Re: DWTS Season 21 - Week 8
Here's what ABC's press release has to say:
Dancing with the Stars puts even more power in America's hands during Season 21's Week 8 on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2 at 8|7 on ABC. After performances that honor influential figures in the celebrities' lives, the couple with the highest score earns immunity from next week's elimination. Then for the first time ever on the show, each of the six couples that do not receive immunity will then be paired up to compete in a head-to-head dance-off to be voted on by America in real-time on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and the three judges. The couple with the majority of the four potential votes from each dance-off will earn an extra two points, increasing their overall score. At the end of the night, one couple will face elimination.
ABC also has Tamar dancing to Born This Way by Lady Gaga. PureDWTS has them dancing to the same song that Nick and Sharna are using, which is unlikely.
I'm hopeful that when they say you can vote on ABC.com, they mean you can actually vote on the website and not have to still have a Twitter account. Also hope that if you can vote on their website, it can handle the traffic and doesn't crash!

I'm afraid the voting for the head-to-head is going to be twitter again which eliminates me from voting and everyone else that doesn't have a twitter account. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

You could be right, SLA. I'm on ABC's website right now, and all it says is 'stay tuned.' Can't tell whether I'll actually be able to vote there or not.

Re: DWTS Season 21 - Week 8
Erin is back! I know a lot of folks don't like her, but I enjoy her, and she's looking quite lovely tonight. I really like her hair like that.
Carlos/Witney - I thought this was okay. I'm not sure quite what seemed off a bit. But I enjoyed it, and I thought he did a nice job with the lifts, although that one lift where she kind of jumped over his head seemed like it didn't go quite right. They covered it well, though. I probably would have given it 8s and maybe one 9.
Alek/Witney - This was okay as well. It had to overcome two things - I'm not a fan of either contemporary on this show or Chris Kyle. :\ He handled most of the lifts pretty well, and he did the steps okay. The choreography didn't wow me. But it wasn't bad. The scores seemed fair.
Andy/Allison - Another one that was just okay for me. It was a lovely song and story, but the execution left something to be desired. I blame Allison for that. Scores may have been a little bit low, but I can't really argue with them, even though I do generally like Andy.
Alexa/Mark - This was the first dance that I really liked, but that may be at least in part because I love that Coldplay song. It's one of my all-time favorites. Anyway, I enjoyed the choreography, and I thought Alexa had great intensity. There were a couple of little glitches, but she recovered from them well. I thought she looked great in that costume. My favorite dance to that point. Really nice job. I think I would have given her another 9. It was good overall.
Nick/Sharna - This was a really pretty dance. Still not crazy about contemporary, but I thought this one was nice. I thought Nick handled the lifts very well, he was very smooth, and it had beautiful flow to it. I'm not sure I would have scored it a perfect 30, but it was very well done. And congratulations to Nick and his wife!
Bindi/Derek - This was a lot of fun. I don't think it was her best dance, but I enjoyed it a lot. And I admit I was surprised to find that her icon was Grace Kelly. I wouldn't have expected Bindi to know who Grace Kelly was. Overall, a good effort that was well done and quite enjoyable.
Tamar/Val - Another dance I really liked. Tamar is a terrific dancer. I loved Val's choreography; I'm so glad DWTS seems to be bringing back the paso doble after a couple of years where it was practically nonexistent. Good scores for her, and she deserved them. I just hope it's not a case of too little too late. She should have gotten that kind of a score last week.
Dance-Offs:
I can't believe I can actually take part this time. Usually they do the Twitter voting, which leaves me out, but this time I can take part!! Yay!
Bindi/Derek vs. Carlos/Witney - I'm a bit surprised to say it, but I liked Carlos better than Bindi in this one. They were both good, but I thought Carlos was more crisp and precise than Bindi.
Tamar/Val vs. Alexa/Mark - I thought they were pretty close, but overall I thought Tamar did the better job. I just think she moved better than Alexa. I guess I don't understand how the voting works. The judges liked Carlos better but the audience liked Bindi better, but Carlos won. Two out of three judges liked Tamar better but the audience liked Alexa better so Alexa wins?
Alek/Lindsay vs. Andy/Allison - Okay, I didn't think either of these were that good. I didn't vote on this one because I didn't really like either of them. Lindsey seemed to go more for lifts so Alek didn't have to dance; Allison had Andy do more actual dancing.
So happy Tamar is safe. I was afraid she was going to be a surprise boot. Did not expect Alek to be safe. I was thinking it was maybe his time to go home. Glad Alexa is safe. Andy was the other one I thought might be going home. He seems like a really nice guy.
Carlos/Witney - I thought this was okay. I'm not sure quite what seemed off a bit. Re: DWTS Season 21 - Week 8
mustang, I didn't understand how the outcome differed in the team dance, so I'm assuming Erin misspoke.
Allison had me annoyed. She spent way too much time working on her featured twists and spins and it looked like too little time or attention went to Andy's movement. She's a lousy teacher. Once again, it was back to the "Allison Show."
The evening is, by now, a blur. But Nick's emotional rendition stands out as touching and well-performed.
Oh. My. Word. Could you believe Bindi's feet???? How does one dance like that??? And I wish they'd left out the little blurb of Alek tossing a chair. But I'm glad they showed Val's displeasure with Tamar's packages.

