One week left until the season premiere, which will consist of two shows (Friday and Saturday).

The launch show looked promising already. One and a half hours only about pros and celebs- what a difference to the disappointing DWTS cast reveal on GMA; let alone the dry press release I have to live with over here!

First shocker: Tess announced it will be Len's final series. Wonder what this means for DWTS...

The Strictly FB page has been giving some rehearsal footage and it all looks promising. Looking forward to the show.

We say it so often; Strictly does things so differently and at least to my mind, better.

Let's be glad the shows do not all look the same. It's much more interesting to observe the differences. I have to be honest: DWTS is close behind. The US pros are top notch, and there are so many we've had the pleasure to see return lately. Rob Wade is doing a better job than Conrad Green imo. And we've had quite a few seasons in a row now with great casts. Tom, Erin, and the judges have to face the narrow time schedule with commercial breaks unlike Tess, Claudia and the SCD panel. You can't change that.
Finally, out of the four versions I'm following, DWTS has produced the highest amount of memorable routines.
Now let's enjoy them both and accentuate the positive. I'm sure there will be a lot. But Rob should really work on the cast announcement and the elimination formula next.
Btw: one of the nice traditions on SCD is the return of the reigning champs for one last dance, so I had the pleasure of watching Jay and Aliona do their fabulous Jive again.

I took the plunge, bro! Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock MDT I should be able to watch SCD streamed live on my iPad. I'm excited!

Tisn't gonna work, bro. BBC is way too suspicious and still won't let me in. I got into ITV, no problem, started an account and can view their content. That's good too as I am a long time Corrie viewer and we are about a week behind here in Canada so I can catch up if I desire.

I can vote on DWTS and The Voice now. I think a VPN is a much safer way to navigate the web these days.

Although I haven't watched them yet, I was able to capture both shows from the web. What I just did was to check the results. My lovely Oti finished the first round second on the leaderboard! She and Danny got 31 (8/8/7/8)- best start ever for her. Their dance was a Cha Cha to Cake By The Ocean, which of course brings back memories of Nyle and Peta.
Natalie and Greg are in sixth place with 27, which doesn't sound bad either.

I have watched The Fri. dances and the Sat. performances are on the agenda for today. I'll watch Oti first. Yay for Danny and Oti!

Pretty great dances for day one, from almost everyone. We should be in for a treat this season.

It's a rainy day here so I'm watching all the dances as they pop up on YT.

Danny and Oti just blew me away with that VW. He is a marvelous dancer and I applaud that deft choreography Oti does. Lots of people think these two will win it all.

The German producers left Oti stuck with another pedestrian last spring; maybe because her big sister is judging and they wanted to avoid any smell of favoritism. So happy she can finally show what she's capable of. Like Sharna, she touches me with her passion. Danny is an amazing student who will probably follow her everywhere. But Laura and Giovanni, Louise and Kevin joined them at the top for a reason. Claudia and AJ close behind. Certainly no coincidence all four couples did a Waltz or VW. And there were a lot more remarkable performances last night! Honestly, I don't expect any of the female celebs to leave the next three or four weeks. My pick for tonight's elimination is Ed. We'll soon find out.

Not surprised to see Melvin and Janette go. It's a talented field this season, the winners will have to be exceptional.

By the way, is it just me or does Melvin resemble Ryan Lochte?

Somewhere out there, it might have been the tube, that this will be the last season for Len on SCD.I would imagine he will fill his winter season on DWTS. IS this going to be the end of Len for us as well? Crying

Yes, Len is leaving Strictly after this current season. He likely will fade out of the DWTS picture also. He isn't a spring chicken anymore and doing both shows is pretty gruelling. I believe he has had a few health issues also and given his home is in the U.K. I expect that access to universal health care coverage available there is a part of his decision.

Brother DMD and I have been talking about Len a bit on other threads and we feel he has slipped a lot and just isn't the old Len. He has become so repetitious, sadly. Reminds me of a star hockey player trying to hang on way past his prime.

Len is 72 which isn't really old old. I agree he does appear to be more laid back and not his bubbly self. It could also be that he could be subject to a purging at the BBC of white males to make room for more diversity, if he decided to stick around.The BBC has already sacked a very popular actor of some successful shows as part of their new direction of promoting diversity. Len could also have some new ailment he may have to face and doesn't want the travel rigours to contend with.

In my initial post on this thread, you can see his retirement has already been confirmed. Tess Daley (host of SCD) announced it on the first show of the current season. Whatever Lesallee an I may have had to complain about lately, Len has been there from day one on both shows. His merits can never be over-estimated. He has tried to bow out earlier- producers just wouldn't let him. But now it's time to leave before his reputation suffers- that would really be a shame.
