SYTYCD 2016 Empty SYTYCD 2016

I just read that the show will only have kids ages 8-13. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think this will be very popular.

I know that I would like to see older dancers than that. JMO

I have been a fan of SYTYCD for a long time but I really wonder if the kiddie format will hold my attention. I will give it a shot I guess and then decide if I will view long term.

SYTYCD was one of my favorites, but during the last few years, they've done all they can to screw it up.  I quit watching after a few episodes last year because I have no interest in street dancing.  The kids idea could work only with the right format.  Right now, I'm picturing a bunch of tiny crumpers.  Are we looking at the death blow for this show?

I'll check it out, of course, but I can't say that I am at all excited for it now.  I was one who was thrilled with Jasmine and Aaron because they were more 'mature' dancers.  I am so tired of watching the 18-year-olds who have no idea how to convey emotions.  About the only good thing potentially is that the choreographers will have to stop all the sad-sack love stories and such and just choreograph good dancing because kids that young (a) won't be able to convey the emotions necessary to complete the dance and (b) if they could, it would be uber creepy.  According to the article I read, the top 10 will also dance with the all-stars, and I'm not really looking forward to that.  Seems like the all-stars will have to really tone it down not to seriously out-dance the little kids.  I don't know - this seems extremely 'gimmicky' to me, and it's hard for me to imagine too many people who aren't related to or friends of those dancers caring much about it.  As I said, I'll give it a try and attempt to keep an open mind about it, but the format has already put me off of it.

Against my better judgement I watched the 2nd & 3rd shows. Missed #1. Last nights show made me cry when I saw how crushed the kids that weren't picked felt. Don't think I can watch anymore. I know that they have probably been in other competitions & may be in others after this one, but my heart was breaking for them.

I quit watching it last year - don't like the direction they went.  I also have no interest in the street dancing which seemed to dominate the auditions last year.

I have to admit that, after saying I would of course check it out, I found I was unable to work up any enthusiasm for it, and so have not seen a single episode.  I have a friend who was watching, but she posted on Monday that she was bored with it.  Doesn't sound like it's been a big hit.

One must give Nigel credit for trying every avenue in order to gain audience for this show.  However, he's losing his hard-core dance-lovers.  Enough of the BS.  Either get back to the classics or give it up.

If they keep changing the format, it tells me that what they tried previously didn't work.  That means the street dancing didn't jolt the ratings.  Perhaps it's because they lost so much of the previous audience.  This was once one of my favorite shows.  I miss it.

Agreed, Singly.  I would love to see more variety - I felt like they were going overboard on the contemporary/jazz/lyrical/whatever else they could think of to call it but still looks like contemporary.  I wanted to see more ballroom, and a better mix of styles.

I too enjoyed the contemporary - in fact it was my favorite on this show.  Too bad they have gone in the direction they have because they wrecked for the viewers that are beyond the teeny bopper stage. IMO

I can appreciate contemporary, and some of it is really fantastic, and I do enjoy it.  But I was getting burned out on all the heavy, emotional, this-is-so-important stuff they were doing with it.  Can we please just dance every once in a while?  Can we please make a few of these things happy dances?  And seriously how many 'lost love' dances do we have to endure in one season?  Gack!  < lol >

I'm not sure every dance has to be interpretive, anymore than ballroom.  For me, it's the grace of movement, the flow.  True, they do a LOT of story-telling.  As for a happy or joyous dance, it seems they save those for the Broadway numbers.

True.  And I do usually really enjoy the Broadway numbers.  Smile

Doesn't Nigel own "Dance Moms"? I could be wrong but that's what this show has become, a bunch of kids. If your kid doesn't dance then it's not that interesting.

I don't watch this show anymore. I hated the hip hop which to me is not "real" dancing. If this show doesn't return to the original, then I don't think there is much hope for it to continue. It's so boring right now and to me, that's the worst thing it could be.

Indeed  I quit watching very early on last season when they were still early in the auditions and have not gone back.  About every audition was a form of street dancing to me and I'm just not interested in watching a bunch of hip hoppers.   No
