FAMOUS Dances for next season Empty FAMOUS Dances for next season

Post by Psychee22 Fri Oct 23, 2015 10:23 pm

Let's brainstorm ideas for "Famous Dances" for upcoming seasons.

I would nominate two dances that were performed by Antonio Banderas:

1. Paso Doble from "The Mask Of Zorro"

2. Argentine Tango from "Take The Lead"

What famous dances would you like to see recreated on DWTS?

Audrey Hepburn's  "Beatnik Dance" is an interesting choice, Oakma!

It certainly would be interesting to see what the pro's would do with it.

Good thread, Psychee!

Al Pacino's Argentine tango (Por una Cabeza) from "Scent of a Woman"

Yul Brynner & Deborah Kerr's polka (Shall We Dance) from "The King and I"

Thanks!  I like your nominations!

The Yul Brenner one would break through the "no Polkas" restriction that some viewers would like to put on the show.  In its own way, it would be as different as the beatnik dance that Oakma suggested above.

A polka would be great ... if they can do jazz and contemporary I don't see why they couldn't do Beatnik and Polka.

The show is hardly "Ballroom" any more anyway. If they would really open it up they would never run out of styles to try ... Very Happy

Girl Hunt Ballet from The Band Wagon with Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse.  I don't know what kind of dancing they are doing, but Cyd Charisse is so sexy.  The mambo from West Side Story.  Even though it's a group dance, I guess it could be pared down to 2 people.

I wonder if we have ever had a female celebrity on the show who could do that Cyd Charisse part.  Maybe that part should be played by the pro?

The Mambo could be team dance...

Good choices, Glitter!

Want to add the samba or salsa Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons do in the nightclub in Guys and Dolls to Woman in Love.

Would you want the woman to dance like she's drunk like Jean Simmons did?  (I love her)

I forgot about that.  Probably a better idea to do it sober for the judges.

This Heart of Mine from Zigfield Follies--danced by Fred Astaire and Lucille Bremer.  The song is lovely although probably not a familiar one with viewers today.   I don't think the DWTS crew could come up with sets and costumes quite as spectacular as what was in the film but I would like to see them give it a shot.

Thinking Of You from Three Little Words--danced by Fred Astaire and Vera-Ellen.  Shown in That's Entertainment 2 and is beautiful to watch.

It's a Lovely Day Today from Call Me Madam--danced by Donald O'Connor and Vera-Ellen.  I don't think Donald O'Connor always gets credit for great dances with a female partner.  He and Vera-Ellen are so charming in this one.

I don't believe I have ever seen them before!  But they are all on Youtube and are really nice!

Also .. I found it interesting that Vera wears flat shoes!

I'm guessing it's because of the heights of Fred and Donald.  Vera would probably end up being taller if she wore heels.  Cyd Charisse wore flats for the romantic Dancing In The Dark number she did with Fred in The Bandwagon but wore heels when they performed the Girl Hunt Ballet from the same movie.  In that dance heels added to the allure of Cyd's femme fatale character but the choreography had her frequently with softened or bent knees which lessened the potential height difference.  Fred's character in the ballet also wore a hat which probably helped too.

Vera was only 5'4".  I'm thinking she just preferred flats!

Just had a chance to see that again... yes, it is a lovely dance!  I like the bit on the boat bottom, especially.

BTW - she's wearing heels in that one!
