Lara had planned to go clubbing with Chris and Paul.
Then she became immersed in the hurricane coverage with the rest of her
family. The guys arrived to pick her up and she greeted them at the door
with apologies.

"I just don't feel like going out tonight guys.
My roommate at IU is from Galveston. I spent Spring Break there with her
last year. Their place was so beautiful." Lara's eyes welled
with tears.

Chris looked irritated. "I was looking forward to
going out tonight. I wish you would have called me. Why don't we go
anyway? It's not like we can do anything to help anybody tonight."

"No Chris. Not tonight. I want to see what
is happening there. Why don't you and Paul come in and watch with
me?"

Paul agreed but Chris turned down the offer. "I
don't think so Lara. Watching things like that just is not something I
do. If I can't fix it, why worry about it? I will head back to the
hotel." He gave her a quick kiss and left. He hated to think
that Paul was staying. but with the whole family there, and all grilled to the
TV, Paul wouldn't get much time for romance.

Lara was stunned by Chris' indifference to both the
tragedy and to her when she was upset. Paul put his arm around her and
said, "Don't worry about it. I think Chris just gets freaked out
watching things like that and didn't want to admit that to you. Have you
heard from your roomate about her family?"

"Yes, I called her earlier. They evacuated this
morning and they are safe, but they are so worried about their home. I
just feel awful for them, and everyone else there."

She and Paul found a spot in the crowded room with her
family. Paul kept his arm around her and snuggled her close.
Occasionally he would rub her neck and shoulders for awhile. It felt so
relaxing and soothing. She appreciated that Paul had avoided the
temptation to really criticize Chris when he left them. That said a lot
about Paul. Finally Lara, who was still tired from yesterday, found
herself drifting off to sleep in the warm cocoon of Paul's arms.

Meanwhile, down at It Takes Two To Tango, Martha arrived
with Pedro and Martina as chaperones. Pedro wasn’t about to let his
little sister go clubbing with a “love em and leave em” Cassanova. He
wanted to see what this Fernando fellow was like “up close and
personal."

Poor Martina who was now about 9 and a half months
pregnant was practicing her Lamaze breathing while being moved around the dance
floor by Pedro. She and Pedro had always loved dancing together.
Martha was enjoying her continuation of her date from the night before.
Fernando was whispering in her ear,”When we get your brother’s approval, I am
going to take you to the most romantic place I know, mia cara.” Martha
felt like a princess in Fernando’s arms. It made her feel secure and
beautiful. Even though they were only in a dance hall, she felt like
Cinderella.

Suddenly, while doing a knee bend in the intricate tango that
was a staple of their repertoire, Martina felt her water break. “Oh,
no!” she muttered to Pedro. Pedro, having been through this three
times already, knew exactly what had happened. “Well, at least your
mother is already babysitting, sweetheart! I’ll get you to the hospital
before you have a contraction. I love you!” “I love you, too,
Pedro, or else I wouldn’t be here tonight, but it will make a good story for
our little bambino here.” Martina replied, rubbing her tummy. Pedro
signaled to Martha. The telltale puddle on the floor told her at a glance
what was going on. Pedro and Martina jumped in the front seat
of their Ford Taurus and Fernando and Martha jumped in the back.
“Welcome to our family!” called Martina over her shoulder to
Fernando. “There’s never a dull moment!”

The next week, Bonnie and Fred spent every day
together. By Thursday, they knew for sure that they wanted to spend every
day of the rest of their lives together. They planned to make the
announcement next Monday night. ABC would go ballistic with
happiness about another Wedding, but Fred and Bonnie, being mature and
practical, had decided on a six month engagement. They didn’t want a
quickie wedding. They wanted to enjoy planning their ceremony together
and making it special. They also wanted to surprise everyone with one of
those Bride and Groom Surprise Rock Dance Routines for the guests. No one
would expect Bonnie and Fred to go for that, so they were keeping it a secret
and thinking about calling Fernando to choreograph something special for
them. They had already planned that Jeremy would be the Best Man -
for all he had done to get them back together after he had separated
them. Since it had been one of those “absence makes the heart grow
fonder” situations, Jeremy actually may have aided their romance by separating
them! Jane, of course, being closest to Bonnie, would be the Maid of
Honor.

Jenny and Penny were busy making lists of things to purchase
to help in the relief efforts underway in the gulf region. With the help of
Jason and Dakota they were getting monetary donations from the business
communities across the US, as well as the entertainment industry. Michael
Talbott, Don Johnson, The Donald, and Ivana were making phone calls to everyone
they could think of to pitch in. Mr. and Mrs. B. used the castle as Relief
Central in the Miami area, and Jenny and Penny were making purchases and
arranging transportation of these items to the area when it was safe to go
there. Phone cards, gas cards, bottled water, blankets, clothing, personal
hygiene items, and anything else they could think of were being readied to load
and be transported when given the go ahead. Dr. Sanjay Gupta was even handling
the acquisition of numerous medicines and supplies for those in need. This was
the day that Jenny/Penny grew up and found their calling. Helping others in
need had now become their focus, and both were thrilled that their beaus seemed
to be on that same page. Jenny was shocked when her mother told her that
Angelina Jolie was on the phone and wished to speak to her. Since she and Brad
had helped after Katrina had devastated New Orleans and many other gulf states,
they wanted to give the girls the proper info and channels to go through to
speed up the process for those suffering after Ike. The Red Cross became the
girls' new best friend and they had a hard time thinking of anything else for
the next few days. Of course the girls had much to learn about their new raison
d' etre, but it was a great start to this ongoing process we think of as life.

