Episode 3 Discussion ParadiseBACHELOR IN PARADISE
RECAP FOR AUGUST 18, 2014

Hello, and welcome to Bachelor in Paradise on ABC. Tonight is week three of this romantic adventure for our show alumni. What will happen this week? Who will arrive this week for a chance to find love? Wr are about to find out!

We open with the aftermath of the rose ceremony. Apparently, this is the Elise is Crazy hour. She says Dylan isn't ready for a relationship with her and it seems as if people are not happy with her behavior regarding him and Chris. She wants him to be her rainbow. I look for a trash can to vomit in. If I ever ask a guy to be my rainbow, please, just kill me.

Michelle wants to talk to Marquel and clear the air after their discussion the night before. she thinks he could be the one for her.

Danielle from Juan Pablo's season is there with a date card. The only thing I remember about her is that she had really cool hair. She kind of reminds me of Amber from this season of Big Brother. She isn't sure who to take because she doesn't want to overstep her boundaries. In the end, she chooses Marquel, much to Michelle's chagrin.

The next day, Danielle and Marquel go on their date while everyone else chats about their relationships with people in the house.  Basically, it is a lot of whining, so I check out a bit.

Elise gets a date card and takes Chris on a date. AshLee is mad she doesn't have a date. Lacy thinks she needs to chill.

Chris injures his knee as he is getting ready for his date. The medics are called and we are left wondering what will happen.

Back to the Danielle/Marquel date. She has a crush on him and he hopes they get to know one another a bit better. They get caught in a storm, which is quite scary.

As everyone is hanging out, people are talking crap about Chris. He goes on his date with Elise, but it is obvious he is very injured and struggling to get through everything. Apparently, they also have an overnight date. He is a prince, she wants to spend her life with him, he will be blessed to be with her. OMG in heaven…they get an overnight card and spend some 'quality' time together, but he keeps complaining his knee hurts.

Michelle and Clare decide to have a double date with Robert and Zach. The rest of the house is not happy with this plan, especially Sarah.  She feels inferior to the other girls and that she is not good enough for Robert.

Michelle practically throws herself on Robert, which only makes Sarah feel worse.

Everyone returns from their dates (minus Chris and Elise) and it seems like Michelle and Robert are getting closer and Danielle has a connection with Marquel.

We have another arrival!  It is Jackie from Sean's season. The girls are jealous because she is so hot and the guys are immediately smitten.  She decides to take Marquel on the date.
Danielle is NOT happy about this turn of events.

I swear, this drama is getting on my nerves. I can barely keep up with who is mad at whom and why or who is jealous of what relationship.

AshLee gets her date card and asks Graham out.

Lacy and Marcus make out in the water.

AshLee and Danielle have a heart to heart about their situations in the house. They want the feelings they have for their guys to be mutual. They agree the roses are in the guy's courts.

Jackie and Marquel seem to hit it off and they declare this the best date ever. She kind of reminds me of Six from Blossom. I love how he is a gentleman and asks if he can kiss her.

Chris is in the hospital and it turns out he is more injured than he thought. Elise takes care of him and even makes him soup. It is actually kind of sweet and she is right, stuff like this happens in real life.

Clare misses her family. It is the anniversary of her father's death, so she is really upset. Zach comforts her and….yeah.

AshLee and Graham go on their date. Honey, never admit you social media stalk a guy. EVER. Never say you are obsessed. I am so embarrassed for this girl. They spend time together, she dances with him, or more accurately FOR him, but at the end of the night, they decide to not spend the night together.

Before the rose ceremony, everyone chats as the girls try to prove they are worthy of a rose.

Rose ceremony:

Graham gives a rose to AshLee.

Zach gives a rose with Clare.

Marcus gives a rose to Lacy.

Marquel gives a rose to Jackie.

Robert gives a rose to Sarah.

Chris B. says he can't give a rose to Elise because he is going to be leaving the show. They decide to leave together. He gives the rose to Michelle.

Danielle is eliminated.

I was totally shocked by Chris B.'s gesture in giving the rose to Michelle.  Didn't seem like something he would think up himself.  Perhaps his meeting up with Elise has changed him somewhat; who knows?  He must have fallen hard for her.

