Season 19 Week 6
Dancing with the Stars Season 19, Week 6 – Who’s Dancing What….and When? (Song Spoilers)
It’s Pitbull week! Except not really…oh wait, I know! It’s Latin week! Nope, not really that either…hmmm. Who the hell knows what the theme of this week is supposed to be. Some couples are dancing to Pitbull songs, but not all of them; and we’ve got a few ballroom dances peppered into a bunch of Latin dances…oh, and one lone jazz. A little something for everyone, I suppose.
I could see Jonathan making a bit of a comeback this week, since jazz seems like it would be right in he & Allison’s wheelhouse; Mike is likely pretty screwed with the Argentine tango. Tommy could go either way with the foxtrot – it’s his first “true” ballroom dance, so it will be interesting to see how he fares. At the top of the leader board? I’m guessing Janel gets rave reviews for her samba, regardless of how good it actually is, because they need her to have a comeback week; I think Sadie will unfortunately be back to getting low balled after finally getting the scores she deserves last week. Ditto for Alfonso – I fully expect him to get nitpicked to death AGAIN, and if he & Witney are going the route I think they are with their salsa, they could be taking a big risk…so I’m bracing myself for the most harsh critique they’ve had yet. Bethany? One big question mark…this will be her first “intense” dance, which could work for her or against her.
Heidi is currently traveling and has limited computer access, but she wanted to make sure this went up for you guys She should be back later tonight with more intel…
ETA: I’m Baaaackkk! With Lea and Artem’s song – and no, it’s NOT the Iggy Azalea version. I also wanted to add that I’ve been rewatching the show and left something out of my numbers post that I wanted to mention. I REALLY appreciate and love how the dancers in the sky box are wearing little tribute costumes to one of their cohorts from time to time. This past week they were all wearing dreadlocks after Tommy’s dance, and this was after they were all imitating Tony after his audition tape was shown. The previous week they all had beards and duck calls. They show a lot of camaraderie with each other that is fun to watch. Which makes the judges and their behavior that much more dreadful. ~Heidi
ETA2: Lots of complaining by Derek fans about his and Beth’s song. Chillax, people. Of all people, he can handle it. And if it doesn’t work? Well, it happens. Jonathan? Much harder to tell how that’s going to go. Oh, and if you scrooooooll down, you’ll see Derek and Beth had a special visitor in their rehearsal. ~Heidi
Janel and Val – Samba

Re: Season 19 Week 6
I go to puredwts.com only to get dance styles. I can't stand these women otherwise. They make a big deal about how this is a 'neutral' site, but nothing could be further from the truth. They think their opinion is the only one that counts, and if you don't agree with them, you're wrong. Oh well.
Lots of different dance styles this week, so I'm surprised to see 3 salsas and that seems to be the only dance that has more than one couple dancing it. As usual, I've never heard of most of the songs - the lone exception is September by EWF. Not sure that's a great number for a foxtrot and why a foxtrot (or a jazz) on this night that's supposed to be Latin night? Weird. Dread seeing Michael attempt an AT. Am interested to see if Tommy can handle a straight ballroom dance with the foxtrot. I think it's mean to have Antonio do a salsa on the same night Alfonso and Lea are doing the salsa - he's bound to suffer by comparison. Should be an interesting night!
The one thing I am not looking forward to is the (I think anyway) inevitable staged scene with Sadie's dad over 'approving' the rumba.

Carrie Ann: There were some mistakes but thinks everyone gets him.
Pitbull: He really enjoyed it.
Julianne: That was Tommy from the beginning and he can be here for a long tme.

The dance is Great Gatsby meets West Side Story. It is so unique, so fun and made me want to get up and dance.
Pitbull: He wanted to join the dance.
Julianne: He got a bit too loose on top, but she liked it.