After most of the relief items had been sent there were
still phone calls to be made and many other things left to do, but Jenny and
Penny realized that they still had to focus on the other issues at hand. After
the whirlwind of activity this week they knew they had to slow down and smell
the roses. Jason told Jenny he had the perfect place for a getaway for the
foursome. He rented a houseboat on Lake Union for them, and then he pulled her
close. I think it's about time-that you met MY raison d' etre," he
whispered, "my little guy Ty!" Jenny was so excited-she knew Jason
would not introduce her to Ty if he didn't feel she could fit into his life
with his son. She also fell in love with Ty on the last season of the show. Ty
was a beautiful little soul and she was excited to meet him. She also realized
that it would have to be done in the most subtle of ways, as she did not want
to disrupt their lives in the event that it didn't work out for the two of
them. "Go slow," she told him-"go slow."

So the four packed their bags, and headed off on another new
adventure. With Mr. and Mrs. B. left holding down the fort-er-castle, Jane
dropped everyone off at the airport. Jenny and Penny just smiled when they saw
their tickets-after all-people fall in love in Seattle-or so they heard!
Cuddling with their beaus on the plane, which was not too difficult given the
proximity and puny sizes of the seats, Jenny and Penny settled in for a long
trip ahead. They had no idea that adventure was to be their middle name yet
again...

Dear Readers,

Just a note that our
wonderful fellow writer Maggie Angel who
lived in the Houston area was effected by the storm mentioned above that was
going on in actuality while we wrote this story. Because of the storm, she lost her ability to
use a computer and had to stop writing with us.
We still miss you, Maggie Angel!

Jane and Jeremy had the whole week to themselves, since
Peter had gone to California on business. On Tuesday evening, when he
joined the Bonnet family to watch vigil over the awful hurricane hitting his
home state, he told Jane, “It’s hard to see this happening to the place I hold
so dear. Although my new home is in Miami, I will always be a
Texan at heart. I also still own a lot of property in Texas and will need
to be there often on business. Jane, when this storm is gone and it’s
safe, I want to take you to my Ranch outside of Dallas. Just like you got
to see Peter and meet his family and see the Firestone Vineyards, I want you to
see the Darsley Ranch. Does that sound OK to you?” “Jeremy, I think
that’s a great idea. I’d love to see where you were raised.”

Louise and Ron had one more week to honeymoon. They
had flown to Bermuda for five days, so they could enjoy the experience of a true
get-away time by themselves. When they
returned, Louise would be due back at KMPG and Ron, who had resigned
permanently from the Hair Dressing industry, had a try-out for a local semi-pro
Polo Club team. Need less to say, Ron felt he had won the lottery in more
ways than one. He was finding Louise completely compatible and got a kick
out of some of her naïve ideas. It didn’t mean Louise wasn’t smart,
because she certainly knew how to manage her finances and had a brilliant
career going as a CPA. It just meant she was inexperienced in certain ways
he found entertaining. Surprisingly, their marriage was off to a very
good start and both of them were unaware of the healing that their character
flaws were undergoing due to the medicines of contentment, acceptance, and
happiness. AWWWW! Louise was even finding that she didn’t feel
quite as close to her old best friend, Stacy, who seemed so calculating and
selfish all of a sudden. But now, Louise was thinking that maybe what
Stacy needed was a Bachelor of her own. When she mentioned it to Ron, he
had a great idea. “You know Robert, my friend who’s a chef down at Miami
Heat? Well, he’d probably love to meet Stacy.”

By Wednesday, the storm had run i's course. Jane and
Jeremy flew to Dallas with only a bump of turbulence. They were met at
the airport, by Roger Strawback, a boyhood friend of Jeremy's who now managed
Darsley Ranch. Roger greeted Jane with a hearty handshake saying,
"Well, I'm happy to see the great Lord Darsley has finally met a lady
worthy of his attention! And a mighty pretty one, too!" Jane
blushed, but liked Roger immediately, "Hi, Roger! I'd really like to
know how Jeremy got that nickname. I've heard Ron call him that, too!"
"Ron! What's that no good bum up to now?" asked Roger.
"Well," replied Jeremy with an amused look, "He just became
Jane's Brother-in-Law!" "Well, I'll be a Rodeo Clown on
Christmas Morning!" exclaimed Roger.
(Let's just say that's a Texas expression . . . . well, we actually just made
it up!)

Jason just smiled to himself as he watched Jenny sleeping on
the plane. She looked so sweet and innocent he didn't want any harm to ever
come to her. He didn't want to disturb her but he knew that the plane would be
landing soon. He planted a kiss on her cheek and she smiled in her sleep. He
touched her shoulder and she began to stretch, looking up appealingly at him.
Jason couldn't help himself-he gave her a suden hug. He had never experienced
that AWWWW moment with a woman until he met Jenny. Something about her trusting
nature and adorable mannerisms kind of made his heart melt. When Jenny smiled
so did her eyes, and for Jason that was the deal maker. Jenny always felt
completely comfortable in Jason's arms. She couldn't help but think that they
had met before because normally that strong of a spark that she felt with him
would have scared her off. But Jason seemed to have the ability to draw her
right in and hold her there in the moment.

