Re: Previews
Thanks, Bach, for posting those videos. Looks like this program will be wild, as we've come to expect.
CH is right; Puerto Vallarta is a lovely part of Mexico. We were there a couple of years ago. The town is clean and has a lot of nice restaurants and shops. The resort was super and the beach is beautiful.

I'm not willing to make changes to my browser, so I guess I have to pass. I'd love to see the previews but the video is white-out. All I get are voices. Phooey.

Oh, well. Too bad you don't live near me. I am actually a state qualified Informational Technology Technician. (I passed the state technical exam, so I am a pretty good computer guy, capable of fixing most common computer issues.) I probably could have upgraded your computer software and hardware easily.singlyme wrote:I'm not willing to make changes to my browser, so I guess I have to pass. Out of curiosity, what kind of computer, operating system, and browser are you using? There is a major Windows operating system upgrade coming up at the end of this month (Windows 10). If you do it right, you can upgrade to the new system for free.

Re: Previews
I have not been able to log onto ABC's The Bachelorette board since last night. All I got is a "Hey, you look familiar" message when I try to logon and the sign-in link has disappeared, making it impossible to sign in. Whoever designed that board has failed in a major way. I think they should hire me to straighten things out for them. At least this board works.

Re: Previews
Bach -- I've had problems with the ABC boards ever since they changed over to the new format. I can get "in" but I cannot reply or post. Someone said it was because I had spaces in my screen name, but I could not get anyone to help me change it to what appears to be a new requirement. So I gave up and just lurk over there once in a while. Frankly, most of the "good old posters" are gone anyhow.

Re: Previews
bach, I have Vista and Explorer. Don't ask what version of Explorer. I have no idea. I'm averse to change in something I'm familiar with.
For many years, I was a whiz with Word Perfect - absolutely loved how it worked and seldom had to take my fingers off the keyboard since I knew all the shortcut keys. THEN, when I moved back north, employers were using Word. I HATE it. The "Works" word processing that came with Vista was similar to WP but is now obsolete. I downloaded Apache Open Office and find it similar to what I recall of Word. I'm not fond of it, either. I loved my XP. It, too, now is gone.
Why is it when something works beautifully, they have to upgrade to something that won't do what it once did, or takes extra steps to do what you once did in one. Oh...yes...$$$ for a new and "improved" product. *sigh*
This computer is a Dell and likely on its last legs. I shudder to think what I'll be dealing with (in terms of adjustment and adaptation) when I'm forced to replace it. I find all the new technology not only over my head but "overboard" in terms of extravagance of features. I wish there were a way to remove all the features I don't use in order to avoid confusion. For me, it's like opening a box full of nuts, screws and extra parts with no idea what you're building - and no instructions.

Re: Previews
newto -- I don't understand why ABC does not use a standard free open source phpBB message board like what we are using here. (vBulletin is good too, but it costs money) There is no need to reinvent the wheel, especially when the wheel ABC created is pretty square.

I enabled Facebook login and twitter functions in the hope that it'll make the board more user-friendly. Hope that is OK.

Re: Previews
singly -- They mainly upgrade for the purpose of making money. Some of the old applications work just fine, but the big companies force you to upgrade by stopping support, changing the operating system, and making the old software obsolete. I like Word Perfect. I wrote my entire MA thesis using Word Perfect in college. Then my computer got too old and stopped working. So I had to buy a new computer and, of course, Word Perfect won't work on the new machine. So I have to use Microsoft Word instead as a word processor.
I don't really like Vista. I have a Pentium 4 Dell machine that runs XP and it still works. I can get online on that PC just fine, although the likelihood of getting viruses on that machine is high, since Microsoft stopped XP support. I upgraded an old iMac that I bought from eBay and it works as well as a new machine plus more disk space and memory. The good thing is that it costs less than half of a new iMac with a similar size hard drive and memory. Since I know how to upgrade computers myself, I see no point in buying brand new computers that don't work any better than spruced up old computers that cost a lot less.
One thing I do suggest though is to have at least two browsers and two administrative accounts on a computer. Machines and software inevitably will fail and when that happens you'll have another browser and account that work. This will enable you to get on your computer and download and reinstall the failed browser (and/or create a new account). I never use Microsoft Explorer to get online. It does not perform well at all. I usually use Chrome and Firefox (Firefox is open source, therefore more trustworthy).
When you buy a new PC, make sure it has at least an Intel Core i7 processor (preferably 5th generation) and 8GB of memory (the more memory the better). Microsoft will upgrade Windows operating system from 8 to Windows 10 at the end of this month. So you might want to wait until the new PCs all come with Windows 10, which can happen some time in August or September.
As for Microsoft Word, I usually pay a one-time $140 fee to own the software instead of paying $7-$10 per month to Microsoft forever. (The one on the right side of the three choices in the following link.)

Thanks for the info, bach - though I couldn't make heads nor tails of the website you reference. Office-Home? Ah, I just can't get into it right now. My head is in my remodeling of my bathroom. It's difficult to concentrate on anything else. lol.
I can always refer back to this page (if I remember where I left it.)

Office-Home contains Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and some other programs. It is a software suite sold by Microsoft.singlyme wrote:Thanks for the info, bach - though I couldn't make heads nor tails of the website you reference. Office-Home? Here is a video I found today. It has a mixture of Bachelor/ette and BIP people but I put it on this thread because I think the best part of it was when Lacy said her and Marcus got married, which some of us already knew, but I thought what else she said about why Marcus wasn't there was pretty special.
****the first video is of Kaitlyn and Shawn on GMA...the one at the bottom is the video I am referring to.

Trailer (Aug.1 update: This video is disabled by ABC either on purpose or their video service isn't working either, like their message boards.)

I finally realized who that chick was that was standing there with some guy and she is saying, "we're married'...it's Mackenzie from Chris Soules season. The young mother that kept talking about aliens. They are really scraping the bottom of the barrel, aren't they?

Re: Previews
Thanks for the additional Videos Bach. I am anxious to see Marcus and Lacy's wedding. He is one of the few that I liked when I first saw him and still like to this day. Since I did not watch Kaitlyn's season I am not familiar with a lot of the guys for this season of BIP.
It does look like Tenley is going to take the place that Michelle Money filled in the first BIP and to some extent in BP. Does anyone know if she is still with Cody (I think that was his name)?
