Now, what Jason and our ever bubbly twins had actually discovered was not a hidden fortune, not an art collection, not some secret bedroom meant for unsavory things (although, it may have been used for that a little bit over the years). What they had stumbled into had actually been a scientific laboratory three generations ago. The laboratory had belonged to Horatio Bullfrog Bonnet (See, Bullfrog is a family name and has been ever since Miranda Louise Bullfrog had married into the family back in 1899.) Horatio who went by H.B., had dabbled in science as a hobby and found it very convenient to use the hidden room for his experiments. In the past, the room had been used for storage of family valuables and treasures, but as those things dwindled, especially during the Depression, and the room became emptier and emptier, it was the perfect place for a lab, especially because his wife, who was kind of a Battleax, didn't like him to dabble in science. She had wanted him to spend all of his time making the "Big Bucks."

So, it was at this time, that the hidden room became a secret and H.B.'s wife was oblivious to the fact that when she thought H.B. was in his study making money, he was often in his state-of-the-art-laboratory-for-those-days, which meant he had some beakers, Petri dishes, a microscope, and other now-old-fashioned stuff. So, what H.B. had worked so laboriously on is his laboratory was a Time Machine. Now, remember Juan knew all of this. He had often been tempted to use H.B.'s Time Machine, which sat in one corner and resembled one of those old-fashioned looking red British phone booths (which it actually had been at one point), but had three buttons inside that read "Past," "Present," and (you guessed it!) "Future."

When J.B. called Juan into the study, Juan had a sixth sense that the “jig was up” and that that clever Jason had somehow managed to find the secret room that had stumped Bonnets for generations. So, he wasn’t surprised when Mr. B. asked, “Juan, do you know anything about this?” and quite impressively opened the turning bookshelf with ease. “Yes, sir, I must confess I did. But, you see, my father told me about it when I was a little boy and he always made me promise I would keep it a secret. I don’t know why it had to be a secret and he won’t be able to tell us anymore, since his memory is so bad. I’m sorry, sir, but I had to keep the secret my father made me swear to keep upon my sacred honor.”

“Under the circumstances, of course I understand,” generously replied J.B., very moved by such a close relationship between father and son. So, the secret was now out and some of the sisters were secretly pissed that in all those years of looking for a secret passage, they had never found one, and now Jason and Jenny and Penny had “written the book” on How to Kick A$$ at Finding Secret Passages for Dummies.

Sara was especially interested in the hidden room, given her
love of History and Family History, too. So, she was one of the sisters
who was a little pissed at not finding the room, but just a little, because she
was more happy that it had been found. Sara and Susie Q. were very
close. They had similar sunny personalities and were intelligent, fun
girls, who both loved children. So, they had gone on a double date on
Tuesday and brought along all of their Bachelors. Susie Q invited Brett
(the Doctor) and Michael (the farmer) and Sara invited Eric (the other History
teacher) and Bob (the hunky Geologist) and they all went to the Blue Moon
Outdoor Center. It was a place right up Bob’s alley and since Brett was
into water sports, too, he thought it was a great idea.

At Blue Moon, they did some kayaking, canoeing, and mountain
biking during the afternoon. Then they enjoyed the guided eco-adventure
tour that showed them manatees, dolphins and other natural wonders “up close
and personal.” They spent the evening at the onsite Historical Blue
Marlin Fish House Restaurant having a four star dinner and all agreed that it had
been a wonderful day. Sara and Susie thoroughly enjoyed getting to know
the four Bachelors better and decided they were all “winners” which was
going to make it really tough when it came to future decisions. (This date was covered for MaggieAngel by
S&T at Maggie’s request to keep things moving over the weekend.
Maggie will be back to cover “our girls” on Monday.)

With the discovery of the hidden room, Juan was relieved of
a secret he had been carrying all those years, but he had also lost an
opportunity. Colleen found him sitting at the table on the patio outside
the kitchen door, muttering to himself, ”I should have done it . . . years ago
. . . but I was chicken . . . now it’s too late . . . and Mary . . . Mary will
never be mine . . . if only I had done it . . .what will I do now?”

“Juan?” said Colleen with concern in her voice. “Would
you like a glass of ice tea or lemonade?” “No, thank you, Colleen,” said
Juan, thinking that a bottle of tequila might help him drown his troubles, but
being too proper and disciplined to suggest such a thing, so instead he asked,
”Do you know what we’re having for dinner?”

“Well, the B’s are having a big fancy dinner that’s being
catered by that Gordon Ramsay fellow, but us “Downstairs” folk (the staff sometimes joked about the
“Upstairs, Downstairs” social levels of the Castle, but it was really a joke,
because they were all treated like part of the family, except for things like
this fancy schmancy dinner)
are having meatloaf and mashed potatoes.”
“My favorite comfort foods!” exclaimed Juan. “Yes,” said Colleen,
“I know.”

At this point, Colleen felt an uncommon boldness enter her
soul and she sat down beside Juan, partially to get a load off those four inch
heels. “Juan,” she said, putting her hand under his chin and lifting his
face to meet hers, “I’ve noticed that you seem sad or upset about
something. Is there anything I can do?” Juan looked into Colleen’s
warm, blue eyes, and was surprised by her concern, but shook his head,
saying “Colleen, I really can’t talk about anything, but meatloaf and
mashed potatoes is the best news I’ve had all day.” “I’m glad,” said
Colleen quietly (while in her head she
was saying,’Yippee” and pumping her fists!)