Re: DWTS Season 21 - Week 8
Singly - a poster on another board said that the audience vote counted when the judges were split. So even though the judges were 2-1 in favor of Tamar in the dance-off, the audience vote for Alexa gave them the win. It was a stupid gimmick. There are 3 judges and 2 couples, so there would never ever be a "tie" in the judges' vote. I don't see why 2/3 of the judges' votes don't count for a win, but it was another ill-conceived misstep by TPTB who seem determined to show how "hip" or something they are.
Anyway, I agree about Allison. I'm sorry to see Andy go - I think he had potential that never got tapped because of Allison's inability to teach. Presumably she will NOT be a pro on the spring show because of the baby. At least I hope not. Maybe they'll re-think having her as a pro after a season off. Honestly, I hope they re-think Keo as a pro as well. He seems like a nice guy, and he's a fabulous dancer, but he doesn't strike me as a good teacher. All of his celebs have seemed to have trouble remembering their routines, and I don't think that can be a coincidence.
I also agree that Nick's performance was memorable as were for me both Tamar's and Alexa's, even though hers was flawed. I just think she looked fantastic in that outfit and danced pretty well (couple of mistakes aside).
I apparently missed Alek throwing a chair. And I agree about showing Val upset with Tamar's packages. It's nice to see the pros defend their celebs when it's warranted. Bindi's feet . . . unbelievable. I don't know how she can stand, let alone walk. I also don't understand why her feet are in such terrible shape. She's young, and she's athletic. Something seems not right there. Ill-fitting shoes? That was just awful. I feel bad for her.

Re: DWTS Season 21 - Week 8
I remember reading an article or seeing an interview a couple of years ago where it was said that toes falling off, and blisters can happen. If a person is not use to wearing heels, they will do some heavy damage to your feet, especially under these circumstances.
Speaking of Bindi, has anyone read the article about the judge who threw out her DWTS contract because he wants proof that her dad is illegally dead. Just when you think you've heard it all. HA! I wonder who the judge has been voting for.

A court judge threw out her contract? Is this story a scam? First, why would a court judge be looking at her contract unless she was contesting some clause? What kind of proof does he need? A decaying corpse?
Is this a joke???? In this day and age, it's difficult to tell.

Re: DWTS Season 21 - Week 8
It is not a joke. At least not intentionally anyway. Clearly the judge who lives under a rock and didn't hear about Steve Irwin's death is an unintentional joke, though.
Because Bindi is a minor, her contract must be approved by a judge. That's standard. In order for a minor to be paid directly, his or her parents must sign a quitclaim relinquishing their rights as guardians to any money she earns. Her mother has signed the quitclaim. The judge wants proof that her father is really dead. No joke. He must be the only person on the planet who doesn't know that and how Steve Irwin died.
It should be an easy thing to fix. Her lawyers should easily be able to provide the judge with a copy of the death certificate. It's just the sheer idiocy of the whole situation.

