Dancing with the Stars is bringing back Disney Night! Week 5 will see the nine remaining couples each dance to a song from a classic Disney film, just like they did in season 18. Some of the couples will be dancing to the same Disney films from last time, though they have different songs. And others get brand new Disney films likeLady and the TrampPinocchio and, oddly enough, Pirates of the Caribbean.

Here's a look at the nine Disney movies and songs they couples will dance to:

-Rumer Willis partnered with Val Chmerkovskiy: "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from The Little Mermaid  (this doesn't say what dance they will be doing though)

Waltz
-Patti LaBelle and Artem Chigvintsev: "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Pinocchio

Viennese Waltz
-Willow Shields and Mark Ballas: "Alice's Theme" from Alice in Wonderland

Paso Doble
-Riker Lynch and Allison Holker: "He's a Pirate" from Pirates of the Caribbean

Foxtrot
-Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess: "A Whole New World" from Aladdin

Jazz
-Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough: "Love Is an Open Door" from Frozen
-Suzanne Somers and Tony Dovolani: "He's a Tramp" from Lady and the Tramp

Quickstep
-Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson: "Step in Time" from Mary Poppins
-Chris Soules and Witney Carson: "Zero to Hero" from Hercules

If you remember Disney Night from Dancing with the Stars season 18, you'll notice some similarities. Drew Carey danced to Aladdin, Charlie White danced to Mary Poppins, Danica McKellar did Beauty and the Beast, Candace Cameron Bure went "Under the Sea" with The Little Mermaid and James Maslow earned a perfect score for his Frozen Contemporary routine.

Season 18's Disney Night also featured four of my favorite routines from the entire season. Not only were James, Danica and Charlie superb, but Nene Leakes was at her absolute best as Cruella de Vil.

As for this season, I don't really care about Hercules, Pinocchio or Lady and the Tramp, which is fine since the three worst dancers got stuck with those films. Riker Lynch's energy should fit right in as a pirate. Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough could have a whole lot of fun with their silly Frozen song.

Alice in Wonderland fits right in with Mark Ballas' wacky aesthetic for this season (I'd put money on him playing the Cheshire Cat or the Mad Hatter to Willow's Alice). But I'm most excited for Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy because it is great to dance to a villain's song (and Ursula's is one of the best ever).

Are you excited to see these Disney songs come to life? See all of the performances on Dancing with the Stars Monday, April 13 at 8pm on ABC

Season 20 - Week 5 Empty Re: Season 20 - Week 5

I read elsewhere that Rumer and Val will be doing a samba.  Granted, it's been a while since I watched "The Little Mermaid," and I only vaguely remember that song, but unless my memory is way off, I do not see how in the world that is a decent samba song.  It is simply not upbeat enough.

Season 20 - Week 5 Empty Re: Season 20 - Week 5

Maybe I just don't like Disney week??  The only performance I felt suited the theme was the one by Derek and Nastia.  That romantic piece of fluff was adorable.

I thought the music for both Riker and Rumer didn't suit the assigned dances.  Judging by the ABC board, I'm in a minority of one.  lol.

And Mark - er, Willow...  *groan*  I can't take his production numbers seriously.  Before the music starts, I'm already annoyed.  That being said, his makeup was worthy of a FACE OFF contestant.

Our Bach, Chris, showed his ass.  He was on the bottom this week.  After his rehearsal "performance," I think he's sealed his fate.  He seems frustrated.  Perhaps it would be better to just cash in his chips and take Whitney home to begin his new life.

Did anyone else note the flash on the screen before the final three?  WE SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST.  Rude?

A dissatisfying week.

Season 20 - Week 5 Empty Re: Season 20 - Week 5

I thought the stress on both Chris and Whitney's faces showed he is ready to pack it in and go home.  DWTS is more than either of them bargained for.

Yes, I did notice that flash on the screen.  You're right, Singly, rude, but, unfortunately, true.

I too thought it was a dissatisfying two hours.

Season 20 - Week 5 Empty Re: Season 20 - Week 5

I guess I'm in the minority then because I really enjoyed Disney night just as I did the last time they did it.  Yeah, they go a bit over the top, but at least during this theme night, it fits and feels right.  Smile

It didn't bother me with the 'saved the best for last' but probably because I assumed they meant in terms of those three movies being among Disney's biggest.  Frozen is still a huge hit after 2 years; Little Mermaid is on Broadway now, and Pirates has been a blockbuster for them.

Anyway, I felt bad for Robert - he did struggle a bit with that but I don't think he was as bad as his scores would indicate.  He was better than Chris, but I think they scored Chris higher.  Chris can go.  Didn't care for his little pity party nor for the way he snapped at Witney.  Not acceptable.  Suzanne and Noah also had the same struggle this week, but neither one resorted to snapping at their pro.  Glad to see Suzanne go.  If she hadn't gone this week, her 'I should quit' attitude would have certainly gotten her booted next week anyway.  Enjoyed Patti as always.  She and Artem make a good team, and I love her attitude and how she refuses to complain about her knee.  She can stay a while - Chris and Noah at least need to leave before she does.  Noah did a good job, and I feel mean saying it, but he just can't do enough actual dancing to stay too much longer.  There were whole segments where the camera was just on Sharna.  I assume it was because Noah needed help getting off the 'flying carpet' and getting down the stairs, but it stuck out.  But he seems like a good guy.  Next week is going to be really hard, though, with the team dances.  Whichever team gets him is going to be at a disadvantage trying to choreograph around his limitations.