As the girls were putting the finishing touches on their
evening preparations, they heard the other girls and their dates being seated
in the banquet hall. Jenny and Penny hurried down the stairs to meet up with
Jason, Marcus, and Dakota. Their parents had been seated ahead of them, and the
twins as well as their dates were announced to the guests in the hall. The
girls each wore a tiara to hold back their massive curls, with little tendrils
escaping along their hairlines. The Florida humidity kept their hair looking
glorious, and their flushed cheeks set off their twinkling turquoise eyes.
Jenny and Penny's excitement enhanced their beauty tenfold, and everyone just
stopped their chatter and stared. It wasn't often that the Bonnet women sat in
silence, and Mr. B. thought maybe they should do this more often! Even Jason
was intrigued by these beauties, and he was beginning to see the twins in a
whole other light, so to speak. He already felt a connection to Penny's funny
bone, but it was Jenny that he felt he could tell anything to. She seemed to
have an uncanny knack for figuring out how to solve little issues with
children, so he had no doubt she would be a very loving and wise mother one
day. Not to mention the fact that he would love to see what a child with their
genetic combination would be like-now Jason started to blush and he tried to
put that thought out of his head. Finally conversations around the table began
to resume as dinner was being served until Mr. B. stood and raised his glass
for a toast to their guests of honor. Mrs. B. Just gave her husband a look as
if to say keep it simple-no goofy toasts today. And so everyone raised their
wine glasses and Mr. B. simply said, "Here's to my beautiful and ingenious
daughters and their very handsome new friend-cheers to a job well done-I am so
very proud of you all!" With clinking glasses and shouts of cheers, the
girls reveled in all of it. Marcus, Dakota, and Jason kissed both girls on the
cheeks, thinking they were so lucky to be seated with the "belles of the
ball" if you will. As if that weren't enough, Chris Harrison (Mr. Hunka
Hunka himself), along with his most beautiful wife Gwen, were seated next to
Mrs. B. and across from Jenny and Penny!

The girls were finding it a little difficult to keep up with
the flowing conversations at the table since they were surrounded by so much
good looking testosterone! They were so overcome with hormonal hotness they
might as well have been joining the ranks of Mrs. B. and in a constant state of
maternal menopausal metamorphosis! There was so much flushing and flashing-as
in hot-going on at that table the girls were drinking most of the ice water at
hand. Mary and Colleen as well as Juan did more running for water than they
ever remembered doing, EVER.! Jason chatted with Jenny/Penny, the Harrison's,
and Mrs. B. most of the time. He hated to admit that he did not like seeing
Marcus and Penny laughing together, and especially didn't like seeing Dakota
lean in to Jenny, whispering in her ear. They were HIS twins after
all-whoa-where did that come from he wondered? With that, Jason focused more on
the other guests, because he was becoming way too attached to the twins.
Jenny/Penny were involved in deep conversations with their dates. But Jenny did
indeed take notice of the fact that Jason seemed a little "perturbed"
by her closeness to Dakota, and so she smiled a bit to herself. For some reason
that thought rather excited her, and the rest of the evening just flew by.

Since the dinner didn't really count as a date, Jenny and
Penny asked Marcus and Dakota to go out clubbing on the Miami Strip. They
decided to make it a double date, but invited all the young adults to go along.
Several limos pulled up in front of the castle, and the couples-and some
singles- piled in for a night on the town. Jason decided that he wasn't in the
mood to go clubbing-he wanted to work on his board game now that he got to add
in an extra (hidden) room to the mix. At least that's what he told the others.
He realized that he probably shouldn't be spending so much time with Jenny and
Penny right now, and went in the limo with Chris and his wife to discuss the
upcoming show. As the limo pulled away he felt a strange knot in his stomach,
and he knew something was not right here...

Jane and Peter flew out to California early Thursday morning
(which was the day after the big dinner) and
were met at the airport by Andrew and Ivana. The foursome had lunch at a
fabulous authentic Mexican restaurant on the way up to the Valley. They
ate outside at a table inlaid with beautiful Mexican tiles that was set on a
terracotta colored patio with a panoramic view of green hills and apple
orchards. Jane found it very easy to talk to the Firestone
threesome. Andrew reported that his Winotpop was coming along. It
would take awhile to get the FDA approval it needed to be released to the
public, but their marketing tests had been quite successful and the new product
looked as promising as Andrew had envisioned. Jane found the idea of a
wine lollipop a bit absurd, but she held her tongue. (She had no idea that her own father was now a major investor!)

When they arrived at Peter’s family estate, Andrew and Ivana
said goodbye and headed to their own home on the neighboring vineyard.
Peter’s home was not a castle, but it was a lovely sprawling brick ranch house
with a gigantic entry hall and a courtyard in the middle of the u-shaped
building. The courtyard could be reached by almost every room in the
house. After a brief tour, Jane was taken to a bedroom in the west
wing. It was a lovely room with ivory colored wallpaper printed with
a striped pattern, dotted with a smattering of roses. The bed was made up
in crisp white linens with a fluffy duvet serving as a luxurious cover.
The room was spacious and comfortable with a feeling of freshness.
Jane unpacked quickly and opened the sliding door to the courtyard to join
Peter and his parents.