Penny and Dakota were already chatting as the plane taxied and came to a stop.
They were both ready to get this party started even if it was a slow moving
party. They were laughing and teasing each other as if they had been together
for some time. That's the quirkiness of relationships-they unfold in their own
time and in their own place. Jason and Dakota found their limo that ABC had
waiting and the group of four left the airport. The limo dropped Jenny/Penny
and Dakota off at the hotel where they would stay until later that evening.
Jason had a very hard time saying good by to Jenny, but was so happy to be
seeing Ty soon that he jumped back in the limo to go to his parent's house
where Ty and his family were waiting for him. The limo pulled up and Jason
hopped out-he was very good at hopping, after all those leap frog games that he
played with Ty. Jason could see Ty running to him and the tears of joy danced
down his cheeks as he hugged his little one with great love...

Hurricane Ike had bypassed Darsley Ranch much to Jeremy’s
relief. From Dallas, it took nearly two hours traveling west to get to
the sprawling home where Jeremy had grown up. They arrived around four in
the afternoon Dallas time. Jeremy’s home was a stately Southern Mansion
with a huge white front porch that wrapped around the sides. When the car
pulled up, a stately woman came out of the house. She looked fondly at
Jeremy. Jeremy took the steps two at a time and hugged the woman.
“Ellen, you’re a sight for sore eyes. “Jeremy Darsley, I think you get
handsomer every time I see you. It’s about time you came home.”
Jane was introduced to Ellen who had run the household since Jeremy was a baby.
Jeremy opened the front door and invited everyone in out of the hot Texas sun.

At the hospital, things went quickly. Martina had five
minute contractions immediately and, when the nurse checked, the baby was ready
to come into the world. The doctor was called and in less than a half an
hour of arriving at the hospital, Pedro and Martina had a little boy!
They named him Pedro, Jr., but already planned to call him Chip because he was
a chip off the old block, you know. Pedro was ecstatic to have a
son. He loved his three daughters and they were all Daddy’s girls, but
now to have a son was like the proverbial icing on the cake! At the ripe
old age of 5 minutes, Chip had no idea that Dad was already dreaming of the
days they’d spend on the Baseball field. Pedro had been a talented Short
Stop as a teenager and, as many young boys, had been sure he would play
professional ball when he grew up. It hadn’t worked out for him, but with
Chip all things were possible and the American Dream was reignited in Pedro’s
heart.

Jenny and Penny spent the first few minutes in their hotel
room freshening up after the long flight. The trio decided to have lunch at a
nearby restaurant, and chatted about their plans for the next few days. Dakota
had spent some time in the Seattle area with his parents when filming over the
years and so he had some things planned for the foursome to do. They decided to
have a light lunch because they remembered how much Jason's family went out of
their way last season to make their guests feel at home. The three weren't sure
exactly what they would be eating but they knew Jason's mom was a great cook,
and that Jason was no slouch in the kitchen either. They were all looking
forward to dinner there later. They just needed to remember to wear comfortable
clothing and shoes so they could be prepared for any games afterward;)Wink

Dakota told them that he was taking the girls on a three hour tour of Seattle
by bus. The tour involved about a 30 mile ride through several districts of
Seattle. Something about that phrase gave Jenny the chills and she didn't know
why. The only thing she could think of was The Gilligan's Island Three Hour
Tour, and she didn't know why that would make her feel so odd. So they started
out at Pioneer Square. It is a 20 block area rich in the arts. It features at
least 30 art galleries, Victorian architecture, restaurants, nightclubs, and
over 200 shops. Both Jenny and Penny decided that they wanted to come back with
Jason later in the week.

The next stop on the tour was downtown Seattle-they were
shown the different main streets of China Town, the financial district and
ended up at the Science Center. Everyone thought that would be a great place to
bring Ty. Then it was on to the Space Needle, and Jenny could not shake the
feeling that she had been there before. She tried to convince herself that it
was because she had seen it last season, but her body was not buying what her
brain was telling her! The trio
definitely decided they wanted to have dinner there one night on the weekend.

The last stop on the tour was the Pike Place Markets. Now
something about that name was so familiar-Jenny was beginning to think that she
needed to make a trip to see a Regression Therapy Specialist as this deja vu
day was freak-ing her out. She saw a bakery that looked familiar, a bee store
that she swore she had shopped at before, but when they got to the produce
store, even Penny chimed in, "I know I've been here before!" Both
girls closed their eyes and walked down the hall and made their way to the next
place. "The fish market! We've
never met a fish market that we didn't like," they said at the same
time-it's a twin thing-duh! Now Jenny and Penny knew that they had a mystery on
their hands here, and this intrigued them no end! With that said they got back
on the bus and were so excited that there would be more to do in Seattle than
sight see...

Jeremy’s home was “Perfect.” The oak floors throughout
the house shone like glass. Every shelf, table, and banister was polished
to a high luster. Not a thing was out of place. The artwork was of
a high caliber and included original oil paintings by famous artists as well as
family portraits and various sculptures. The entry hall separated a large
living room on the left and an equally large formal dining room on the
right. The first floor also held a study, a den decorated with John Wayne
memorabilia which Jeremy’s father had collected, a library filled with a huge
assortment of books running on shelves from floor to ceiling, a comfortable
family room, and a huge kitchen manned with all the latest appliances.