Julianne: She is glad they are back together and they killed it.
Bruno: He loved it.
Carrie Ann: She just spanks him.
Scores: 10-10-9-10=39 out of 40

Re: Season 19 Week 6
I muted the opening number before I had to listen to it. In silence, it looked like a burlesque routine. Come to think of it - anytime it's just girls dancing, they look like sex kittens.
So proud of Jonathan! His best dance.
I agreed with CA. Janel seemed a little off.
For Tommy, I saw some good and bad. Loved Peta's dress!
Haven't been a fan, but I thought Antonio moved pretty well - except during both lifts. Cheryl looked gorgeous.
Liked Sadie's costume and loved the dance. Can this girl make no decisions on her own?! Tired of the family involvement.
Emma danced while Michael walked and lifted. I'm really quite sick of people going home in his place. We'd have seen more "dancing" out of Betsey.
Lea's my favorite but I didn't care for the dance. I agree again with CA. She didn't seem completely "present."
Loved Bethany's performance. Hard to believe it was after only seven hours! That little slip was no more than a blip.
The dancing wounded. Hated Alfonso's music and the hip hop choreo.
**Spoiler** **Spoiler** **Spoiler**
Did you catch Allison saying she was happy to have Jonathan "dance with me" for the season? Her ego just can't hide.
And what's up with CA and the spanking? Free feels?

Re: Season 19 Week 6
I mostly enjoyed this episode, but I am so disappointed that Michael is still here and Jonathan is gone. Boo hiss!
Jonathan was terrific tonight, and there is now no doubt that the problem was Allison. Allison has a jazz and contemporary background, so she was able to really teach Jonathan this week, and he responded beautifully. I am so sorry to see him leave. I really enjoyed him.
Janel - I liked the routine and thought she danced it pretty well. Not her best effort, but still good. Hated the costume. Looked like it was just thrown together. The intro package was just weird. I wish the show would give up on the idea of a showmance between those two. It's just not working. And what was with her whining about the way he was talking to her? Unless they left out something important, there was nothing wrong that I could see with the way he was handling things. He was frustrated with her, but he wasn't nasty. Anyway, I thought the scores were fair to a little low.
Tommy - he's losing his charm for me. I just didn't like that dance at all. The intro package was fun, but the dance was not. He was clearly forgetting his steps and seemed to struggle.
Antonio - felt bad for Cheryl. That must have been hard. Antonio finally seems to be improving. He's still not that good, but he seemed a little looser this week, and I enjoyed the choreography.
Sadie - I am beyond sick of that family. Do they think it's 'cute' or something that this poor kid gets absolutely no say whatsoever in her life? Do they think it's somehow 'admirable' that they display to the world week after week that they do not trust Sadie to make good decisions? At least they spared us the dad doing the micro-managing but instead we get the mother and the grandmother. Give it a rest. I also find it extremely insulting to Mark that after 6 weeks they don't trust *him* to make good decisions. Ugh. As for the rumba, it was okay but no great shakes. I liked her dress; hated the shoes. No real hip action to speak of, and the rumba flow wasn't there. She wasn't making those faces this week but instead she was mostly blank, which wasn't any better. Not a good dance for her, I thought, and I was absolutely flabbergasted with her scores.
Lea - Not Lea's best dance and I blame Artem for that. I think he psyched her out a bit. The beginning was very nice, and then it kind of fell apart a bit. I agree with Julianne that she's the woman to beat, although that is probably just wishful thinking on our parts. I'm not sure she has the fan base for that. But I hope she's around a lot longer.
Michael - why is he still here? And what were the judges smoking last night? That AT was dreadful. So s--l--o--w. No sharpness or crispness to his movements. No passion. Just blah. Even the lifts were weird - I swear Emma was doing most of the work and kind of jumping up while Michael pretended to lift. Scores were ridiculous. I'm hoping the judges are trying to psych out his fans and make them complacent so they stop voting for him so he can leave already.
Bethany - given the lack of practice time, it was pretty good, but she was back to not really emoting the dance at all. I wasn't 'feeling' the tango at all. Didn't like her outfit or hair either. And I had to wonder if the scores were as they were so that Derek got to be a team captain again for the team dances. I think last season was the first time in forever that he hasn't been a captain. I know . . . conspiracy theories. Still I thought she was a bit overscored. I didn't think she was any better than Janel or Lea.
Alfonso - I just love him. Loved the dance, loved the choreography, love this partnership. I'm hoping his groin injury heals up some before next week. I'd hate to see him have to leave because of it. Have no idea what was up with CA. I think she's just totally losing it.
My favorites of the night were Jonathan, Janel, Lea and Alfonso.

mustang, I agree that Artem messed with her mind. Those first few weeks, she was radiant with her dancing. For the last two, that confidence has been missing. I haven't been impressed like I was in the beginning.
And I agree about Sadie's family. Is this show now called "The Ducks of DWTS?" I don't recall EVER seeing so much of outsiders on film. If they MUST be there, don't show us! But I must disagree about the rhumba. I truly thought it was innocent but lovely.
I think it's time to send out a scouting party to seek and destroy the cell phones of NASCAR fans. And Tommy's age has been showing "big time" these last two weeks. I can't imagine who's keeping him on the show. Cheech and Chong fans? Or bong users? He seemed an age novelty item but should have gone before Betsey, IMO.