They offered her a glass of ice tea or a glass of
wine. Jane chose the ice tea. She was very thirsty and it tasted so
good. “Thank you for having me on such short notice,” Jane said to
Peter’s parents, “Your house is lovely. My room is beautiful."
“Thank you. We want you to be comfortable,” said Peter’s mother,
Miriam. Peter’s father, who was named Tom offered, “What are you
interested in doing while you’re here, Jane? I imagine you’d like the
usual tour of the vineyard and the winery.” “Yes, of course, I want to
see that, but I’d also just like to relax and have a chance to get to know you
and get to know Peter a little better, as well. Tell me what he was like
as a boy.” (Well, you know that
that was like opening the door to an endless conversation.)

Marcus and Penny sat very close to each other in the back of
the limo. Penny wanted to know how Marcus figured out that acting was his
forte. He told her that since his father was an actor, he was on the set a lot
and it became like a second home to him. His father didn't really want him to
pursue that particular career, especially because the entertainment industry
was known to also have a very dark side. But it couldn't be denied-Marcus had a
natural talent, and a confidence on stage much like his father. The only
compromise Michael Talbott was willing to make was that Marcus had to attend a
major university and get a degree. And so Marcus attended Stanford Univ. and
graduated with a double major in dramatic arts and business, so he always would
be able to support himself. But the stage was really where his heart was at
home. Penny could listen to him for hours since she regretted not going on to
college and majoring in the same thing as Marcus.

On the other side of the limo, Dakota and Jenny were having
a similar discussion. Since both of Dakota's parents were actors, he was also
introduced to the entertainment industry at an early age. He graduated from
UCLA and majored with a Bachelors of Interdisciplinary Studies, combining
dramatic arts and film making. He was very comfortable on either side of the
camera and frequently worked with both of his parents. Jenny loved to watch
movies of any genre, and so they had a wonderful conversation that lasted all
the way to the club.

The first club they went to was a little loud, but both
couples just ordered their drinks and did a lot of dancing. Both bachelors were
very good dancers, since that was often a job requirement. Unfortunately the
men were recognized by a few fans and after signing some autographs, the
couples decided to go to a quieter more intimate club just around the corner.
While there Jenny asked Marcus if their fathers were in contact very often.
Dakota chuckled and told her that Don and Michael were still friends, sometimes
worked together, and were business partners in some local Miami ventures. It
turns out that Devin, Dakota, and Marcus practically grew up together because
of the series Miami Vice, and both families owned homes all over the US and
Spain even. The boys pretty much commuted between Miami and CA all of their
lives. Well Jenny and Penny were ecstatic to learn this! If the girls continued
to date both men it would be almost as good as if they were dating twins!!
Jenny and Penny were thinking about this very thing when Dakota told them that
both of their dads were in the Miami area right now doing some business
together. Marcus then asked the girls if they wanted to meet their fathers.
Jenny/Penny replied yes (in unison, of course) so fast, it reminded the men
that these girls had indeed once been cheerleaders!

The tired foursome decided to call it a night, and got in
the limo to go home. Both couples just curled up on the seats and cuddled and
whispered for the entire ride. Jenny was quite mesmerized by Dakota, and he
with her. Penny was practically beside herself because she had never met anyone
like Marcus. She did not want to let go of him when the limo arrived at the
castle! As the men bid their adieus, the girls sighed (in unison, of course),
and gave their beaus huge kisses-this was one opportunity neither twin was
going to miss out on! The girls got ready for bed, glowing inside, but Jenny
felt a little lost. She didn't know why, but then she realized that she missed
Jason, and she wondered what he was doing right now...

The next day, Juan, who was truly a man of many abilities,
was lying under Mr. B.’s Mercedes doing an oil change, when Colleen came out of
the kitchen door and into the attached garage to get some ice cream out of the
large, extra freezer. At the same time Colleen passed in front of the
car, Juan who had just tightened the last screw, shot out from under the car on
the little wheeled platform he was lying on. Colleen, who had no idea
Juan was there, was startled and jumped up in the air, but one of her 4” heels
caught on the cuff of Juan’s pants. Before anyone knew what had happened,
Colleen fell flat on her stomach right on top of Juan. Fortunately, no
one was hurt, but it was a rather compromising position.

It was also very funny. So both Juan and Colleen began
to laugh heartily, which led to some interesting movements as their bodies
rubbed against each other, which led to them laughing harder. When
Colleen got control of herself, she rolled off of Juan and onto the floor
beside him. They were both still laughing as they looked into each
other’s eyes. Juan suddenly realized just how pretty Colleen was and also
just how nice. He remembered how Colleen always made his favorite dishes (hey, it’s about time, Buddy!) and how
sweet and understanding she always was. Juan’s Latino libido finally
kicked in and he leaned over, falling off the platform, as he kissed Colleen
passionately. Colleen, who had been waiting for ten full years for this
to happen, knew just how to kiss Juan back and in such a way that any thoughts
of Mary were now finally History! AWWWWW!

Lara had been told her date with Paul was casual, and he
would pick her up at 11AM. She debated on what to wear. She loved
her white jeans, but she had been told they were out of style. She also
wasn't sure how they looked on her. Lara was slender, but she was
curvy. She didn't want to go out with Paul wearing something that made
her butt look big!!! She settled on blue capris and a bright blue and
yellow flowered blouse. She gathered her hair up in a high ponytail with
tendrils falling around her face. White sandals completed her look and
she hurried down the stairs when she heard Paul had arrived.

He led her outside to his PT Cruiser convertible. Lara
laughed because she always thought those cars were so cute. She noticed a
huge picnic basket in the back seat. She reached back to open it and Paul
playfully slapped her hand. "No peeking!"