Ellen led Jane to an impressive room on the second floor so
she could freshen up before dinner. Jane appreciated the fine mahogany bedroom set. The room
was decorated with floral curtains and a matching bedspread in a lovely Laura
Ashley pattern. There was a vanity table set in the bay area created by
two windows. An attached bathroom had a charming old-fashioned tub
combined with an updated décor. It was an inviting room that made Jane
feel right at home. Jane thanked Ellen as she left the room and once the
door closed, she lay down on the comfortable bed to rest a minute before
getting ready for dinner.

It seemed so strange
to be here in Jeremy’s home. He was still such a mystery to her.
They had had pleasant conversation during their trip to Dallas and with Roger
in the car on the drive to the Ranch. Jeremy had told her more
about his week in Scotland, but didn’t let on about just how much he had done
to assist in getting Ron to marry Louise, so Jane still didn’t know what a magnificent
favor he had done her family. She definitely was attracted to his
handsome face, perfect physique, and sophisticated manner and could not find a
fault with his recent behavior towards her family, but she still was sorting
out all of her impressions about Jeremy and the truth about Ron. While
lying on the bed, she reached for her cell phone and called an old College
friend who lived in the Houston area. “Maggie? It’s me,
Jane. Are you all right?”

When Twilley and Kara were done being all kissey-face,
Twilley invited her over to his condo to meet his other cat, Boris, his dog
Enchilada, and his goldfish Cleo, and of course darling little Ned.
They sat and talked for hours and hours. Finally, Twilley invited Kara to join
him for dinner at his father's house. Now, Kara knew who Joe was-several times
in the last week she had walked into the kitchen to find him in there with an
apron on, helping Mary with her baking. As they entered Joe's house, they were
amazed to discover that....

"Mary, darling, I have a surprise for you!" Joe whispered in her ear
one beautiful evening, and then gave a little puff. "Please
don't--Stop!" giggled the lovely Irish maid. He handed her a little box.
Mary, trembling a little, tore off the wrapping paper to discover- a key! She
looked at him questioningly. Joe just smiled, took her by the arm, and led her
outdoors into the velvet night, past the chicken yard, and into the backyard of
the estate next-door. "Try the key!" he said, with a grin. "It
belongs to you now, Darling!" And with that he knelt down on the wet
grass, took her beautiful hands in his, and said "Marry me!"
"Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!!!" she whispered.

Twilley and Kara, arm and arm and madly in love, arrived at
Joe's for dinner, and were greeted at the door with the happy news of Joe and
Mary's engagement. Kara was so happy for her, and even happier to learn that
she would be living right next door to them. Suddenly, the mood in the room
grew somber. For on the radio a hurricane was forecast to arrive soon. They all
knew what they must do next- gather every animal-loving friend to set up
a shelter for animals that would be homeless from the storm!!

After the bus tour, the threesome took a little snooze back
at the hotel. A thirty minute power nap was just the ticket to
"recoup" the group. After their showers all felt refreshed and ready
to take the limo to dinner at Jason's house. Jenny was so excited to see Jason
and meet Ty but she was also nervous to meet Jason's family. She already knew
that Jason had a wonderful family thanks to ABC's bird's eye view on the home
town dates last year. But she would be meeting them face to face, and she
didn't want to disappoint Jason or look bad in front of his family. Penny and
Dakota were enjoying a little snuggle time in the back of the limo. They knew
they had to be on their best behavior with Ty and the rest of Jason's family at
dinner and so they took advantage of the long limo ride. Jenny scarcely paid
attention-her mind was elsewhere.

At last they arrived at Jason's house, and he met them
outside. Jenny flew out of the limo so fast the driver almost got knocked over
by the opening door. Jenny could see that Jason was excited also as he could
scarcely stand still. Jason opted to come out by himself so he could have a
minute alone with Jenny before the big introduction. As they walked into the
house Ty ran up and introduced himself-Jenny was so touched and impressed with
his confidence, she just gave him a big hug! Then the whole family was
introduced to Jenny, and there didn't seem to be any awkwardness whatsoever.
Dakota and Penny were introduced as well, and Ty was endearingly intrigued by
the twins-he couldn't get over the fact that they were identical in seemingly
every way, to the eye at least. He especially loved the girls' names because
"Jenny" and "Penny" sounded so much like the new story his
pre- school class was reading, about Chicken Little and Henny Penny! Boy did
that have a familiar ring to it thought Jenny.

Jenny asked Jason to help her carry in a few things from the
limo that she brought for his family. Jason handed his mom and dad a huge gi-ft
basket filled with Florida wines and goodies. Jenny explained that Florida had
some wonderful wineries, and she chose this particular basket from the Keel and
Curley Winery and Vineyards in Plant City FL. She chose several wines: their
Blueberry Wine semi-dry (made from blueberries and no grapes), Black
Raspberry,Mango, Wild Berry Pinot Noir, and Strawberry Riesling. Jason joked
that this should be enough for the night and everyone laughed. But they did
open a bottle and sampled it before dinner. As the conversation bubbled all around
the room, Jenny sat next to Ty and gave him a present as well. He seemed a
little confused as to what it was until Jenny explained. "Ty this is a
pink flamingo, and it is a bird that lives near the beaches of the state where
I live. They're kind of like ducks, but have longer legs an are, of course,
pink." Ty had never seen a bird like that before and he just couldn't put
it down. Then Jenny gave Ty a storybook called 'Filbert the Feathery
Flamingo," and promised to read it to him at bedtime. Jason smiled because
he could see how comfortable Ty was around Jenny, and was accepting her as a
friend-baby steps, after all, baby steps he thought.

