Our culture is broken.  Jade Roper may be a symptom of it, but she is only a tiny blip in the whole big mess of what has happened in the US.

I agree with you! Seems if you don't agree with what's going on with our culture, your told to "get with it" .Frankly ,I'm glad I wont see what's happening in another 10 to so years! What's left to accept as the norm!

I think Jade seems like a nice and kind woman.  She's also quite beautiful, and she's not intimidating.  She seems a bit boring to me, but I would imagine for many men she's the complete package.

Perhaps our society is losing some of it's Victorian morals?

I liked Jade from the beginning of Chris Soule's season.  I didn't know about the playboy connection until a blogger mentioned it during her Cinderella date recap.  I clicked the link that she had provided at the time and it was PG 13 poses in a car.  It also had the link to the video like she showed Chris but I didn't watch that.  I had no interest.  I don't really have any issue with the photos or anything like that.  I had never heard of a porn connection.

I think the reason the men like Jade is she looks like the girl next door.  Kind of like Winnie from The Wonder Years.  (Danica McKeller).  I love that she never wears make up while lounging around the pool.  I think that makes her more attractive.  I think she is soft spoken and nice and obviously has a wild side and I think she is intriguing to the men - they want to get to know her.  I like her.

You know, for me it's not so much the porn stuff she has done...that's her cross to bear.

I would personally like to think that she has grown up from the other things she did and that she has learned from them and will never do them again. Don't know what the theft was about because it doesn't say, but a DUI is nothing to laugh about and just shrug off. If you have a family member or friend that has been killed by someone that has been driving under the influence, than it isn't something that you're inclined to just laugh at and say it's no big deal. It is a big deal.

Thank you for this post.  You never get your loved one back due to someone else's negligence.  And yes, it's a big deal and I wish ABC would not hire so many contestants with DUI pasts.  I agree, the porn stuff pales in comparison with DUI's and every possible outcome.  I pray that people reading about her (especially young people), can choose to stay on the right path.  I rarely drink and will never understand the attraction alcohol has for some people.

I agree about the alcohol charge! Also I don't agree with so much alcohol drinking on their shows.! It seems they always have a drink in their hands!  But it is glorified in our society,if you notice just having alcohol mentioned in any show ,even cooking shows brings applause!
I don't drink and I imagine I do notice it more than someone who hasn't lived with alcohol abuse for the first 30 years of their life! It ruins so many lives and causes so much heartache! In my eyes its nothing to be celebrated. My sympathy goes out to anyone who experienced that heartache because of it!

Some people learn their lesson after their first DUI or DWI; others do not.  Alcoholism is a disease that needs treatment, not condemnation.  It is an ugly mess.

I had an employer whose child was drinking and driving and caused an accident in which a young college student was killed.  My neighbor also lost her sister and fiance the same way.  I always told my kids if they drank and drove I would pull their license.

I was in the insurance business for over 21 years.  I have heard it all................

I don't condone drinking and driving, and I am not making excuses, but when you are in your late teens, early 20's, you are just stupid!  You think you know everything, you are invincible, and nothing bad will ever happened to you. I admit, when I was in college, I got behind the wheel when I had a few drinks in my system. Luckily I never hurt anyone or myself, and I never have had a DWI, but I could of.  I can cut some a little slack for being young and dumb, but if they are  still doing it now as adults, and did not learn when they got their first DWI, then they are just idiots! I don't have a problem with them drinking on the show. As long as they are being responsible and not getting behind the wheel of a car, they can drink till their hearts are content!

I agree with you, BAL.  While watching Chris' season, I believe it was Jade's brother who referred to her as a "wild mustang."  Apparently, she was a rebellious teen who escaped her hometown and an authority roof as soon as she was able.

Since I like what I now see of her, I choose to believe her wild days are behind her - unless she changes that opinion.

Grammarianna wrote:Here's what this says about our culture:  we're still slut-shaming women.

It's Jade's body; she can do what she likes with it.  As long as nobody is coercing her, she's free to express her sexuality.  She didn't commit any crimes.

I don't know if she's the sweet, unassuming woman we see on our TV screens, or whether she's the wild mustang her family thinks she is.  Frankly, it doesn't matter either way.

And anyway, those two descriptions aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.  A woman can have many sides, many nuances.  We're not all either Madonnas or whores.

From everything I've seen so far, she fully realizes that people will judge her for those videos and photos.  She's probably suffered her share of slut-shaming.

Tanner has seemed quite respectful of Jade, from what we've seen so far.   And while I think the men would have found the idea of dating a Playboy model irresistible, what they probably find even more irresistible is dating a normal, level-headed woman, not some of the drama queens and needy, high-maintenance, insecure women contestants this show seems to attract.

Hi Marianna,

I like your post and agree with it in theory, I think the most interesting women are very multi-faceted.  It is Jade's body, and she can do with it what she chooses, however, if she's going to put herself out their, and expose every aspect of herself, in this culture, there will be backlash.  One might technically have the right to jump off a cliff, but is it the wisest decision?  If she doesn't mind the fallout, then that's one thing, but if she does, then she has to take responsibility for putting herself in that position in the first place.  She has to consider the context.  While one might like a more sexually tolerant culture, like, say, Sweden, we live here, and Rome was not built in a day, we cannot change our culture that quickly.

I also think, as you mentioned, that Jade's natural, down-to-earth appearance and demeanor really are appealing to men, but even moreso, if underneath lives a mustang...

From "Makers":

Bathroom-goers, rejoice: In cities like Seattle, Philadelphia, and West Hollywood, the lines for public bathrooms are about to get much shorter because all three cities decided to eradicate gender-specific signage for single-stall bathrooms.

It will no longer be a "brave" move to jump in line to use the solo men's room when the line for the women's stall is out the door — it'll be legal!

The Seattle City Council voted on the proposal submitted by Mayor Ed Murray. While the benefits of the signage will trickle down to everyone, its primary function was to ensure a comfortable bathroom experience for transgender people in government and Seattle business' public restrooms.

Any bets on how long it will take to apply to ALL restrooms?

It has been like that in Japan for decades.  My only objection is that unisex bathrooms smell bad compared to women only ones.