Mark makes for one scary rabbit, but I thought the dance was more successful this week than last week's big production number.  At least Willow wasn't getting lost in the shuffle.  This was the most personality Nastia has shown, and I enjoyed the routine but it seemed to be a pretty close approximation of the scene from the movie, so it didn't seem like much of an effort choreography-wise.

I thought Riker did a pretty good approximation of Capt. Jack, and I liked the paso pretty well, although I thought Allison was going to hurt herself, she was hitting every move so hard.  And that one wild move made me think she was going to go flying into the audience.  But it was fun and energetic.

I loved Rumer's turn as Ursula as well, and that make-up job on Val was amazing.  Really liked his choreography too.  And I thought she danced it very well.

So all in all, I had fun.  I like this a whole lot more than 'sob story' . . . I mean "Most Memorable Year" week.

Season 20 - Week 5 Empty Re: Season 20 - Week 5

Post by rkc1960 Tue Apr 14, 2015 11:24 pm

Call me a kid at heart but I like Disney Week too. That's the week that all the over production is appropriate.

Robert may have flubbed some steps but all in all I enjoyed his performance very much and he did it with so much enthusiasm. I liked it better than a few others that got 7's instead of the 6's given to him.

Suzanne's leg work was nice in the beginning but after she got her shoe caught in her dress she seemed to lose focus and there was a part she seemed to forget what she was supposed to be doing and the judges didn't seem to take off for that.

Patti LaBelle's dance was nice. Don't think there was much that could have gone wrong with that dance.

Chris was Okay. It probably was one of his best dances but that doesn't say too much at this point.

Willow's was interesting but I just liked their dance better last week. I guess partially because Mark's costume this week kind of freaked me out.

I like Noah. I know he has limitations but he just inspires me so much that I don't want to find any fault with him.

I'm just glad that Rumor got her much deserved 10's this week. She is so good and I just felt in past weeks that they were underscoring her.

Riker's portrayal of Jack Sparrow was so spot on. I knew the dance would be fierce because every time they play that music in the Pirate's of the Caribbean it's usually during a fierce scene of some sort. He really upped the ante this week if he can keep it up.

Nastia's was good and it was nice to see her smile a little and seem to enjoy herself this week. As someone pointed out, it was too much like the scene from the movie which didn't take too much to choreograph. I guess Derek has been to busy doing other things to come up with any new ideas.

I think the right person went home this week and unless something unforeseen happens I'm guessing Chris and Patti will be the next ones to leave. I'm wondering if that little rehearsal spat with Chris and Witney was exaggerated a bit to make an excuse to bring Alfonso into their practices. Even if the comment Chris made to her was a real moment then why did they air it unless they wanted to bring Alfonso in?

Season 20 - Week 5 Empty Re: Season 20 - Week 5

rkc, I'm always curious as to why TPTB choose to air certain clips.  There's no doubt some of these scenes either warm or alienate the audience toward selected contestants.  It is, indeed, a way of manipulating viewer sentiments and how they vote.

Look at the footage they showed of Charlotte on her phone.  Or the past guy who had a simultaneous book tour going on.  When contestants appear to view DWTS as second-fiddle to whatever else they've got going, it's a sure bet they lose votes.

I'm not particularly fond of Chris and given that he's newly engaged, it represented to me how he handles himself when he's frustrated.  Look out, Whitney.

Whether or not they showed him snapping to bring Alfonso on, I don't know.  But, for sure, it put Chris in a bad light.

Season 20 - Week 5 Empty Re: Season 20 - Week 5

Post by singlyme Wed Apr 15, 2015 7:37 am

mustang, it didn't occur to me they were referring to the three best movies, rather than the three best dancers.  Since the last three dancers were the best of the pack, I assumed it meant them.

And I agree about Noah.  He's graceful out the wazoo.  And he's adaptable.  He's ripped and good-looking.  But the lack of knee flexibility is a true detriment to his ability to go much further.

I think it'll be Chris to go next.  Then Patti.  It's a toss-up between Noah and Robert.  Inspiration vs. joy.  OR they might surprise us and throw Willow away.  Regardless of how it happens, the show is worth watching to see Nastia, Rumer and Riker.

Season 20 - Week 5 Empty Re: Season 20 - Week 5

Post by LadyMustang65 Wed Apr 15, 2015 12:47 pm

You could be right, and I could be wrong, of course.  I may be giving TPTB too much credit for not being that rude.

I hope you're right, and Chris goes next.  He's really the only one left that I just don't care for.  I mean I haven't really connected with Nastia, but at least she's a gorgeous dancer.  Chris doesn't have that going for him.  And Witney doesn't seem like she's having fun with him either.  They both seem a little frustrated and maybe 'checked out' at this point.  Cut him loose and let her have some fun dancing with the troupe.

After Chris, though, I'm not sure what order they'll go out in.  Patti may outlast Robert, Noah and Willow.  She's not doing that much dancing, but (a) she's a legend and people will vote for her just because she's Patti LaBelle, (b) she has a great personality and a wonderful attitude that a lot of viewers probably appreciate, (c) she's graceful and rhythmic at least so it's not awful to watch and (d) this is DWTS so who knows?

I'll be shocked if Riker, Rumer or Nastia leave before the final 3, but I have no clue who the 4th one will be.  I really think that spot is up for grabs right now.
