Re: Team valmani
That was so unexpected in many ways. First of all, Val's best shot so far in terms of personalized choreography. Great song choice too. Normani took it to the next level. So far we saw the versatile, but always strong and confident performer. Now she added the vulnerability especially Julianne often requests from the celebs, and it was touching and authentic. Last not least it proved Contemporary doesn't always require pyjamas.

I love Maks, but Alan was definitely the better choice for this number. Normani killed it. Len, we have one thing in common: we're to old for her. The difference is I can still enjoy it. Normani, was your Dad ok with that routine?

I don't remember anyone wearing pajamas in their Contemporary. Are you talking about Erin and Maks dance that was set in a bedroom?

Why would he not be ok with the routine?

Sis, it was a flashback. I was referring to S19. Remember Sadie (in hot pants) and Mark doing a Western style Jazz routine including an old pickup truck? 'Was your dad ok with that routine' was exactly what Carrie Ann asked her after the dance. Couldn't help but think of that when I saw Normani in that trio.

LoL...I do remember that! And yes Wow, the girl does have a nice body!.
Val out did himself on the Contemporary dance choreography, as did Normani on interpreting it.

Re: Team valmani
I did not care for their VW. Too much 'touch myself, rub myself oooo I'm sexy' Not much in hold elegant old Viennese proper Waltz. Like I really know what that is lol.!!
Great Jazz number...really showed what a good dancer she is!!

The Jazz number was brilliant. Normani is truly a wonderful dancer - still loyal to Rashad but I appreciate her talents.

That is the best VW I've ever seen and I don't like VWs. I loved it. I loved the black and white coloring against her red dress.

I know what you mean. What a thrilling concept. As Bruno said, they turned this dance inside out but still did it justice. Scores, shmores. That got me excited.
And then the Jazz routine. I hope Maks has seen it, because little brother showed him how it's done.

Have to say I have been very favourably impressed by Val's choreographic work this season. Far and away better than last season. I still think he appears tired so it's good he isn't doing the tour. He can keep busy helping big brother get to the altar.

Re: Team valmani
Agree. He needs a rest. Spring season, Maks and Val tour, fall season, DWTS tour, spring season... But he's working his butt off for Normani. Give it to her, she's worht it.

Re: Team valmani
IMO Normani should be the winner with who's left. David should not even be there. Two of the best dancers (Heather & Simone) should have been in the top 4.

I really hope Normani brings it home. It would be kind of a consolation too if at least the best dancer wins.

Re: Team valmani
Something was missing in that fs. Only a small thing but somehow I missed that spark that has been there all along.
Were the kiddies thrown in there to promote the upcoming DWTS Junior? It was never mentioned so I dunno. Personally I thought their presence did not add anything.

Re: Team valmani
I think I got it. Normani said in the package she wanted to hand it down to the next generation. At the same time, she did it with a routine that was so stripped down and back to the good old days of ballroom- who would have expected that from her? Kudos to Val. This was the only freestyle that was actually danced. The others were just performed.

Re: Team valmani
The fact that Normani came in third after David shows how much this contest is about sports and in other instances politics, but I'm glad that Rashad won.

Popularity contest not dancing contest! IMO the best dancers were Normani, Simone & Heather.

Re: Team valmani
It's pretty much always been a popularity contest. Tom always said "Don't forget to vote for your favorites."
Nancy, David and Rashad were mine this season.

The popularity seems to veer mostly towards sports or patriotism.

Normani can't help but look beautiful. That's just how she is! N's & V's fusion dance was so far ahead of the other two - no contest really.

Re: Team valmani
There will always be a percentage of viewers that will vote with those preferences in mind, but it is going to vary. It is not a guarantee that athletes will receive most of the votes as we all know. Likability is a key factor, which we saw this season. Keyshawn Johnson had Sharna as his partner in Season 17. He failed to impress and became perhaps the only footballer so far to be eliminated in Week 1. Lolo Jones was eliminated because viewers didn't warm up to how she presented herself in Week 1.Glittersisgld wrote:The popularity seems to veer mostly towards sports or patriotism.
Rashad and David both came to DWTS representing different milestones in their careers as professional athletes--Rashad as a free agent, David as a recently-retired baseball player. It wasn't just as athletes that they succeeded on the show. It was what they brought to the table as themselves that attracted the general public and earned their votes as well. It was their likable personalities (in addition to their dancing ability) that was as much a part of their success.
