Episode 3 Discussion Empty Re: Episode 3 Discussion

Post by SLA44 Mon Jun 02, 2014 1:27 am

I thought JJ made a very good old man but I thought Andi's wig was to whiggish looking to be believable.  I actually liked JJ during the date but when he became a tattletale to Josh during the cocktail party I lost any like I had for him and I just wanted to tell Josh to shut his mouth and mind his own business.  What is wrong with this guys anyway?  I really don't care for the grand stander type of guy and we had three of them in on this little stupid drama bs - JJ, Josh and Nick.  They fell down to the bottom of the pit to me tonight.

I really do like Eric and tomorrow night is going to be so sad, well actually it all is so sad being he is no longer here.  I thought it was tacky to deliver those flowers right in front of him on his little 1-on-1 time.

Dylan's talk with Chris had tears in my eyes.  What an unfortunate thing for that poor guy to have to go through.  I really like both of these guys - they seem like nice down to earth guys, something out of place for this franchise.  I also felt sorry for Ron and was sorry I was not going to get to know a little more about him.  He also seemed like he would be a nice down to earth type of guy.

Well tomorrow night is more drama - yipee!

I really don't want to comment very much, as I've been "spoiled" by reading a lot on the other forum.  Yes, it is going to be sad.

Ron seemed like a really nice person but nowhere does it show him saying goodbye to Andi.  Maybe he wrote her a note since she was out on a date when he left.  Who knows?

I thought they did a great job on JJ's make-up and he really fit the old man image.  Andi certainly didn't look old enough to have been married 50 years (that would put here at approx 80 years old).  But I thought it was a great date idea.  Much better than an adventure type date.

At the beginning of the show, Andrew was at the top of my list.  However, after just the first couple of episodes, I find him to be kinda creepy.  Can't really put my finger on it, but I just get that vibe.  I also think he's arrogant.

I wonder if it was Nick's idea to send the flowers or ABC's idea.  Something to upset the apple cart.  I don't think it was the right thing to do.

My favs are Chris, Dylan and Marcus.  Would like to see more of Tasos.

Episode 3 Discussion June1_bachelorette_leadTHE BACHELORETTE
RECAP FOR JUNE 1, 2014

Hello, and welcome to The Bachelorette on ABC. Tonight kicks off a special two-night event where we see Andi Dorfmancontinue her journey to find love. When we last left off, Criag was sent home for getting drunk and baring his junk, the fireman's journey was put to an end despite the face that he was dressed like Clark Kent and we learned that y'all and stop are this season's it's ok. Confused? You won't be at the end of this episode of The Bachelorette.

This week, our suitors will be meeting Andi in Santa Barbara. Every time I hear about this city, I think of Psych, pineapples andShawn Spencer. Sadly, none of them will be making an appearance tonight. Although, the pineapple might, depending on what kind of drinks are being served. But I digress. It is time for the first date card to arrive!

Date Card One: Nick's  clue is 'let's ride off into the sunset.' HEART Andi. Seriously? Nobody says it as heart. I am just curious as to what riding into the sunset means to Andi. Usually, I picture a couple on a horse, literally riding off into the sunset, but something tells me that is not the case here.

Andi is excited to get to know Nick better. They go on a bike ride to the beach and go in the water. After more bike riding, they have a picnic, where they chat about their lives, love and their feelings. It is actually very sweet and simple. I would actually enjoy this kind of date, except, you know, I haven't been on a bike since the FIRST Bush was in office.

At dinner, Andi asks Nick why he is single. He talks about past relationships and how he was once engaged. He says he learned from his past mistakes and he knows what he wants in this relationship. He is willing to do what it takes to make it work. However, he admits he is skeptical of this situation. Or something. I kind of got bored at this point.

Andi is impressed and gives him a rose.  They seal the deal with a kiss.

At the house, the guys wonder if Nick really believes in the process. As they are talking, the next date card arrives.

Date Card 2: Brian, Marquel, Cody, Tasos, Brett, Ron, Bradley, Josh, Eric, Andrew, Patrick and Marcus are on this date. The clue: Let's start things off on the right note.

Andi meets them at a classical music training center.  Boyz II Men is waiting for them with a surprise: They will all be recording music together. Everyone is super excited.