Then Paul became more serious. "Look, I heard
about the date you had with Chris and I'll bet it was amazing. I can't do
anything like that. I couldn't afford that kind of date."

Lara began to protest but Paul quickly silenced her.
"No, let me finish. I just want you to know that even if I could
afford that stuff, it wouldn't be my style. I don't want to dazzle a
girl into falling in love with me. I want to get to know someone and have
fun and spend time together just getting to know each other in normal
ways. Then, if we fall in love, we'll know it was because we were meant
to be with each other forever, not just because the setting was so
romantic."

Lara's first reaction was to feel a bit irritated because
Paul started out their date with such a long, serious speech. She
couldn't stay mad though, because she understood just what he meant. And
she basically felt the same way herself. Still, it got the date started
on a really sober note. They didn't talk much as he drove. They
just listened to music from a CD Paul had mixed. Their music tastes were
so similar!

They arrived at a beach where a boat had docked. Paul
led her to the boat and she climbed on. She looked around the beautiful
little craft and sighed. "This is so cute!"

"I'm glad you like her," Paul came up behind
her and pulled her gently against him, "She's mine."

Lara loved sailing. She had a wonderful time helping
Paul as they steered to a little island. No one else was around.
Paul tied up his boat and grabbed the picnic basket. He took a large
blanket out first and spread it out on the sand. He began to set up their
lunch, which contained all of Lara's favorite foods! They talked, teased
and laughed. He told her about his his family and she described growing
up as the baby of the Bonett house. After they finished their meal they
walked along the shore line, throwing leftover bread to the seagulls.
"It would be such a great day to swim," sighed Lara. "I
wish I had brought my suit."

"Never fear!" laughed Paul. He ran back to
the basket and pulled out a beautiful cream and brown print bathing suit.
He handed it to Lara. "Now I'll turn around and you do too.
I'll get into my suit while you try this on. I won't turn back around
until you tell me you are ready."

Lara turned around and as quickly as possible took off her
clothes and put on the suit. She trusted Paul not to turn around until
she was dressed. It never occured to her that while he didn't turn back
around, he never promised he wouldn't peek!!

The suit was perfect. It was styled to be very sexy
and almost revealing, but not quite. When Paul was allowed to look he
gave a low wolf whistle. Lara laughed and ran splashing into the
water. They played like a couple of kids, dunking and splashing each
other. Both were sorrt when they realized that the afternoon was running
late and it was time to sail home. As badly as he wanted to, Paul hadn't
kissed her all day. He waited until they were in the boat and almost back
to shore. Then they stood at the railing, watching the sunset as it
surrounded everything in a warm red glow. slowly he turned her around in
his arms and and gave her one, long, perfect kiss. Lara looked as
though she definitly wanted more, but Paul turned his attention back to
docking his boat. "Always leave them wanting!" he thought
happily.

When Lara and Paul arrived back at the mansion, everyone was
in a tizzy. Kara grabbed Lara and filled her in on the hidden room.
Lara exclaimed, "That is just ridiculous! It's so
exciting!" Kara told her that the banquet was starting in 15 minutes.
Lara was horrified! How would she get ready so quickly? She grabbed
Paul and asked him to join her. Then she had Kara find Juan and ask him
to invite Christopher as well. She flew up the stairs and into the
shower. She grabbed the first gown in her closet and put it
on. She could do nothing with her hair in such a short time so the just
ran a pick through it. As it dried, it curled a bit, forming a cloud
around her face.

She hurried down the stairs just in time to be escourted
into the dining room by Chris and Paul. She enjoyed the evening and
happily toasted Jenny, Penny, and Jason (who
looked even hansomer in person!)
She spent the rest of the evening
basking in the attentions of her two very enthusiastic dates. No question
about it! This was definity worth staying out of school for a semester!

She turned to her dates and said, "Okay, tomorrow I
have a very special date planned for....

On Friday, Fred became the hero of the Glasgow office of
Struther’s when he finally located the obscure, but pertinent, passage that
applied to the important client and “saved the day!” In a 1959 case, Fred
found the correlating ruling that quickly became called the “Baa, Baa, Black
Sheep” clause, when it was used by Struther’s. It was given this nickname
because the clause allowed foreign importers to bring wool into Scotland, which
is exactly what the firm’s present-day client had done and had gotten into
trouble for. It also might interest our readers to know that Fred located
the case of Baa, Baa, Black Sheep in between a case that accused Peter Piper of
Picking up a Peck of Pickled Peppers that did not belong to him and the case of
Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary, who had allegedly cut up her husband with a carving
knife. You’ll be relieved to know (because
we’re sure you are curious)
that Fred couldn’t help but read the follow-up
article regarding these two intriguing cases that told of how both Peter Piper
and Mary Contrary were acquitted of these crimes, because of their solid
alibis. It was discovered that at the time of the crimes, Peter and Mary
were both several towns away, locked up together in a room at the Mother Goose
Inn having “tea for two.” (Who knew
that Scottish law could be so interesting?)
At any rate, Fred got an
instant promotion to Partner and was given notice that he could go home to
Miami. (Yippee!)

