Re: Season 23 - Week 4
I have only a passing familiarity with Cirque d' Soleil, and I couldn't tell you anything about any of their specific shows. But this sounds like it will be a fun way for the pros to exercise some creativity. Sounds like everything will fall under the freestyle/contemporary/jazz heading? Anyway, I think it sounds like fun.

Re: Season 23 - Week 4
Most everyone did quite well last night.
Val looked adorable doing MJ and Laurie looked like a pro. Standout of the night.
The other standout was Allison shoving and pulling Babyface from spot to spot. I really couldn't follow a dance of any kind.
Julianne's captured comment about Amber's dance last week reflected my own. I found it vulgar. This week, it was about dancing and I thought she did well. I simply didn't appreciate Maks having to climb on top of her at the end.
I have nothing against Jana, and she seems to dance well. But she doesn't wow me like Laurie or James.
There was quite a transformation between rehearsal and final performance for Maureen and Marilu.

Re: Season 23 - Week 4
I agree, Singly. I didn't honestly know what was wrong with Babyface's dance, but it just seemed so terribly off. Everyone else did quite well, I thought.
Laurie/Val with that Michael Jackson was the standout of the night. Laurie absolutely killed it!! Fantastic! I thought James was great as was Calvin. I was surprised they scored him so (comparatively) low.
I wouldn't have given Terra a 9, but I enjoyed her dance. Sasha does a wonderful job with her. I thought Ryan did well tonight, too. Probably his best dance.
Overall, I thought this was a great evening. I really enjoyed that theme.
I have no idea who will go home tonight. I hate when they spring a surprise double elimination. Babyface should go home, but after that, I have no idea.

Re: Season 23 - Week 4
I missed the first 1/2 hour of the show last night but I did see the Allison/Babyface dance and thought is was awful - it was suppose to be a tango but it was either terrible choreography or something really went a muck!
I didn't think that Terra deserved a 9 - I do think Sasha does a wonderful job with her but I do not enjoy watching her on the dance floor and I'm sure that is just me.
I thought Ryan did very well last night - his best dance so far IMO and thought he deserved a little higher score. JMO
Laurie/Val were absolutely the standout of the night with James a very close second for that spot last night. I thought James/Sharna were so much better than Terra so I still don't understand the 9 Carrie Anne gave her and also gave the same score to James - just doesn't make sense to me.
I'm sorry I missed Calvin/Lindsay dance because he is one that I really like his attitude and charm.

Re: Season 23 - Week 4
You didn't miss much, SLA. Allison choreographed a tango that depended on spotlights. Their pace was supposed to keep them in the spot as one went off and the next went on. They spent a lot of time in the dark. It ended up looking like a race for the light. I find I'm not very charitable when it comes to Allison. She's still a showboat.

Re: Season 23 - Week 4
The first time I saw the dance, I thought it was Allison's choreography that made it look so frantic. I think her choreography was still the problem, but it was a problem because Babyface couldn't get it down correctly. When they replayed it last night, I saw for the first time how off his footwork was. He just messed up time after time, which is why they were always racing for the light. I think a more experienced ballroom pro would have known she needed to change the choreo for him. I suspect that had he been able to master it, the dance would have looked great.
I would have preferred to see Marilu leave last night instead of Vanilla Ice. She seemed to have peaked the second week with the Taxi dance and started going downhill from there. The last two weeks she's been stiff and seemingly ill-at-ease in her dancing. Vanilla Ice, on the other hand, seemed to me to be improving, and I thought his dance this week was pretty good. But he probably doesn't have the fanbase that Marilu does, and from things I've heard it sounds like he's got something in his past that people aren't ready to let go of yet. Since I didn't know him at all except for that one song, I liked him just fine, and he seemed to have a good attitude and was working hard.
Next week apparently is sob story week. Honestly, this is one theme I wish they'd let go. Most of the time it's played for sympathy, once in a while it's kind of creepy, and contestants without a sob story seem to get lost in the shuffle.

Re: Season 23 - Week 4
I guess the only dance I missed was Calvin and Lindsay's. So many it was a combination of Allison's choreography and Babyface just not getting it. I, like Singlyme, just don't care for Allison - to me she just choreographs to make her look good and doesn't seem to care about her partner but this time it caught up with her I think.
IA LM, I would have preferred to see Marilu leave last night as well. I also agree with what you said about her going downhill, I didn't think she looked good at all Monday night - well maybe a wee bit better than poor Babyface but not as good as anyone else IMO. I don't know anything about Vanilla Ice either so know nothing of his past or his music (rap) for that matter.
And just UGH on the sob story week - I could do without it.