Dinner was ready and served family style-BBQ was the theme
with a few latin dishes served for a spicy accent! Everyone was talking and
laughing and just getting to know each other. Jenny was so glad Penny was with
her and that this was not a hometown date! The pressure to impress lessened
dramatically as the evening progressed. Homemade ice-cream with fresh homegrown
berries for dessert, and a splash of the Strawberry Riesling to
cleanse the palate concluded the dinner.

Jenny felt as if she had known Jason's family forever-just a
feeling she had. But she did ask Ty if she could play leap frog with him and
the rest of the crew. He actually hesitated at first since he didn't play it
that much anymore, but when Jenny told him that she saw how good he was at it
last year, and that ever since she had wanted to play that with him he
said,"Ok," in that cute little voice of his. So everyone went out to
the backyard to play, and it was hysterical actually because that game is not
exactly flattering to film. The poor camera crew had a very difficult time
filming everyone jumping and falling, and BEhinds everywhere. It got funnier
and funnier, that is until Penny and Jenny got tangled up and fell down the
small hill on the property heading for a tree...

After dinner, Jeremy took Jane’s hand and led her into the
family room. She had a feeling in the pit of her stomach that this was
going to be a significant conversation in their relationship. Once he had
the lights turned down low, Jeremy joined Jane on the comfortable microfiber
couch, “So, what do you think of Darsley Ranch, so far?” He asked,
looking intently into Jane’s eyes. “I like it. This house is
beautiful, Jeremy. It’s absolutely perfect!” “Not, too perfect, I
hope. I’ve had a few girls tell me that.” “No, nothing can ever be
too perfect as far as I’m concerned.” Jane assured Jeremy, then
added, “I’m looking forward to seejng more of the actual Ranch tomorrow. Will
we be going out in your jeep or riding horses? I just want to know, so I
can dress right tomorrow. I mean, I realize, I’ll be wearing jeans either
way, but I’ve got a special pair that works real well for riding.” Jeremy
took that information into consideration and asked, “Do you feel like riding or
would you like to be chauffeured around?” Jane thought about it a minute
and then said with a smile, “Riding would actually be nice. I haven’t
done that for a while.” “Great! Riding it is!”

After a pause, Jeremy said, “Jane, I think you need to know
something. It’s important.” Jane looked at Jeremy, unsure what he
would say. “I want you to know how much I like you. I think about
you all the time. It killed me to be in Scotland last week and know you
were spending all that time with Peter and I’m so glad to have you here, by
ourselves, right now.” Jeremy leaned closer and took Jane in his
arms. “I want you to know how I feel. I care, Jane. I really
care about you. For me, that’s a big thing. Since my father died,
I’ve been so focused on getting my Law degree and passing the Board and
mourning for my father who was truly my best friend, that I’ve just been closed
off. I haven’t had the time or the heart to even think about a girl seriously.
But, I want you to know, the night I first saw you at Trump’s ball, my heart
actually stood still when I met you and looked into those beautiful brown eyes
of yours.”

Jeremy stopped and tried to assess how Jane was taking his
confession. Jane couldn’t believe what she was hearing, Jeremy liked her . . . he had missed her in
Scotland . . . he cared about her . . .
she was stunned! Jane
found herself speechless, probably for the first time in her life. Jeremy
continued, “Jane, I’m actually falling in love with you.” “Y-y-you are?”
Jane stuttered, also probably for the first time in her life, which could be
taken as a sign. “Um-hum!” said Jeremy, nodding assuredly, before pulling
Jane closer and kissing her gently and slowly to “PERFECTION!” (Of course!)

When Jane recovered from the series of kisses that sent
those lovely littles tingles running along nerves she never knew she had, it
was her turn to speak, “Jeremy?” “Y . . .e . . .s,” said the very relaxed
and happy fellow, playfully. “Now, I need to tell you a few things.
At first, I despised you!” Jeremy just chuckled. “You were so
"Lord Darsley" and above it all, talking about the "riffraff"
and all, that I had you pegged as a total snob and a pompous donkey’s
tail.” Now Jeremy laughed. “Then, you obviously were looking down
your nose at my family, who I dearly love, and were so mean to my sweet
sister Bonnie, that I began to hate you. Then you went off to Scotland to
protect Louise from Ron and I didn’t know what to think, but I liked that kiss
you gave me. Then you brought them back with no real harm done, and a
ring on Louise’s finger, and Fred for Bonnie, and you still wanted to get to
know me and it all began to seem funny and crazy and confusing. Now we’re
here in your home and I still don’t understand about you and Ron and maybe I
never will, but I find that I don’t despise you by any means and I know that
after that “rocky start of ours,” you have done great kindnesses for my family
and I want you to know that I appreciate those kindnesses, but you really don’t
have to be nice to me anymore. You’ve done enough.” “Jane?”
“Yes?” “Shut up! I love you!” “Oh!" Jane smiled as
she felt a new understanding dawning, "Well, that’s a horse of a
different color then, isn’t it?” It was Jeremy's turn to smile
and he hugged Jane tightly to him, before resuming that “perfect”
kissing routine again.