Josh is nervous because he knows Bradley is a professional singer.

They will be divided into two groups and Andi will be singing with them.

The group will sing I'll Make Love To  You….with the band….at a concert.  Andi is especially excited, even though she admits she is a horrible singer.

The performance is hilarious, cute and I absolutely love it! I wonder how much money I can pay the guys at my demo job to do this? I'd actually give them fifty million dollars in Monopoly money to do this and let me put it on YouTube.

Okay, the little girl covering her ears made me giggle like no other. She looked so cute!

In all honesty, everyone just looks like they are having fun, it is definitely my idea of a fun date.

At the after party, Andi spends one on one time with the guys. Cody apparently pretends to have a girlfriend, but tells her it is a joke. That is basically the only noteworthy part of this party.

Josh gets the rose.

Date Card 3: JJ's clue is Love Is Timeless. HEART Andi. Maybe we will finally find out what a pantsapreuer is. He is excited to be on the date and see what the day holds for them.

Andi tells them that they are growing old together--literally. They will be transformed by makeup and special effects artists to show what they would look like fifty years in the future. They go around town, talking to people, taking pictures and just having fun with the whole thing.

At dinner, they talk about relationships, life and other fun, first date topics.

JJ gets a rose, and I still have no idea what a pantsapreneur is. Andi, you missed your golden opportunity to find out about this field! We can have a whole new major in colleges if we only knew what a pantsapreneur does!

At the house, Ron gets a call, where he finds out that a friend of his died. I just want to hug him. My heart breaks for him. My condolences to him for his loss. The guys all hug him as he says goodbye. I am surprised he doesn't say goodbye to Andi, but honestly, having been in that situation, I know his mind is on his friend and not the show or anything else.

The guys talk about the situation and share their feelings. Dylan talks about a devastating loss in his life. He plans to also share the story with Andi when they are alone.

At the cocktail party, Andi says she was notified about Ron's departure and says that her heart aches for him.

Highlights of one on one time feature Andi talking to Eric and reading a note from Nick (can we say awkward?), lots of kissing and growing tension between the guys.

Apparently, Andrew  hit on a waitress at some point when the producers took them out to dinner. Josh is not happy about the situation and feels as if he needs to protect Andi. This leads to a big fight and JJ and Josh bringing the other guys in on the situation. The guys think he was bragging about the situation, but Andrew denies that is the case.

It is now time for the Rose Ceremony. Andi is oblivious and says that she is happy and owes it all to them.

Nick, Josh and JJ all have roses already.  Marcus, Brian, Marquel, Tasos, Cody, Patrick, Chris, Eric, Dylan and Andrew all get roses. Bradley and Brett are sent home

Brett wishes he would have opened up a bit more because maybe he would have gotten a rose.

Bradley says he put himself out there, but it wasn't good enough. He loves to be loved and loves true love. He leaves in tears.

Join us for more of The Bachelorette tomorrow night at 8pm, only on ABC.

Episode 3 Discussion Empty Re: Episode 3 Discussion

Post by Guest Tue Jun 03, 2014 3:22 pm

I thought the conclusion of last night's episode was terrible.  Don't get what Eric thought was wrong; he failed to understand that Andi is trying to get to know all the guys....or so it says in the script.  The discussion between Chris H and Andi was kind of wishy-washy.  I wonder when it was filmed.

I thought that final scene between Eric and Andi was very awkward to watch, especially knowing that Eric was no longer alive.  I think Eric came off as being very antagonistic and Andi got very defensive.  Just very uncomfortable.  Also did not like the way they did a tribute to Eric.  It felt like Andi was trying to redeem herself for the audience.  It would have been nice if they had put a little video together of Eric's time on the show and maybe just a few words from Andi, but not this whole dialogue from CH and her.  I also missed seeing the rose ceremony.  That should not have been cut.  It was weird hearing CH just tell us and oh, by the way there was a rose ceremony and Tasos was sent home.  Even if he was cut, not fair to Tasos.

I agree with the bolded, it was like Tasos didn't even matter at all.  I can't imagine what he must have thought if he was watching!  The ending of the show was handled terrible IMO and I agree both CH and Andi were trying to redeem herself for the audience.