Jane spent Friday on a tour of the Firestone vineyards and
then enjoyed sampling a variety of wines. (You know the drill!) They were, in order: . . . “smokey” . .
. .”fruity” . . . “too sweet” . . . “too dry . . . “light and tingly” . . .
“delicious” . . . “smooth” . . . “woodsy” . . . “perky” . . . and . . .
“sparkling.” Jane was impressed by what she saw and tasted and could see
that the Firestones certainly had a passion for making wine. She found
Peter very entertaining. He was smart, witty, nice, and easy to talk
to. The question was, was he “the one” for her. As a writer, she
could write anywhere and she certainly wasn’t afraid to roll up her sleeves and
work alongside Peter and his family when she was needed, but although she
genuinely liked Peter, she didn’t feel herself falling in love with him.
However, since it was so early in their relationship, she didn’t want to rule
out the possibility that this was a case where friendship could eventually lead
to love. On the other hand, that night, as she watched the sunset over
the hills before she joined Peter and his family for dinner, Jane found herself
thinking about Jeremy. Where is
he? What is he doing? Did he find Louise? Is Fred coming home
to Bonnie like Jeremy promised?
There were so many questions, but
Jane tried to relax and told herself, they would be answered soon. Then
she thought about the kiss Jeremy had left her with on Monday night before he
so kindly went after Louise and Ron. She knew what that kiss had meant to
her, but what had it meant to Jeremy?

Bonnie had spent her week quietly doing her usual things to
make the Castle run smoothly. On Friday morning at breakfast, she
reminded Jenny & Penny, who were a bit distracted by all of their
Bachelors, as well as that dreamy Jason fellow that they still needed to do
their Friday morning dusting and vacuuming. She had discussed menus for
the next week with Colleen and noticed Colleen sure seemed to be in a good mood
these days! Bonnie had also informed Martha, the General Maid, (who we
haven’t really met yet), that she should incorporate the lovely snapdragons
that were currently in bloom in the garden when she changed all of the flower
arrangements. The snapdragons would be a charming enhancement to the
weekly shipment of flowers arriving today from the florist. Under
Bonnie’s apt guidance the Castle sparkled like the gem it truly was and Bonnie
was so grateful to all of those ABC and HGTV home renovations that had so
improved their home environment. Bonnie had plenty to keep her
busy. She belonged to two book clubs, did volunteer work at both the
Library and the local soup kitchen, and also enjoyed doing needlepoint.
However, as the week had worn on and she had crossed off each day on the calendar,
she was marking time until next Monday night, when Jeremy had promised her Fred
would be back. Bonnie hoped against hope that Jeremy was a man of his
word.

In the kitchen, it was amazing how quickly things
changed. On Friday morning, Mary discovered that her napkin
ring had been moved to the end of the table. She had been delayed getting
to breakfast, due to helping Mrs. B. decide what to wear to her Bridge meeting
that day. When she did arrive, she found, not only her napkin ring moved,
but also Colleen sitting in the seat Mary had used for twenty years. Mary
couldn’t help but notice that Juan and Colleen were gazing across the table
looking lovingly into each other’s eyes with very happy glows on their
faces. Now Mary, who had been totally “clueless” about Juan’s feelings
all those years for herself caught on immediately that Juan and Colleen had
finally “found” each other. She couldn’t fathom what had taken them so
long! Since Mary had always thought that Juan and Colleen belonged
together, she was happy for them and didn’t mind moving down to the end of the
table at all.

Meanwhile, Pedro and Martha were enjoying this new
romance. Pedro, who always sat next to Juan, and Martha, who always sat
next to Mary (well now, it would be Colleen), were grinning, taking peeks at
the new couple, and exchanging amused looks. When Mary sat down at her
new place, Martha was on her left and Pedro was on her right. Mary tapped
each of them on the shoulder and mouthed “Cut it out!” to them. Martha
and Pedro just laughed. It really didn’t matter. Juan and Colleen
were in a world of their own. (Thank goodness for “happy accidents!”)

Pedro and Martha were actually brother and sister. They had
come to the U.S. from Cuba when they were teens. Pedro had worked as
Groundskeeper for the Bonnets for eight years now. He liked the
work. It was not too demanding and he loved being outside. He
didn’t even mind the hottest weather. When he had learned that the
General Maid was leaving two years ago, he had encouraged his sister Martha to
apply for the job and it had worked out very well. They were now able to
drive to work together, but had to be there early each day, so they always had
breakfast and lunch in the Castle kitchen.

Pedro was a handsome man of 35, with a naturally slender
build that was kept in excellent shape by his work. He was married to his
high school sweetheart, Martina, and they had three children with a fourth on
the way. (Colleen had only been
joking with herself when the thought had crossed her mind a few days ago to
give Pedro the time of day, of course!)
Martha was still
single. She was a pretty woman of 33 with long, dark chocolate
hair. She enjoyed her job at the Castle very much and liked seeing all
the goings on with the girls and their clothes and their parties and
such. Now, with this ABC circus going on, it was really great to see the
parade of those handsome muchachos. Maybe, she thought, there’s one out
there for me. Little did Martha know that Jenny & Penny had slipped
Fernando a note with Martha’s name and the kitchen phone number on it. (Will Fernando give Martha a call if
he gets tired of Brenda?)

As Colleen did the dishes after breakfast, she chuckled to
herself. She was thinking about writing a “Thank You" note to Hall
& Oates for the tip about the 4” spiked heels she had used from their book,
“How to Dress for Man Eating for
Dummies.”
It was, after all, those spiked heels that had gotten
caught on Juan’s pant’s cuff yesterday and led to the “happy accident” that had
brought them together at last! Thankfully now, however, she was planning
to put those heels away for evening use only and enjoy the comfort of her U.S.
made New Balance shoes while she worked. Halleluiah Baby!

