buy into the romance. I get the advertising schtick - I just don't like the show anymore.
That said, my attitude could do a 180, if BEN H is the next Bachelor! He's cute and seems genuine. I hope he was as popular with you all as he is with those of us who skipped episodes.

I like Ben H. as well. My fear though is that they will turn people against him like they have done to so many others.
I saw something today that hinted that they are considering Ben H. AND Ben Z. I seriously hope they don't do that again. That is what started a lot of the division with viewers right out of the starting gate this season. Like I said earlier...bad press and division turned into ratings for them and they may just be considering it again.

Re: I Agree with Shawn AND Nick
Well, we've had two bachelorettes and two bachelors (Byron Velvick's season), I doubt they'd repeat that theme again.
As to who they make the new Bach, IMHO they are looking for someone squeaky clean a la Sean. The show has been damaged by two controversial seasons, Kaitlyn and Chris, not to mention JuanPablo. If the show is salvaged they will need to show a real love story untained in any way.

Newto, I'm just not convinced that really means a lot to them. They knew that Kaitlyn wouldn't be a squeaky clean 'ette and not only did they not just let her personality and brand of humor make the season, they decided to up the ante and throw in way too much drama and they seem fine with that.

Re: I Agree with Shawn AND Nick
I'm with you, rkc. I'm not sure "squeaky clean" is what they're after, nor is it particularly a love story. They want the younger audience (18-39) and you attract them with something edgy.
In fact, I wonder if this plays a part in shutting down the boards. The constant posters on the Bach/ette boards, as well as the DWTS board (and I don't know about The View, but I'm guessing it's similar) are older than the sought-after demographic. So they were spending a lot of money on the part of the audience they aren't really trying to attract.
That's my guess and I'm sticking with it.