In any case, will be happy if it works out for him and Elise.  Perhaps he will mellow some more and they can have a happy relationship.

I must say that last night gave me quite a few chuckles. Between Elise's "over the rainbow" dialogue in that little girl wonderland voice and Chris' gritching over his knee, it was pretty funny.  As for his giving Michelle the rose, what else could the producers come up with to keep her?

Marquel reminded me of a kid in a candy store who couldn't decide what he wanted. For some reason, I'm seeing something a little "off" with him. Naive or practiced? Can't decide.

And I can't look at Lacy's smile without flashing to Vienna.

I'm loving how Graham keeps pumping Ashlee's brakes. Also amusing.  It's surprising that we're not seeing any flack over Michelle and Graham's private beach walk&talks.

All in all, I find myself indifferent. I think it began with Ben's season. Since then, I haven't felt involved with anyone on the screen.  I believe, for me, this entire franchise has become more an exercise in "How much do they expect us to swallow?"

Am sure Ashlee knows that Michelle and Graham were once an "item."  They seem to have become just good friends and are able to share things with each other.  Ashlee better not let the big green monster take over if she wants any type of relationship with Graham, which I don't think is going to happen anyhow.  JMHO.

I've always regarded these Bach/ette shows as two hours of mindless entertainment.  I do get "involved" sometimes while the show is on, especially with certain leads, but when the show is over I don't obsess over who, what, and when.  Too much going on in RL.

I agree, newto.  I remember the days when I first watched (Jason's season.)  I got invested in the players and bought into the "reality" of what happened.  * chuckle *  I guess we've all gotten wise to the playbook.

The audience already knows Graham isn't going to end up with this loon, so it must be under producer-encouragement he's keeping her.  I suspect those same producers advised Chris to give Michelle a rose when it threw the ratio of men to women off balance.

I much preferred those days when one could believe that truth played any part in these shows.

Thank you SLA for the video of AfterBuzzTV. It was interesting to see Graham's take on the things he COULD talk about. At least we know that whatever that preview was for next week that it isn't all hype because Graham even said that next week is a real blow up.

Anyway, on to what happened this week. I hope Elise has a thick skin because she has looked like such a dizzy blonde and I don't think that is all an edit. I don't like blonde jokes because I am blonde but THAT is the type of blonde that gives us all a bad name. She is obviously in love with the idea of being in love. I think she bit off more than she could chew with Chris B. Has she not watched him in the past? She thinks HE could be her "rainbow"? Oh My! Now, Graham did say in the above video that he gives props to Chris B. for trying to make a go with Elise because Graham isn't too fond of her from how she treated Dylan before he left....however, when you have them out on a date and she is talking like she wants a relationship and all he is saying is that he wants to go to a room and get down to business...well...I can't give props to him for being a slime ball. I personally believe he asked her to leave with him because he wanted to drain her dry and move on to his next conquest and he wouldn't have that chance if he left her there to fall in love with another dude in the next 5 minutes. I also believe him giving the rose to Michelle was producer driven. After all they needed the right amount of women and they would be one short if he didn't do that.

I don't know how convinced I am that Jackie wanted to take Marquel on her date. She came in and picked someone that didn't look paired up and Marquel was the only one that wasn't sitting next to a girl.....especially since as soon as she was looking around ready to choose, some of the other girls at that point practically molested their guys so she was aware they had marked their territory. I don't think he would go wrong with Danielle or Jackie but I think he would be the one getting the better bargain....them, eh. Jury is still out on that one. I still think he dresses funny and plays with cookies but I also don't like that he thinks he had the right to tell Michelle she drinks too much.

I feel bad for Sara. I think she is so used to being rejected due to her disability that I don't think she see's her real worth. If she is going to participate in a show such as this she needs to become more assertive and not just sit back and let people come to her. I think she would feel more confident if she wore a prosthesis because they make them so life like anymore. I don't know, maybe she tried one before and it didn't work out but if she hasn't I just think it might change her outlook a little. If not, I think she would do better finding someone away from these.

AshLee finally gets her one on one date with Graham. Girlfriend really wanted to stay in one room I'm sure but I'm glad he opted for separate rooms....now she can't say later something happened that didn't. lol. What was up with that butt wiggle dance up close and personal? TMI....Graham missed his opportunity to just give his rose to someone else and then she'd be gone and out of his hair. That is until maybe next week? Hmmmmm....