On Saturday evening, Fred and Jeremy rendezvoused at
Heathrow in London for the flight back home and clapped each other on the
back. Jeremy congratulated Fred on his promotion and filled him in on
Bonnie and how much she really did care about him and missed him terribly,
which made Fred glow with pride (about
the job
) and happiness (about Bonnie).
Jeremy then introduced Fred to Mr. and Mrs. Ron Wikid, who had just come around
the corner from a visit to the airport gift shop, and Louise proudly showed her
ring and announced the fact that they were now a “happily married
couple.” Fred was delighted for them. The newlyweds and
two of our favorite Bachelors all flew home together to Miami.

Since London time is eight hours ahead of California time,
Jane and Peter were thanking Peter’s parents for their hospitality at about the
same time the foursome mentioned above left Heathrow for Miami. “Thank
you!” said Jane. “I’ve really enjoyed meeting you and seeing where Peter
grew up.” “We hope to have you as part of our family,” said Miriam.
“Make sure this guy behaves, Jane.” said Tom. Peter hugged his parents
and said he’d call soon and with that Jane and Peter were off on their return
trip to Miami.

Jenny and Penny were supposed to be cleaning and dusting
on Saturday morning, but the girls had been invited to meet Marcus and Dakota's
fathers. Mrs. B. wanted to see her daughters married off as soon as possible,
so she agreed to put the chores on hold for a bit. The girls ate a quick
breakfast and hurried through their toilette so they could be ready in time. At
10 am promptly the limo arrived to pick them up to bring them to Dakota's
family home in Miami. After a 20 minute ride the girls got to their
destination, and felt a little nervous. They were, after all, meeting the fathers
of their bachelors and wanted to make a good impression. As the limo door
opened both Marcus and Dakota each helped his potential wife out and hugged
Penny and Jenny with relish!

The home where the Johnson family lived was beautifully done
in a Mediterranean style, with fountains scattered here and there over the lush
grounds. They passed through a miniature rose garden on their way to the
portico, and just inhaled its heavenly scent.

Once inside, the twins were introduced to Don Johnson and
Michael Talbott. Both Dakota and Marcus looked so much like their fathers but
Dakota's eyes were a little more of a sea green in color, and Marcus' eyes had
little flecks of amber just like his twin and his mother. It was easy for the
girls to see that both men were close to their sons. Jenny and Penny knew that
was an important issue for them and were happy to see the ease with which the
four men interacted: they laughed, told stories and teased each other. Jenny
and Penny lost their nervousness and thoroughly enjoyed their visit. The twins
even told the men about their dreams/nightmares that they appeared in with
Amarosa. When the girls mentioned Amarosa's name, both Don and Michael laughed.
The girls asked what was so funny, and Michael told them that Amarosa had indeed
approached them about some business deal, but that The Donald warned them to
stay away, that Amamrosa was trouble with a capital T! But the men did say that
they were indeed rebuilding parts of downtown Miami, and if the girls had any
ideas for nightclubs in that area to let them know. Well, this sent the girls
into a tizzy, because they did indeed have some ideas thanks to that
nightmare/s, and agreed to meet later that week or next to talk. While saying
their good byes, the foursome was happy about the visit. Everybody got along
well and Marcus asked if the girls wanted to go out later. Jenny and Penny said
they would call the bachelors later that day to firm up plans. After some
hugging, kissing, and more kissing the girls got into the limo and left the
Johnson home.

Penny let out a huge sigh in the limo and told Jenny she was
glad that was over. When Jenny asked her why she said that she was so nervous
about meeting Marcus' father because she cared so much for Marcus and didn't
want to look silly or be tongue tied. Jenny told Penny that she loved meeting
Don Johnson, but wasn't it weird how they looked and acted just like they did
in their dreams? Both girls just went on and on about this fact until they
arrived back at the castle.

Penny ran to her father's study to look for a book-something
titled Clubbing For Dummies-that
might give her some ideas for her meeting later this week. She also grabbed one
called Trolling For Dummies-now there's an oxymoron, she thought.
She hadn't heard from her friend Mackey for a few days and she thought this
might give her some insight into the whole troll problem. Maybe she could keep
mayhem from mobbing the message boards.

While in the study she noticed that the shelves were bulging
with books, and that the Dummie books were reproducing rapidly. It was as if
each time she had a new problem and needed another place to look for answers,
there was a new Dummie book on the shelf about that very thing-odd! Penny was
just about to explain this phenomenon to Jenny when she noticed her twin
suddenly became silent. Jenny was mulling things over when she thought of Jason
just then. She wanted to see him and talk to him and she wondered how Ty was
doing now that his daddy was home for a few days. As Jenny and Penny walked
into the hallway, Mrs. B. told the girls that they had missed out on a visit
from Devin and Austin, and they should call them back. Then she also remembered
that Jason called and said that he needed to see the hidden room again, and
something about measuring, and um, a surprise. Jenny just felt flushed and hot,
and ran upstairs to take a cool bath! She felt nervous and excited at the same
time and wondered what that was all about...

