Is it just me or does Michael G. look really out of shape/condition in this picture - it is very unflattering of him and it is :yuck:that they have all the guys holding hands.  Sorry but this is justIMO.

Again, this is a knock-off of Miss America, when they all hold hands to hear the winner announced.  Their expressions reflect anticipation.  If you look at this as a joke, it could be hilarious.

*Note Ben.  He's in his element.  Confident, legs locked and posed, "bumped" out in his speedo.  Lord, I can't STAND him!

Certainly a lot of spindly calves in the group.  Ben has girl legs.  And yes, Michael has a bit of ... shall we call it "overhang?"

I'm not as "up" on these guys as the rest of you.  Please identify #'s 3 & 11.  Is James missing?

I don't know who #3 is, and you can't see #11's face.  Perhaps James got a one-on-one date this episode and is not part of this fiasco.

Singly #3 is Zack K. and #11 is Bryden.  James is not part of the group date because he has one of the 1-on-1 dates and Brad has the other one 1-on-1 date.  I copied the photo from ABC's Bachelorette home page and it is photo #19 of 50 from episode 4.  Here is the listing of who's in the picture they put below the photo on their website:

Thanks for the ID, SLA.  After I posted, I thought it might be Zack K., but I had NO clue about Bryden.

I'm not going to "judge" it until I've seen it. I wish someone would 'splain why all of you find this idea so offensive (aside from the high heels). We have Mr. Universe, body building contests, Miss/Mrs America, Miss Universe. I don't get it. Do you object to ALL beauty contests - or just this one? I don't mean to be offensive or challenging - just puzzled as to why you find THIS contest disgusting. ??

If it's a mockery of ALL beauty contests, I think I'll enjoy it.

I'm going back to the basics of a heterosexual world.  In human nature men are the defender of the family (protector and provider) and we have a certain image of that.  Women are the nurturer of children.  Nature endows women with feminine traits to attract a man and women are attracted to men with their image of  physical strength to protect the family.  A men's beauty pageant on a heterosexual matchmaking show goes totally against human nature.   If it were a show that related to gay relationships then this male beauty pageant would be appropriate. No, I don't object to beauty pageants or body building competitions, when they are in the right context.

BTW Singly, I took no offense to your post.  I think it's a good thing having open discussions.  I also don't think everyone has to agree on everything to make the board a good board.

I thought I'd start changing my Avi to some actual sexy guys, since we aren't getting much this season. I'll start with Bradley Cooper.

I understand that they are trying to be funny, but I'm with Rein, I'm not interested in them in dorky dodge ball uniforms or high heels. I don't think they are making their bachelors all that appealing this season. How about some manly man activities and outfits? Did you notice Ben's neon pink shorts and girly T?

Hi, bachjunkie -- I think I remember you from the motherboard (??)

Someone used the word "humiliation" in reference to the beauty contest in tonight's episode.  That is true in any beauty-type contest or pageant.  Why are women paraded out in bathing suits all the time?  I wonder they don't feel humiliated.  I think that is the gist of what we are trying to express here; not so much that it is a bunch of guys in bathing suits, but just the whole premise.

Bachjunkie!  I hope you hang around and post more with us for the rest of this season and beyond.

In reading your post, rein - I beg to differ about nature.  In nature, it's the male who's more colorful to attract a female.  Don't know how we got turned around with humans.

I was surprised last night with the guys' enthusiasm for the competition.  I loved Kasey's comical tap rendition and Zak's song.  He had a pleasant singing voice and the words to that song were great.

I liked Manny and Jan.  How sweet they got to celebrate.  A Cinderella evening for them.  Love, love, LOVE Hootie!!  THIS is the kind of country music I'd listen to.

Not crazy about James.  Aside from his grim look on the helicopter and his cheating, there wasn't much character revelation.  Perhaps the "cheating" was enough for us to know.  Was the rose an overflow of generosity due to Manny & Jan?  Despite what she said to the camera, her expression during his confession said something else.  Looks like next week's focus is on him rather than Ben.  Can we please just get rid of these two and move on to greener pastures? 

Were there two 1/1 dates this week?  *furrowed brow*  If she went on a 2nd, it's left my mind completely.

The date with James was very sobering.  I had family who were without power for quite a while.  I know it was all a set-up but it was lovely that Des and James gave up their romantic dinner for that couple.  If what people saw pushes them to help the victims of that horrible disaster, so much the better.

As for the "beauty" pageant, Des seemed to enjoy herself thoroughly and all the guys took it with a sense of humor.  However, hopefully we will not see such repeated again on the Bachelor.  JMHO.

I've led a very blessed life when it comes to disaster - my family as well.  And I thank God for it.  It's difficult to even imagine how these people dealt with this - especially in the winter months.

Yes, Brad's date was "forgettable." While he was very handsome, he really lagged in the conversation arena. JMHO.

I love they helped Manny and Jan. I do not care if i was staged or not the fact they just wanted to help someone that has been effected by the storm. It was a perfect night to show it.  It would have been our 41 st wedding anniversary.
Not sure what I think of the men. So far no one has really stood out to me. I sure hope Des has a shovel cause most of them are really dishing it out.

So far no one is a real standout and it doesn't appear to be so with Des either, but you never know the way they run this show. I think for anyone, male or female, to tell someone they are interested in that they cheated on their ex is just plain stupid. Brooks still makes my skin crawl, and I think he's creepy. I think that they spent a lot more time on Atlantic City and Manny and Jan to put something of interest on the show.