Post by rkc1960 Wed Aug 20, 2014 8:03 pm

LOL...found this much to my amusement. This is quotes from Chris and Elise's date. This just shows how far off they are....

How "cute" was that ending to tonight's Bachelor in Paradise? After injuring his knee in three different bad-sounding ways, Chris decided that he was going to leave the show and head home. However, he invited Elise to go with him, meaning he could give his rose to Michelle so she wouldn't be eliminated.
That part was cute, but the days (hours? We don't understand the passage of time on this show.) leading up to that rose ceremony basically amounted to an entire distorted Disney movie, or a doomed Shakespearean play. Their love affair has been a semi-romantic disaster that has been truly exhilarating to watch, and we will miss them. Here are 14 quotes that prove this couple is made for each other (or not). Try to guess who said what!

1. "Sometimes there's a storm just to get to that beautiful rainbow, and Chris and I can make a beautiful rainbow together. I am so positive right now that nothing could ruin that."

2. "I messed up my knee pretty bad, but it's a night date, so stuff could happen. And she's beautiful, and she has a banging body. She's hot, overall, super hot."

 3. "Chris is the perfect prince charming to take me on my first one-on-one. I could not be more happy."

4. "I'm in agony because of my knee, but she's super hot, and I just want to spend the night together."

 5. "Obviously I'm not gonna rush anything. We need to take it slow. Even though I really want something, I can't just let it… you know?"

6. "Elise is extremely sexy. That color is perfect on her. This girl is unbelievable."

7. "Chris means to me hope. Hope that it's worth the wait, it's worth going through pain, and just all this nonsense with mixed signals and guys who aren't ready, and he's so the opposite of that and he's a man who's ready, who knows what he wants, isn't afraid to fight for it, is confident in fighting for it, and doesn't look back."

8. "I really want to, you know, share a room."

9. "I'm definitely bummed that Chris injured his knee, but I'm not going to let anything get in the way of this amazing adventure."

10. "My knee is definitely in pain, but I want to enjoy her behind closed doors. I'll make it happen."

11. "You will be blessed for being so sweet to me. You will be so blessed."

12. "I like to talk, and I feel like I'm doing a lot more listening than talking, which is fine, but I'm ready to get down and dirty."

 13. "I came to paradise to find, not just a boyfriend, not just a companion, but I wanted to find my soulmate."

 14. "Oh! My knee hurts."

Dylan who, right?

Rkc I think you got it right with Elise being in love with being in love.  Holy cow how quickly she could go from Dylan to Chris B. and rainbow my fanny on that one.  She needs to get her head out of the sky because she is clearly not thinking like a mature adult here.

AshLee's fanny dance was ridiculous IMO and I wonder what she thought when she saw what it looked like on TV.  How silly of me, I'm sure she thought she was sexy.  Yuck  I think Graham is way to street smart for AshLee and has here number.  I'm sure she was very disappointed that he went to his own room alone LOL.

You are right about why Jackie picked Marquel for her date ~ he was the only male that didn't appear to be connected to a female.  I'm not a Marquel fan and his behavior Monday night reminded me of Chris B. in PB3 going from one gal to next without even blinking.  I think he is full of himself and yes he does dress funny.  I thought he did in Andi's season as well.  I hope that Jackie gets away from him next week and he can go home for all I care, actually I do care and would like him to go home.

I don't feel bad for Sarah.  I think she is whiny and was foolish when she had Dylan show interest in her and then gives the rose to Robert who didn't show any interest in her other than maybe friendship.  I think she brings her own problems on when she does things like that because she said Elise was her best friend in the house.  Did she go there for a girlfriend relationship or to find a romantic connection?   Episode 3 Discussion 4184157158

Post by singlyme Thu Aug 21, 2014 8:02 am

You folks touched on much of what I was laughing about on Monday night.  TPTB have allowed some comedy in the edit this season.  The two sides between Elise and Chris (the idiot vs the horn dog) and between Graham and Ashlee.