Saturday morning found Lara in high spirits. The show
was less than a week old and already so much had happened. Who ever have
believed that sour old Louise would be the first one married? Lara
couldn’t say that Ron had impressed her, he seemed too sneaky
somehow. She had heard that Louise was wildly happy though so Lara
was glad for her. And Tara and Jerry were getting married on
Monday!! Wow! She couldn’t imagine marrying anyone yet but Tara and
Jerry looked so in love! Plus they had asked Lara to be maid of honor,
since she had helped them get together. Now if she could just get through
the wedding with out crying all over national television. Unfortunately
whenever Lara cried, her nose dripped as much as her eyes! It would not
be pretty on camera! She wondered if Chris could get his brother, Josh to
sing at the wedding!

As far as her own two darling Bachelors, she had
something quite exciting planned for the day. Their first 2:1 date!
She dressed in a simple T-shirt and designer jeans and threw a leather jacket
over her shoulder. The trusty ABC limo was waiting for her and next drove
to the Hilton for the guys. They enjoyed a continental breakfast as they
sped to their destination. Paul seemed to be a morning person and laughed
as he tossed bites of Danish into her mouth. Christopher was more
reserved and quietly sipped his coffee even when Lara tried her best to draw
him out. As they drove, Lara lowered the shades on all the windows.
“I want you to be surprised!” she explained. Paul badgered her for hints
the rest of the way.

When the limo stopped, all three piled out onto the
beach. Both Bachelors stared at the hot air balloon that awaited
them. “Surprise!” called Lara. Chris seemed to wake up and look
interested. Paul was quiet for a moment and Lara could have sworn he
turned a little pale. Still both guys eagerly assisted Lara into the
basket and jumped in after her. They were greeted by the balloon’s owner
who would be piloting their adventure. Lara giggled when he said, “Pay no
attention to the man behind the curtain. I’m just here to get you home
safely.” Chris looked confused but Paul chuckled. Lara confessed,
“I’m a HUGE Wizard of Oz fan. I even had a terrier named Toto when I was
little.”

The balloon took off while Lara led all 3 of them in a
silly version of “We’re Off To See the Wizard.” As the balloon rose, Paul
gripped the edge tightly. It jerked a bit in the wind and Chris took
advantage of the moment to put his arm around Lara and hold her tight. It
was as though their roles had switched. Now Chris was attentive and
playful while Paul grew quiet. When Lara questioned him he began to talk
with them more, but still seemed strained. The view of the ocean was
incredible as they flew along the coastline. They admired it but Paul
seemed to be forcing himself to be a part of the fun. The balloon soared
higher and the currents bumped it around just slightly. To Lara it felt
like an exciting carnival ride and Chris agreed. Then she looked at
Paul. His pale face was turning a sickly green. Suddenly he bolted
for the other side of the balloon. He leaned over the edge gagging while
the pilot grabbed his belt to keep
him from leaning too far
over. Ever prepared, the pilot handed him a wet wipe to clean his face
after he finished parting with his breakfast.

Paul was humiliated.

He didn’t even want to look at Lara when she
hurried to his side. “Do you have motion sickness?” she asked gently.

“No,” he replied, “fear of heights. Really bad fear of
heights, like Jimmy Stewart in that old Alfred Hitchcock movie, Vertigo.”

Lara began to gently rub his back. “Paul, why didn’t
you say something? I wouldn’t have put you through this ride if I knew
how you felt.”

He looked up at her still completely mortified. “I
didn’t want to spoil it for you. And I guess I didn’t want you to know
what a weakling I am about this.”

She shook her head, “You are a weakling at all.
Everybody has some fear. Mine is spiders. You showed a lot of
courage by coming up anyway.” She was truly touched that he had wanted to
please her so badly. She gently kissed his cheek.

“I really think I’ll be okay now.” he told her.
They hadn’t even noticed that the balloon was starting to descend. Nor
did they notice that Chris was scowling at them rather fiercely. When the
balloon landed on another sandy beach, he hurried to help Lara out of the
balloon. His mood did not improve when she seemed more concerned with
Paul’s condition.

They shared a wonderful picnic lunch. Paul’s
appetite had improved, although he declined the wine. He ate cheerfully
when Lara told them that they would return home by limo instead of
balloon. He was determined to see that Lara had fun now to make up for
spoiling the ride. Chris continued to be rather sulky. When Lara pulled
him away for some 1:1 time, walking down the beach, he was distant. Lara
took his hand and even stooped to write his name in the sand. They were
out of Paul’s sight so she leaned in for a kiss and was hurt when Chris cut it
off with a peck.

“Don’t you want to kiss me?”

“Of course I want to kiss you, but I’m not in Junior High
any more. I feel like I’m sneaking around the corner to make out with you
when your boyfriend’s not looking.”

“What?” Lara was totally confused.

“You go out with me and we kiss and it’s like STORYTIME: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE REVISITED - Page 7 2162201979.
Then you go out with him. Do you see the same STORYTIME: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE REVISITED - Page 7 2162201979, Lara? You
were all over him today, so I guess you do.”

Now she began to get angry. “What do you mean?
You know I’m supposed to date you both. You knew the rules of the
game. Do you think I’m some kind of-of cheap trashy girl who’ll just make
out with anyone? Yes, I kissed him. But not like I kissed you!”

She jerked away from him and started running down the
beach. Chris ran after her and caught her easily. He turned her
around to face him and felt like the worst of heels when he saw that she was
crying. “Lara, I am so sorry. I guess I just-“he stopped, trying to
find the words; “I really like you, Lara. I don’t want to share
you. I want you to send him home and just be with me. I’m falling
for you, Lara!”