The next morning, Jane slept in late, catching up on some
much needed rest. When she came down, dressed for their ride,
Jeremy was out on the ranch. Ellen nursed a cup of coffee, keeping Jane
company while she had breakfast. When Jeremy came in to get Jane, Ellen
presented them with a picnic basket small enough to be tethered to Jeremy’s
horse and a red plaid blanket for Jane to trundle with her. After thanking
Ellen and heading down the hall for the front door, their venture was delayed
by a phone call. Jeremy took it in the Library. It was from a good
friend who was seeking donations for the many unfortunate Texas citizens who
had so recently been literally knocked off their feet by Hurricane Ike.

While Jeremy spoke to his friend, Jane browsed around the
Library, thinking how glad she had been to learn that her friend Maggie and
Maggie's family in the Houston area was just fine after the
storm. She was amused to discover that Jeremy had a few of those
Dummies books himself, including How To
Sing Like Frank Sinatra For Dummies, How Not To Be So Perfect For Dummies, and
How To Be The Best Bachelor Ever For Dummies
. The titles earned
a real laugh from Jane. Before Jeremy hung, up the phone Jane heard him
discreetly make a huge donation to the recovery effort. She began to
think you just have to love this guy!

No sooner had Jeremy hung up the phone than it rang
again. It was Fred about something at Smother’s and Jeremy had to take the
call. Jane indicated she was going out and left him to discuss his
business in private. She carried the picnic blanket out to the pleasant
front porch and settled onto a comfortable glider swing. It was a
beautiful day that would make for a nice for a ride. She sat and
rocked back and forth, looking over what she could see. The house sat
facing a southerly direction. The road that led into the ranch approached
from the east and a large barn was to the west with a series of outbuildings
flocked around it. One was a stable. As Jane watched, Roger came
from the stable area leading two horses. Jane met him as he approached
and told him why they were delaying their ride. Roger introduced her to
Sugar, the smaller brown horse with gentle brown eyes. Sugar would be
Jane’s horse. The other horse, of course, was a large black stallion
named Dancer who looked like he’d be harder to control.

When they reached the house, Ron laced the reigns around the
railing and joined Jane on the porch. It was a great opportunity to ask
the question she had most on her mind. “Roger, can you tell me about
Jeremy and Ron. Now that Ron's a part of my family, I’d really like
to understand what has happened between them.” Roger made a quick
decision to be frank, “Jane, I have to be honest with you, so I hope you won’t
think I’m “talking out of school” or anything. It’s a long story, but
I’ll try to summarize things down for you. Jeremy’s Mom died when he was
only three, so he grew up very close to his father and with Ellen, who is his
Aunt, his father’s sister, as a mother figure. Jeremy was always a smart
kid and a good kid. My Dad was ranch hand here, so I grew up with Jeremy
and Ron. Ron’s father had been the Ranch Foreman when we were
young. We all were close as kids. In a way, with none of us having
other siblings and all of us being boys, we were like brothers. Boy did
we have a great childhood! Ron always had a lot of charm and smarts, too,
but he was lazy and he was jealous of Jeremy. Ron always wished he had
been “Lord Darsley” and was the one that came up with that nickname to tease
Jeremy, but Jeremy really wasn’t like that at all. When Ron was around
10, his Dad died after an accident and Charles Darsley, Jeremy’s Dad, then kept
his promise to raise Ron like a son. Ron moved into the big house and had
all the privileges of Jeremy, but it was never enough. He started
showing a mean streak. When we were teens, he liked to cruise around in
his car, drinking and gambling and raising H*ll. Jeremy and I just
weren’t into those things, so we distanced ourselves from Ron. That just
made Ron more resentful.“

Jason and Dakota looked up at about the same time and caught
sight of the twins rolling downhill. Now that would be funny thought Dakota if
it weren't so...Nah, it was funny! Jason ran down to help Jenny and Penny to
their feet, but the girls weren't moving. Now the guys couldn't figure that out
because the missed the tree and big boulder nearby, why were they just laying
there? Penny looked at Jenny and asked if she was still breathing.
"Yes," was Jen's brief reply. "Any broken bones Pen?" asked
Jenny. "Nope," Penny deadpanned. As they both sat up Jason asked the
girls if they were seeing any odd colors or characters like flamingos or
Amarosa, or anything of that nature. Both girls just made faces and got up on
their own power. Dakota just had to ask-why the weird questions? Jason then
explained that these girls had unusual dreams on a "semi" regular
basis. They had them more often if there are minor head injuries involved.
Dakota wasn't sure if Jason was kidding or not, and Jason said he would fill
Dakota in on the stories later. "One thing you can count on with the
Bonnet twins, Dakota-life with them is never dull! HAHAHA," he laughed.
Jenny chased Jason after hearing that one, and then everyone joined in on a
short game of "tag."

