We still like to talk about seasons past and so we go off topic on various threads. So, let's do it here. Flower

Corbin's season: I became so disillusioned with the manipulation and shenanigans that went on that season that I swore off DWTS. To me, and I reiterate, to me Amber Riley was one of the least deserving winners of all time. She wasn't a terrible dancer but she was strictly middle of the pack.

So I didn't watch season 18 for about 3 weeks but one night I wandered into the TV room and DWTS was on. And so were James and Peta! Boom, I was reeled back in to DWTS like a fish.

I have come to terms with the way the show is produced, prodded and manipulated and don't get too bent out of shape anymore (only occasionally, when I wish it to be more than it is) so viewing is easier on the blood pressure.

Haven't watched a full season of DWTS since the all star show in 2012. I will forever be bummed on that season for many reasons. The biggest being Gilles Marini not taking the mirror ball and not being paired with Cheryl. (Would have sung a different tune had he been 'cause he'd have won)! I finally got a computer so I could cast more votes for him. So sorry Peta fans. She just wasn't right for him.

I came into the show the season Ralph Macchio was on.I didn't watch the show but my friend insisted I vote for her favourite (not RM) so I thought I'd watch a couple dances on the UT.I may have watched five or six dances.I thought the dances and costumes were really done well.I did not vote or see the whole season. After that I would watch the cast announcement to see who was on and like that first time would watch a dance or two on UT.

The season Bill Engvall was announced as a contestant I though he would not last but I like his comedy so I thought I would watch for the fun.He and Emma were so great and fun to watch .... little did I know I would be watching the whole season.

Anyway,it was pretty obvious to me that the show is "produced" and I think the winner is scripted in from the get go.It is still a great show and if the audience believes they have a say in the outcome it's all good .... for the network and the people employed by the show. And since most others shows are police drama and fake reality .... this little show is not so bad.

Last season was enjoyable for me to watch because there weren't any Houghs on board.

For the first 10 season of the show, I only caught bits and pieces and didn't care much who won or lost the MBT.

But in Season 11, I started to watch regularly.

Looking back over those last 12 seasons, I can say that on Finale day, I voted for the winner nine times, and for the runner-up the other three.  For those three, though, I had no difficulty seeing why America chose the winner they did.

So I am thinking tonight that this might be the reason I don't feel the show is unfair to its contestants.  I have yet to see someone win the MBT who I did not think deserved it from the voter's perspective.

That doesn't mean that I don't think the show is "highly produced".  It only means that I don't see any big effect of those shenanigans on who gets the trophy since the person I have been rooting for from the beginning has wound up either winning or coming in second place.  How can I argue with that?

If I had to pick a favourite season it would be difficult because each one had something that drew me and several seasons remain standouts in my memory. That first season I began watching which was season 2 hooked me on DWTS. I loved Drew and Cheryl, such fun. And Helio and Julianne kept me watching attentively. Season 19 was wonderful because our little message board family became Chongies in honour of our Tommy. Chongies we still are. The Herjavec-Johnson love story in season 20 tugged at the heartstrings.

To name only one favourite out of many I have to go with season 18. As I said I was disgruntled and intending to skip the season until I discovered James and Peta. Our message board family coalesced around Team Jeta and we've been a virtual family ever since. We had such fun with the Meryl and Maks supporters that season. And no one can tell me that Jeta's freestyle wasn't THE BEST of the four. I still watch it along with that truly spectacular MJ ChaCha and the stunning Frozen contemporary.

Don't forget the Gasolina Samba, where Peta was a bit overderessed according to Len.

Went to YT specifically to watch the Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff Paso and ended up watching all their dances. OMG! How did they not win???? The Paso was glorious and then there was that mambo and of course that rumba that really looked like a dance of love! The samba, the tango, the foxtrot, every darn one of them spectacular. Mario looked like a pro and Karina, absolutely in her prime was queen of the ballroom. Unsurpassable.

Just saw this from Amy Purdy. Poor girl is having a rough time.

Hey Friends! I'd like to fill you in on the last few days of my life. I am going on day 4 in the hospital after developing a very serious condition called Rhabdomyolysis. You should google it and read about it, its crazy. It basically can occur when you overwork a muscle group and the muscle  begins to breakdown into your blood stream. It can severely damage kidneys pretty quickly, and as most of you know I have a kidney transplant which was a big concern. I have been training as I prepare for the snowboard season and 1 day last week I pushed myself too hard. It seemed to happen so innocently, I did a series of Pull-ups and simply pushed too hard to complete the set. My muscles were a bit sore for a day, nothing bad but then I noticed a bit of swelling in my arm and having a friend in the hospital with this condition last year, I rushed to the ER where they confirmed I had it too. It's been a very intense week hooked up to machines supporting my kidney through this process. It's so crazy to be so healthy and to think you are doing good for your body, then to suddenly have a life threatening condition occur. As scary and serious as this has been, I have been very blessed that my Kidney has stayed strong. I'm also lucky I came in when I did, had I of waited a few more hours before going to the ER my situation could have easily been critical. That being said, my numbers are moving in the right direction, it's  just going to take some time to recover. I wanted to share this with all of you because for 1, I believe social media should give insight into our lives, and life doesn't always have a pretty filter. Also, I want to inform you about this disorder that can happen to anyone. You have to listen to your body.. when it is telling you to stop.. Stop! My Dr said, we all have a breaking point, and I just happened to find mine. I will share regular updates through my recovery. Thanks for the love and support friends. Smile

Oh, wow.  I had hoped her hospital days were long over.  When these athletes say that they push too hard, they mean it!  Hope she mends soon.  Might not be a good idea to compete this snowboard season...

Probably true, but it was the thought of snowboarding again that brought her back after everything she had been through. Taking that away from her would be like telling a pro not do dance anymore.

Couldn't she snowboard for leisure?  It is the extreme training that is breaking down her muscles.  And she only has to do that when she competes.

Amy is competitive. Tell Ryan to just have a Martini by the pool, or Calvin to play softball instead.

Not for forever.  Just for this upcoming season.   There are plenty of things she could do instead for that period.  She's a terrific MC for shows...  she could teach the next generation...  she could move up her schedule for starting a family if that is something she can do safely with this illness... Anything she chooses would be better than dying...

James did not compete when he was injured...  Calvin is retired.... Ryan isn't swimming competitively right now -- he's going to make a movie.   They cope.

And in her case... taking time off from competing might even make her sharper for the following season...

I would have to say that my favorite seasons are the ones when I have that one couple that captures my heart. Bill and Emma, Nyle and Peta and of course James and Sharna.

There are more but that's what works for me.

In the Jana thread, there was discussion about Kellie Pickler...

Here is a music video she did with Derek after their season...

Can't say I was ever a Kellie Pickler fan. Zendaya was my girl that season.

I didn't dislike her at all but just didn't feel any connection to her. On a petty, nit picking note (my best Len impression) her skinny stick like legs drove me crazy.

She was a bit stiff in the Latin dances, but fantastic at Ballroom. That side-by-side challenge with Henry and Anna blew me away, the freestyle was out of this world, and don't forget the trio Paso with Tristan that made Len tell Bruno where his vocal chords could be found. Still one of my favorite seasons with four great finalists, and Sharna's first appearance as a pro!

Ah, the 20th Anniversary Special! I remember Val complaining it was cold in there, and Maks in the old audition video claiming everyone would love him for his looks. Which even the Big C himself found embarrassing ten years later.