Re: Season 19 Week 6
The two best dances of the night for me was Alfonso and Bethany. For Alfonso being not so much of a spring chicken anymore that man can move. And Bethany's foot slip didn't take away from her dance. Some of those outfits are a little too long and stepping on one seems inevitable.
Lea still did well but I agree that there seems to be some sort of disconnect going on right now that wasn't there before. Artem needs to stop worrying so much about beating Alfonso and just help Lea to do her best. We aren't privy to all of the conversations that go on between dance pro and student but apparently Lea felt disrespected by how Artem was talking to her and maybe that was part of the problem.
Janel still danced well but things did seem a little off. Was it sheer coincidence that Artem and Lea AND Janel and Val were off right after Artem and Janel spent that week together practicing a very sexy dance? Maybe, but Val seemed really put off by them last week. Jealousy? Flirting between Artem and Janel? Anger about it once the dance couples were back together? Hmmmm.
I liked Sadie's dance. I guess because her family is the basis for the celebrity status that that is the reason why they are shown every week. She is a young girl and a lot of times with a family with a strong Christian background you are going to see parental input into things like dancing provocatively and indecent dress. Unfortunately that is just the way it is.
I understand that Tommy and Michael have a big fan base but when better dancers start to go home over it, the time has come for them to GO! That is always the problem with shows that let the viewers vote on whether they stay or go. I think it's the pot smokers and the people of yester-year that got off on watching Cheech and Chong movies that are determined to keep voting to keep him there. My BF was watching a Cheech and Chong marathon a couple of months ago and whereas a couple of parts brought on a snicker it mostly caused me to shake my head and wonder what people found so funny about it. And a couple of weeks ago he danced to him being in jail over a drug charge. I'm just not into glorifying any kind of drug use. I understand that some people need it medicinally for pain management but Tommy did all this in the days where it was just a personal choice he made....illegally.
Jonathan and Antonio saw improvement. It's a shame that Jonathan went home on the tail end of finally having a good dance.

Re: Season 19 Week 6
Maybe I should clarify my remarks about the rumba. I thought it was good but not great. Parts of it were quite lovely - she had some beautiful lines. But then I usually think at least parts of her dances are lovely. Overall I thought the 8s that Julianne and Bruno awarded were appropriate because of the lack of real hip action and the absence of any real emotion from her. Pitbull said he didn't feel the connection between Janel and Val. I didn't feel it between Sadie and Mark. Whether it's because she was uncomfortable with the dance itself, I don't know. But to me it felt like she did the moves but didn't really feel the moves at all. It felt kind of by-the-numbers to me. For me, her first dance and the Charleston last week have been her best. I can certainly understand her feeling uncomfortable with the rumba, if that's what was happening. She is young and clearly very sheltered. But if that's what was going on, I don't think having the mother and grandmother around helped her any. I wish they would just let Mark ask Sadie what she is or is not comfortable with. She seems to be pretty grounded, so stop smothering her. I wish I shared your feeling that this was somehow 'normal,' rkc. I can't help feeling like it's just the family wanting to make it all about them and not Sadie. Especially since both the mother and grandmother mentioned one move, but then it was still left in, so obviously it didn't bother them enough to ask Mark to leave it out. So what was the freakin' point except to put on a show about how 'righteous' they are? At least that's what it feels like to me. I even got annoyed with Sadie when she talked about how they're Christians, so they'll always do what's moral. Really, Sadie? There's a Christian pastor right now running around South Carolina disrupting same sex marriage ceremonies. Is that "moral?" There are lots of Christians running around right now claiming that gay people should be killed. There's nothing 'moral' about that either. Christians are not automatically moral people because they claim to be Christians, and people who are not Christian are also capable of behaving quite morally. Anyway, not to rant, but I'm so done with the rest of that family. Just let Sadie be Sadie for a little while. I don't care how much the parents have to say about clothes or dance moves, just keep it out of the darn package. Let the package be about Sadie and her journey.
Also, note to show - can we let the packages go back to being about the celebs learning to dance? While it was mildly amusing, Tommy and Peta in a sweat lodge with him seeing Chloris Leachman was so not necessary. The whole idiocy with Val and Janel . . . not necessary. Last week's Derek Dynasty . . . absolutely not necessary. Good grief, I don't want to see that staged crap. I want to see the interactions between pros and celebs. I want to see how the celebs (and the pros) react to the stress. I want to see real, natural interactions . . . not staged junk.
RKC - just for the record, Tommy didn't go to jail for drug use exactly. He basically fell on his sword to keep his son from going to jail. As I understand it, Tommy took the fall for his son, which may not have been the best course of action but was certainly a loving thing to do as a father concerned that his son would not survive well in a jail cell. In any event, he's funny and charming, but he's reached the end of the road as a dancer, I'm afraid. At least for me anyway. I'm just not enjoying watching him dance the way I did at the beginning.
Singly - I'm all for destroying the cell phone, landlines, computers, and any other technological device that might be capable of registering a vote for Michael. From what I've seen on some other boards, having Dale Earnhardt Jr. in Michael's package pretty much guarantees Michael obscene numbers of votes. Which means we could well see another better dancer go home. In fact, if his voting fan base is as large as some folks think it might be, this could be worse than Bristol Palin in the final 3.