After the outdoor games were over, Ty came in to take his
bath and get ready for bed. The rest of the adults mingled around in the family
room, and enjoyed an after dinner drink. Jason's family started telling the
visitors stories about Ty and Jason, and so many were hilarious that Jenny felt
her heart melting even more-she wished she could have seen Jason when he was
little! Apparently Ty was so much like Jason when he was a tyke. Jason's mom
confided that Jason also loved birds of any sort, but especially water birds,
what with living so close to the water. She said that he also liked to name
them. Jenny just roared when she heard that one. Jason walked in at that very
moment and knew in an instant that his mom was sharing "baby" stories
again. Jenny refused to tattle on his mother but he could tell by her eyes that
it must have been a lulu. And at that moment Jason's mother knew that Jenny was
very special to Jason-she could read it in their eyes-their eyes just sparkled!
She could tell they were on the verge of seeing their futures written in them,
and that warmed her heart.

In no time at all it was time for Ty to go to bed-he was
allowed to stay up beyond his normal bedtime tonight because they had guests.
Ty made the rounds of giving his family good night kisses, but insisted that
Jason, Jenny, Dakota, and Penny tuck him in. As the foursome and Ty entered the
room Ty got out his Chicken Little storybook. He decided that he wanted Jenny
and Penny to read that book to him instead of the flamingo story. Jason asked
if jenny would read that one on another night, and she agreed.

As Jenny began reading the story Jason figured out why Ty
wanted them all in the room-each of them got to play a part in the story. Jenny
would be Chicken Little; Penny would be... Henny Penny, of course. Dakota would
be Turkey Lurky-Ty just giggled when he heard Dakota do Turkey Lurky's voice-he
was an actor after all. And of course Jason played Foxy Loxy-he had that part
down because Ty loved him being sneaky. And so the four entertained Ty with the
whole "sky is falling" routine, and the hungry fox. But Turkey Lurky
was by far Ty's favorite character and Dakota really hammed it up for Ty. They
also all promised they would make a video for him. After much laughter- and
sighing-everyone out in the family room could also hear the rendition-Ty kissed
the girls and his dad goodnight. But Turkey Lurky-er-Dakota got the the BIGGEST
hug. SmileSmile After the group said goodnight to Ty they also said their goodbyes to
Jason's family. It had been a very long day and they still had the limo ride to
Lake Union. Jenny was so happy meeting and getting to know Jason's family that
she no longer was worried about fitting into his life.

The four had so enjoyed their evening, and relaxed in the
back of the limo intermittently laughing about bits and pieces of it on their
way to the houseboat. Jenny asked Penny if she felt a little creeped out by the
story. Penny told her she actually wondered if Amarosa was going to pop out
from behind the closet door once or twice, and Penny had the feeling Sean from
last season was going to save the day! They both laughed nervous laughs, and
the guys asked what was up. Both girls kept that little tidbit to themselves,
as they pulled up to the pier. And as the girls looked around, they saw mini
lights all over the trees and rails of the houseboat, and rose petals strewn
every where. Candle light illuminated the pathways to the boat and the stars
shone on the faces of the four as they stared in wonder! Jenny hugged Jason so
hard and thanked him for the beautiful surprise! Penny also saw Dakota's hand
in this and kissed him as sweetly as she could. As the four walked into the
houseboat, the girls were so happy, but Jenny couldn't help but think she'd
seen this "romantic vision" before...

Lara was exhausted. Each day brought more dates with
her Bachelors. She went on picnics. She went swimming. She
went to concerts and clubs. Both Christopher and Paul were trying to
outdo each other in being totally romantic. Her room smelled like a
funeral parlor because it was filled with flowers, mainly roses. She had
poems stuck to her mirror that detailed her ever charm. Chris had a
bottle of perfume designed for her and named "Essence of Lara."
It did smell very nice. Paul had taken a picture of them both and had it
blown up poster size. It was on her wall. She felt guilty.
Who wouldn't die for this kind of attention? But she felt crowded was
tired of always smiling. She honestly loved being with both of them and
had been having so much fun, but it was too much of a good thing.

She also was frustrated. Her sisters all seemed to be
falling madly in love and planning weddings. Lara wanted to fall in
love. How could anyone fall in love while trying to divide attention
between two great guys? She had this horrible feeling that she would
become the next Brad. Then the whole world would hate her!! Both
guys wanted to take her to see their homes and meet their whole family.
Whenever they brought it up she changed the subject. She wanted to see
their homes and their life, but meeting their families had never seemed fair to
her. She hated watching the home town dates where the parents were either
all critical or trying so hard to make a good impression. She thought
they must feel like real fools when their kid didn't get the Final Rose.
She had never forgotten Jen's season. She had adored her and was so happy
when Andrew Firestone picked her. She almost cried when they broke up.
Then she watched wach episode of Jen as Bachelorette. For Tara's sake,
she was very happy Jen dumped Jerry. The worst though, to Lara, was the
way Jen talked about that poor family who had been to Thailand. They had
been trying so hard to be interesting and were so nervous. Hearing Jen
virtually laugh at them, "Thailand, Thailand, and OMG Thailand!"
completely turned Lara against her. She didn't want to put parents
through that until she felt sure about one guy.