As for Sarah, she stated during Sean's season that she was encumbered by a prosthesis and could do more when the elbow was free to flex.  It is a glaring flaw that's difficult to overlook.  While most of us could easily ignore the missing arm in a friend, I wonder how we'd feel if it were a potential mate.  Apparently, it's what she's experienced - and I feel for her.

Personally I'm just not convinced that Dylan really wanted to explore a relationship with Sarah. I think he was getting frustrated with Elise and either a) wanted to get away from Elise and Sarah was one of the open roses, or b) what better way to get back at Elise with her game playing than to hit on her best friend in the house....jmho. And I was thinking the same thing about Sarah and her relationships. As a friend or family member you can overlook it because you love Sarah and think she's a great person....as a potential mate it is harder to overlook because let's face it, even though we know no one is perfect we tend to still look for perfection. Also, I'm not saying all of them but there are a lot of guys in the Bach Nation that seem a bit shallow and I think they probably automatically put Sarah in the friend zone. That's why I say I think she would do better finding someone outside of this crazy franchise.

Seem a bit shallow?  Laughing I think that is probably an understatement rkc, ITA with it though and as soon as I read it I laughed because it really fits most of the guys that really hang in the Bach Nation like a certain Chris B.  It can probably be said about the gals as well.

I never thought that Sarah should have been in this show in the first place nor should she have been on the Bachelor to begin with.  IMO TPTB are just exploiting her and either she doesn't get it or she doesn't mind.  I would be highly surprised if she did find any guy within this franchise but I think she would have had the best opportunity with Dylan because I don't think he is as shallow as most of the guys in this franchise.  JMO  I don't know how interested Dylan was in her and we will never know but he showed more interest in her than Robert did IMO.  I guess I just don't think that Sarah is as sweet and innocent as most of you think she is, especially from the remarks she has made about Lacy when Elise had displayed some pretty questionable behavior with the guys herself yet she is her BF in the house.  Double standards or what ~ just because she was interested in Marcus who did not show her any interest other than friendship anyway?  We only see of these contestants what TPTB want to show us and Sarah's whiny voice grates on my nerves and it did during Sean's season as well ~ it has nothing to do with her arm, it's her voice with me.  I will quit beating this dead horse now  Beating a dead horse since it seems I have a completely different opinion of Sarah and it is JMO.

LMAO...SLA, the smiley beating the dead horse had me laughing.

Yeah, the shallow comment was me trying to be nice....yes, it does happen from time to time  Twisted Evil

When Sarah showed up on Sean's season my first thought was that they were either showing support for the disabled community or they were folding to pressure to have a disabled person on the show. Who knows. Graham and everyone else that has ever said they met her talk very highly of her....that is except Jillian that made a mean statement after watching this weeks show....but I don't put a whole lot of stock in what Jillian says anyway. She has issues of her own and needs to shut her trap. What she said about Lacy was a nicer version of what a lot of us were thinking of Lacy at the beginning...lol...and even though she was best friends with Elise she pretty much said to her this week what a lot of us were thinking as well. jmo

I would think Jillian had enough to keep her busy with her decorating business and her TV show.  Why do so many of the has-beens keep commenting ad nauseum about current shows.  IMHO they should just carry on with their lives and fade into the woodwork.

SLA, I don't fault Sarah for the comments she made.  They're true.  She's missing an arm, not a brain.  lol.  A little snarky?  Perhaps.  But being disabled with a fear of rejection doesn't necessarily make her an angel.  Even with the whiney voice, she's a step above the riff-raff.

I think they are addicted to the publicity and having their faces in front of the camera.  She reaches a different audience when she comments on current shows and that's why she does it IMO.  I think she thinks her opinion is a lot more valuable than the public does and that's just the way this bach nation people are - they think very highly of themselves and they need a reality check IMO.

I think we just are seeing things differently when it comes to this person and it does feel like beating on a dead horse to me. Beating a dead horse It doesn't mean that either one of use is wrong or right for that matter, just think differently and that is what makes the world go round.  If everyone thought the same all the time it would be a very boring place and not a free country where people are allowed to think for themselves.

It is hard to believe that these folks have developed such large egos.  Jesse C. is another good example of someone who tried to parlay himself into something he is not.  However, he's had the "wisdom" to basically disappear....perhaps because he now has a wife and two (?) children.  And so it goes....