It has been rumored that several of the major drivers, including Dale Jr., have been tweeting for their fans to vote for Michael. If that's true, that's a l-o-o-o-o-o-o-t of people.

Re: Season 19 Week 6
I take it as the producers making it about Sadie's family and not just about her. That's why I said that Sadie's celebrity status was based around her family. Sadie seems like a shy girl and maybe there isn't a whole lot to tell about her apart from her family. I'm not saying that in the eyes of everyone that her family wanting to have a say in her dress and dance moves is "normal"....it is normal for what they do and how they live their life. In referring back to my Christian upbringing, my parents had their thumb on my siblings and I as well. We weren't allowed to dress or act in a provocative manner, the friends we had were watched carefully, where we went was monitored, etc. I'm just saying that is normal to kids that are raised in a strong Christian belief. I really don't like to get into conversations about Christian morality or government issues or things of that nature on these boards. Arguments have a tendency to start and I don't like to do that. I'll just say that everyone has a different idea of what morality is. All Christians should not have to take the fall for those who say they are Christians and act immorally.
I know Tommy didn't go to jail for what he did per se but took the rap for his son. In that instance. What I was saying is that there was a certain pattern to his life and he chose certain paths and jail was just a part of it. I'm sure that wasn't the first time he found himself in jail. If one of your children do something wrong to warrant jail time then getting them out of it by taking the fall doesn't teach them anything. I know as a parent I wouldn't want to see my child go to jail but if they don't learn from the experience than there is a good chance they will go back and repeat the action. All I'm saying is that to this day Cheech and Chong and their pot smoking and womanizing in their movies is glorified by fans.
As to Michael and him getting the Nascar votes, I think (I hope) that once the dancers are more narrowed down in numbers that all of the votes that were going to dancers that have been eliminated will go to the better ones left and hopefully that will outnumber votes for Michael.

Re: Season 19 Week 6
rkc, I have absolutely no problem with Sadie dressing modestly. I went round and around with my eldest about dress code when Madonna was a big hit. As parents, we must put limits and guidelines in place with our kids. But I must say, I never would have embarrassed my daughter by putting that thumb on her in front of her peers or in public.
Sadie is supposed to be the star here, but they have relegated her to a shadow puppet of her parents. It's the fault of TPTB we're seeing their constant supervision of her every move. It could all have been left on the cutting room floor. They're making her look like a two-year-old, when she seems to have her own sense of what's right.
I'm over Tommy. Amazed at first with his dancing for his age. But the thrill is gone. lol. He can go home with a pat on the back and job well done.
I hope you're right about Michael. We could lose Tommy and Antonio and still not miss anything. When we start losing the "meat" of the remaining talent - THAT'S when it gets annoying. The rest of them actually deserve to stay over Michael, IMHO.

Re: Season 19 Week 6
Thanks, Singly. You put it perfectly. I don't know why TPTB have chosen to show her family and their behind-the-scenes machinations, but it does a great disservice, I think, to Sadie. They could make the packages about her learning each dance, and that is all they would need to do. We don't need to see her entire packages being more about others than about her.
I agree, rkc, with what you're saying about Tommy, but I also understood his choosing to dance that particular dance about that stint in prison, as it made a profound impression on him. As it should to any sensible person!
And I agree about Michael. I so hope you are right!