The family received news today that Trista, Ryan, and Max
Sutter were coming today for a visit. Lara was so anxious to meet
Trista. She requested some time to talk alone with her. Trista was
so sweet and understanding. Lara poured out all of her confused feelings
to her.

"Chris is the hottest. When I'm with him I can't
keep my hands off of him. He wants to help my career too. His
brother has all the best contacts and it just seems like I would have a fantasy
life with him. So I really think it should be Chris.
Accept....everytime I think about saying goodbye to Paul I just feel lost
inside. He is so loving and just completely gets me. He's
patient. Chris gets all jealous and flat out pouts when we all go out
together. Paul just deals with it. But then, I think that maybe
Paul doesn't care about me as much as Chris does."

"What does Paul say about the way he feels?"
asked Trista.

"He says all the right things. He says he is
coming to deeply care about me. He hasn't said the Big L though.
But I think he's just afraid it might scare me off."

After they talked a while longer, Trista got very serious
and took hold of Lara's hand. "Lara, you know I've been where you
are right now. Do you think maybe part of the reason you can't decide
your feelings is because you are just too close to it? Too close to
them? How about taking a couple of days off. I'll bet ABC would
even send you someplace quiet and peaceful. When you get there, just
relax. Think about the guys and your time with them. Then I want
you to think about this. Marriage is hard work. To make it, you
have to have a solid connection, a solid foundation. You have
to know that you love this man so much that marrying him is just plain
your only option. You have to feel that living without them is something
to horrible to ever imagine. Think about Chris and Paul. Think
about sending them away and never seeing them again. Of course it will be
hard to send either of them home. I'm not talking about that. I'm
talking about feeling in your soul that not being a part of their life would
mean you would never again feel whole. If you don't feel that way about
either of them, that's ok. The world is full of people to meet and you
are young. Send them both home, because someday you will meet a guy you
do feel that way about."

"Wow," breathed Lara, And that's how you feel
about Ryan?"

"That's how I feel about Ryan," Trista's eyes grew
dreamy, "And that is how he feels about me."

Lara hugged Trista and thanked her sincerely. Her
advise made a lot of sense. Lara wanted to follow it. She went off
in search of Chris to discuss getting away for a couple of days.

Roger bowed his head and looked down at his hands.
“Now comes the hard part. By the time we were in college, Ron had taken a
turn for the worse. He had some scrapes with the law, nothing too
serious. I don’t want you to worry about that with your sister. But
he also was wildcatting around and left a lot of broken hearts in his
wake. Again, hopefully he’s outgrown that stuff. He also was great
about spending more money than he had and running to Jeremy’s father to bail
him out. When Charles Darlsey died, he wisely set up a trust in his Will
for Ron, but Ron wanted his money then and managed to find a sleazy lawyer who
got it for him. Well, it was like the story of the "Prodigal
son.” In just two years flat, Ron had spent every penny and came crawling
home to Jeremy looking for another handout.”

“By this time, Jeremy was a little older and wiser. He
agreed to help Ron out but laid down the law it was for the last time.
Since then, I haven’t seen much of Ron, but from what I have heard, he hasn’t
mended his ways. Last year, he got a wealthy heiress to run away with him
to Scotland. Well, her father had Scotland Yard on that one in two shakes
of a lamb’s tail and got his daughter back. He also paid Ron off to keep
the story out of the tabloids. I hope that me telling you all of this
isn’t a mistake.”

Jane reached out and took Roger’s hands, saying sincerely,
“Roger, I’m shocked by what I’m hearing, but thank you so much for telling me
the truth. You have no idea how this helps me. If it makes you feel
any better, I think that Ron and my sister are doing OK. He certainly is
a charming guy, but they seem to have found a real connection as a couple.
They’re very happy together and it’s genuine newlywed bliss, but I’ll know to
watch Ron now for any signs that things are changing.”

Roger explained, “I know Jeremy isn’t one to talk about all
of this, but I feel as Ron’s sister-in-law and Jeremy’s friend, you have a
right to know what Ron is capable of and just how honorable Jeremy has been
about all of this.” “Thanks, Roger. I’m understanding more about
the incredible “Lord Darsley” every day!”

While waiting for Jeremy, Jane and Roger had time to get to
know each other a little better. Jane learned that Roger lived in a house
on the ranch with his wife, Ginnie, his college sweetheart. Roger was the
proud papa of Noah, 4, and Becky, 2, and looked forward to seeing them growing
up on the ranch in a reenactment of his own childhood experiences. Jane
shared that she had nine sisters and a bit about recent events in her
family. Jeremy joined them and after a little small talk, Jane was
assisted aboard Sugar, the stirrups were adjusted, and they were finally off
for a ride and that picnic.

Two hours later, they had stopped for their picnic under a
large shade tree. Jane had never seen a tree like it. Jeremy
explained that it was a Chinkapin Oak, a tree that did really well in
mid-Texas. Ellen had provided a substantial lunch with sandwiches, potato
salad, some fruit, and a cold mason jar full of iced tea. Somehow,
glasses had been forgotten, so Jane and Jeremy shared, drinking the tea straight
from the jar. Once they had eaten, they lay on their sides facing each
other, talking, and just enjoying each other’s company. After awhile,
drowsiness set in, so they just cuddled up together and took a nap. They
both appreciated a day with no hectic agenda and had decided to take full
advantage of their freedom.