No it's not a joke and how the judge is not aware of her father's death is beyond me. That judge should really be embarrassed with all the publicity that is going around about his/her request.

Re: DWTS Season 21 - Week 8
Regarding this contract mix up, I think some of the onus should be on Bindi's mother. A contract is a legal document and ALL the requirements must be fulfilled. Terri should have made absolutely sure of just what was legally required. I imagine the judge was well aware of Steve Irwin's demise but the death certificate is required by law and if it is missing the contract is rejected.
My mother in law is recently deceased and we had to present a certified copy of her death certificate innumerable times. In one instance we sent an uncertified copy by mistake and it was rejected. The law may be thought idiotic but it is the law and there is no use blaming an officer of the court for upholding it.

I agree that the judge must follow the law to the letter and you are correct that Bindi's mother should have made sure all the required documents were presented to fulfill the the contract. It's too bad that SM has made this sound like such a frivolous and silly request by the judge.Lesallee wrote:Regarding this contract mix up, I think some of the onus should be on Bindi's mother. Re: DWTS Season 21 - Week 8
Exactly, SLA. My late mother in law lived her whole life in the small community in which she died. Every single person in the bank she dealt with knew her, several attended her funeral and certainly were well aware that she had passed away. Nevertheless, before my husband, as executor of the estate could proceed with any legal matters he had to present the bank with a certified copy of her death certificate.SLA44 wrote:I agree that the judge must follow the law to the letter and you are correct that Bindi's mother should have made sure all the required documents were presented to fulfill the the contract. It may have been an oversight on Terri Irwin's part but that was not the judge's fault who had no choice in law but to reject the contract. I would imagine they will get it sorted out quite speedily and that will be that.

Re: DWTS Season 21 - Week 8
Who is SM, SLA?
Well, it's not as though Steve died just yesterday, last week, or even last year. Terri has been signing contracts for Bindi over the last ten years, so this is not new for her. If death certificates were required for previous contracts, don't you think that she would have provided one for this contract? With this in mind, my guess would be that she didn't need one for the other contracts, therefore, didn't know that it was required here. It seems to me that the lawyers should have made sure everything handled properly. Plus, the judge should have handled it more discretely.

SM I thought was the abbreviation for Social Media - I probably should have said all of these entertainment news shows and sites. Sorry for the confusion!
You do bring up a good point about the death certificate not being required for other contracts especially the ones in Australia and the lawyers should have made it clear to Bindi's mother that it was required here.

LOL. I'm glad it wasn't me who made it a big deal!
Even after this explanation, however, I don't understand why Steve Irwin's signature would have been necessary anyway. I would have assumed one parent's consent would have been enough.
If any of you have legal minds, consider this: My teen granddaughter was privately adopted, at which time the hospital put my daughter's and SIL's name on the birth certificate they issued. Now, my granddaughter needs a passport. They won't issue one based on the hospital certificate, but need the original. The online form won't allow anyone but the natural mother to request it. So...how are people who adopt by normal process expected to acquire the original (when they don't know the birth mother's name)? If there's a known solution among you, please explain.

Steve Irwin's signature was not requested, singly. The law requires proof of death in the form of a certified copy of the death certificate which the Irwin team did not provide. In legal matters all the t's must be crossed and the i's dotted.singlyme wrote:LOL. I'm glad it wasn't me who made it a big deal!

The adoption issue is a real puzzler. I can only speak from the Canadian perspective but here hospitals do not issue birth certificates. Rather the child must be registered and the government issues the birth certificate. When the child is an adoptee the adoptive parents names are on the certificate. They of course, must provide all proof that the adoption is legal and final and that becomes the legal and true birth certificate. I would think American law is similar.
It almost sounds as though your granddaughter will need to consult an attorney to assist.
