Quartermaine Mansion Query

Post by Freda3000 on Fri Oct 14, 2016 11:08 am

I read in a recent Soap Opera Digest that Monica bought what we now know as the Quartermaine Mansion during the course of the show.... so anyone know anything about that.... like when, why, and where did they live before?

My Prince Charming. I was so happy when Lila found that birthmark on AJ. I had been feeling so badly for him

The Quartermaines are originally from South Hampton, NY.  The family moved to Port Charles in 1978 when Alan decided to stay at General Hospital as a doctor.  He bought the Quartermaine Mansion for Monica as a wedding present.

And every time she could work it into the conversation, Monica tells anyone that it is Her house and that Alan gave it to her as a wedding present.
Prior to marrying Alan Q., Monica had been married to Jeff Webber, Elizabeth's dad.
Just one big disfunctional family.

High five    I really miss Alan, too....not sure what was going on behind the scenes at the time,
but that always seemed like such a big mistake  Crying or Very sad

I always resented the writers at the time for all the Q killing they seemed to love to do. These were some of the best days of our soap. Those two have been through so much and in spite of all the drama and soapiness, they always found their way back to each other.

Lila Q had been married before she married Edward, thought she was divorced but papers had never been signed. So she had unknowingly been a bigamist. Can you imagine that sweet little old lady's children being illegitimate?? It was all cleared up and Lila was the love of Edward's life.      Which didn't stop him from having affairs and his own illegitimate children.

And Monica had her own colorful life, including a o.n.s. with Tracy's son Ned (she didn't know he was her nephew/ he didn't know she was his aunt). Monica was in love with Jeff's brother, Rick, while she
was married to Alan Q. (who bought her the Q mansion for wedding present) and there was some question as to whether A J was Alan's son (he was) or Rick's. Monica would have left Alan for Rick (who was Laura's stepfather) if the baby was his.

Everyone has family connections in Port Charles.

And this was in the early 80's

I always found it funny, not serious when Jeff went to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head and he missed. I loved Jeff, but just found this to be the ultimate soapiness.

There was humor along with all the tragedies.
When Edward and Lila had to live in a room above Kelly's because they went 'broke.'
And Alexis played the Q's butler. And the Q's purebred dog was in love with Lucky's mutt.
And the Thanksgiving pizza.
Alexis and Diane and their adventures.
When Luke & Scorpio would go off script and ad lib.
That's why I like Roger so much. He can inject humor
into a scene that shouldn't be humorous. Like with the puppy.
All the soapiness has to have some humor. Comedy and Tragedy. Otherwise it's just too depressing.
The constant Mob stories with all the violence were a turn off to some of us. Apparently the writers were in love with the Godfather saga....but enough, already.