I didn't find Eric antagonistic - I understood what he was trying to say to Andi but she either didn't or wasn't listening.  I found Eric to be a very nice and laid back kind of man.  I didn't feel he was trying to insult Andi but just trying to tell her that he wanted to get to know the real her that he had seen on their 1-on-1 date when the cameras were not in their faces.  I got what he was saying but I guess it was understood differently by others.

I think we all may have taken away something different from the scene between Eric and Andi.  I found it really difficult to watch.  At that point, I also think Eric was ready to get off the show.  Then again, was this actually how this all went down or was some of it manipulated??  Guess, we will never know such things.

I agree rein that everybody probably took something different from the scene and that doesn't mean anybody was right or wrong in what they got out of it.  You are right that we will never know how it actually went down.  I just wish more respect would have been shown to Eric's memory and his family at the end of that episode.

Yep...it would have been so much nicer if they would have had more of a tribute to his being on the show rather than sitting there with CH and Andi rehashing that last conversation between them.  And it pisses me off that I believe ABC felt they had to redeem Andi's character and did it through a time that should have been dedicated to Eric.  She could have summed it up in a couple of sentences and move on to a video of Eric.     And Tasos really got the short end of the stick.

It sure made what they said at the very beginning of the show a joke ~ this season is not dedicated to Eric it is and always has been all about Andi.   Tasos did not deserve that - he had done absolutely nothing wrong in the time he was on the show  and to be dissed like he was is just so wrong on behalf of CH and the TPTB.

Post by USN Wed Jun 04, 2014 6:27 pm

Alrighty, I guess I twill throw out my 2 cent on the subject.  First of all, I didn't really find the scene between Eric and Andy awkward at all.  I did find it rather sad that this was the final conversation that the two of them had together, and it is sad that they/Andi won't be able to iron things out, or have closure at the MTA.

Secondly, I thought Eric was rather condescending in toward Andi.  Andi did get defensive, and I can understand that.  If it was me, I probably would have let him finish, thanked him for his input, told him there's the door, don't let it hit you on the way out, and then politely excused myself.

Thirdly, I didn't have problem with the way they handled the final segment, and I definitely didn't think it was a redemption thing.  In my opinion, there was nothing that anyone did that needed redeeming.  As far as a dedication goes, unfortunately, people die all the time during the production and taping of shows.  TPTB don't stop taping, and throw in a little montage of the persons time on the show.  They usually just put a little "In Memory of" at the end of the credits.  So I think they went above and beyond with what they did.  It could be that they may have something, like a montage, planned during the MTA.

Finally, Tasos was probably relieved that they didn't show him being the only one not to receive a rose, or a humiliating exit interview.  So, I would say that it worked out well for him.

Good posting USN ~ I always like hearing other people's views even when they are different from my own.  It would be a boring world if everyone thought the same IMO.  I would have to try to watch it again to see if Eric was condescending or not and I really do not want to do that and besides ABC has made it next to impossible to do that if you don't have cable.  So I will just let it go as we saw it differently for now.

Thanks for your input USN....I find it interesting that we can all watch the same thing and come away with different impressions.  I know that as I watched it, I had a very uncomfortable feeling; but I have to ask myself if I had that feeling just because I knew that Eric had died?

Thanks SLA and you're welcome. Rein.  It is interesting that we can watch the same thing, and come away with differing perspectives.  That's what makes us unique.  How boring would it be if we thought, and felt the same way?  It's always nice to hear what other people think.

Post by singlyme Sun Jun 08, 2014 8:09 am

I posted on the Ep4 thread, but will repeat here. (kinda, sorta)

Andi first accused Eric of holding back.  After he had time to think about it, he said SHE was the one who held back.  It's probably difficult to see a warm, fun personality at the beach only to find yourself virtually ignored and chopped liver when the other guys are around.  He wanted to know where he stood - and her response gave him his answer:  Nowhere.  She had moved on from their pleasant date to more aggressive suitors.

I won't pretend to like Andi.  I'm indifferent as to whether or not she finds someone - but I'll predict it's the guy who puts her on that pedestal she craves.