She put her head on his shoulder and sobbed harder. “I
didn’t know what this would be like. I mean, I knew, but I didn’t know
how it would feel! I didn’t know I would meet someone like you and feel
so much for you. But I feel things for him too, Chris. I won’t like
to you about that. I need more time with both of you to see where things
go. Can you give me that?” Chris rubbed her back in a comforting
way and promised, “I’ll try.” But he didn’t look very happy.

They returned to the picnic site. Paul had spent the
time gathering shells. He wanted his own 1:1 time with Lara, but he saw
she looked upset. He picked the prettiest shell and handed it to her.

“From your embarrassed and humble but adoring servant, my
lady.”

He looked so comically sincere that she had to laugh.
He was such a good friend! But did she feel any more than that for
him? She wasn’t sure.

“Paul, could we have our 1:1 time later this evening?”

“Sure,” he replied, squeezing her hand in a comforting way.

The ride home was quiet. They listened to music and
Lara drifted off to sleep. She didn’t intend to end up leaning against
Paul’s shoulder, but that is where she spent the rest of the ride.

By Saturday night Miami time, Jane was home. Louise
was home with her husband. Tara was home. All of the Bonnet
Bachelorettes would be sleeping under the protection of their sturdy Castle walls.
Mr. and Mrs. B. were all snuggled up tight in their bed with visions of wedding
bells dancing in their heads. And all was right with the Bonnets of
Bonnet Castle. Meanwhile, Fred and Jeremy were sharing a room at
the Hilton where all the Bachelors were staying and both of them were
eager and anxious about what would happen on Monday night. Fred couldn’t
wait to see Bonnie. Jeremy wondered if Jane even wanted to see him at all. (Out in L.A., Fleiss was rubbing his
hands and looking forward to the fireworks planned for Monday night.)

On Sunday morning, after Church, Mrs. B. made a big too-doo
about the homecoming of her married daughter and quickly ordered a “Scottish
Tea“ to officially welcome Louise and Ron back. Ron seemed very jovial
and agreeable and loved being the center of attention. (Surprise! Surprise!)

Mrs. B. who was so happy to have her darling
Louise matched with such a fine gentleman was not quite ready to “cut the apron
strings,” and immediately came up with a wonderful idea. “You two will
just have to stay on at the Castle grounds and live in the Carriage
House. (Jason had gone home to see
Ty, so the Carriage House was now completely available.)
It’s silly
for you to have to pay rent when we have so much space here."

Louise, whose heart had gone through one of those Grinch-like growth spurts (you know, “her heart had grown ten sizes
that day”)
was thrilled with this solution that kept her close to home and
her wonderful sisters and allowed her to flaunt the fact that she was the first
one to get married (OK, so growth is a
process, it doesn’t happen overnight)
!

Ron, of course, loved the idea and all the money it saved
him and his little wifey. Jane, who was watching Ron very carefully, cut
him some slack because he was being very sweet and affectionate with
Louise. (Maybe his heart had grown,
too? . . . Nah!)

Now, at
the Scottish Tea, Mrs. B. was also celebrating the engagement of Tara and
Jerry, who had finally resolved their differences and were now the “poster
couple for blissful love.” They were going to be married on Monday night
at the Cocktail Party. It had all been arranged with ABC. Tara and
Jerry would be receiving a very generous check as a wedding present from ABC to
help their marriage get off to a good start. “Now, why didn’t we think of
that gimmick?” joked Ron to Louise, but inwardly he had the “last laugh,”
knowing that he had struck a much better deal with Jeremy.

Jenny awoke with a start! Today was the big day and she
needed to get that house looking spotless! She roused Penny and they showered
and ran to find Bonnie to see what needed to be done. Even though Jenny was
excited for the cocktail party/wedding, she couldn't help but wonder where
Jason was. Penny went into the library with her Lemon Pledge-as twins, the
girls each had their own bottle of the stuff. They loved the lemony fresh scent
it left behind, and to them it evoked a nostalgia that harkened them back to
their childhood-rather like comfort food does. Dusting had always been their chore
from the time they were little girls and the Bonnets couldn't afford a maid.

Jenny went to her father's study to clean-she always got
high praise from her father after dusting that room. Even though Mr. B. was
somewhat gruff with the girls, he always made sure he told them when they did a
great job to inspire them to take pride in their work no matter what it was.
Instead of her usual Lemon Pledge, Jenny chose a can of Ocean Breeze Pledge
this morning. She was thinking of Jason and Seattle, and that just seemed to
conjure him right up in her mind. In fact, she swore she could hear his voice
and even smell his cologne! Boy, this IS good stuff, and Jenny made a mental
note to invest in the company one day.

Suddenly she got chills as she heard her name being
whispered. She whirled around and saw Jason standing there-she almost folded on
the spot! Jenny couldn't help herself-she ran over to him and just jumped in
his arms. Jason was surprised by this and almost fell over with the weight of
her against him, but steadied himself. Jenny asked him what he was doing there
and he told her that he needed to look the hidden room over again and measure
it for his board game-"Measure twice and cut once," he joked. So
Jenny and Jason hugged chatted and decided to attend the cocktail party/wedding
together even though all the other bachelors would be there also! Jason
admitted that he didn't really need to measure, etc., but he DID need to see
Jenny again. After more kisses and hugs, they agreed to talk later-before the cocktail
party/wedding. Jason told Jenny that he had a surprise and that delighted Jenny
beyond imaginings. And so the couple parted ways, as Jenny rushed about to
finish her cleaning and help her sisters get ready for the big event. She was
literally singing her way through every job and time just flew out the window!
