Just look at this fabulous birthday cake a fellow in the UK presented his Strictly fan wife with.

I meant that since this year the finale would only be between two contestants, and if they end up being Danny and Louise, people would not be able to complain that one or the other are THE ringer since both have equivalent dance education and experience.

Just when you think you figured it out, Ore tops the leaderboard (total 77). Danny one point behind with 76 for both rounds. Louise and Claudia tied with 73 each. Interesting.

I've just seen the snippets of the dances Strictly puts on FB right after the performance but they all looked good. Ore's first dance was the better of the two. Lots of moaning on FB about the scoring. Par for the course.

One thing is for sure, no one can be accused of holding back or playing it safe. That's the fight you want to see. Scores aside, I think Claudia outdanced Ore by miles. Just compare their Quicksteps. All dances up on YT now. Oti still steps it up- unbelievable and right on the edge of what Danny can manage, especially the American Smooth. Just Louise and Kevin looked as if they had been dressed up at Woolworth for the Samba. The dance would have looked twice as nice with better costumes.

Regardless of scores, AJ redeemed himself. Beautiful choreography and performances. His & Claudia's dances were my favorites. Danny correctly performed the extremely difficult choreography that Oti threw at him but the salsa lacked soul (we call it "sabor"). The song they dance to literally is about the need to laugh & dance and our dear Danny did not smile once. After the looseness and joy that he showed in the samba, I was expecting a more joyful salsa. It seems that the choreography was so complicated that he had not internalized it enough and was too focused on getting the moves right and not the emotion he needed to convey. Their American Smooth was better but still too fast for the emotional aspect of the performance. Given that the main criticism of Danny is that he is technically excellent but too robotic, Oti has to simplify the routines to allow Danny to really master the emotive aspects of the dances.

Claudia's rumba lacked some hip action but it was gorgeous, and she looked stunning. Her quickstep evoked Hollywood's golden era, and despite a larger height difference, she kept a better frame than Ore.

Was not a fan of Ore's dances this week. The QS had a promising start, the costumes were great and he has splendid stamina but it paled in comparison to Claudia's. His AT did not capture the essence of the dance: he was a bit hunched and the choreography did not give him many AT moves.

Louise had the misfortune of bad costumes and performing a traditional samba after Danny's. Her samba dress and hairstyle accentuated her upperback hunch. The dress color was also not the best choice to highlight samba moves. Her tango dress was not very forgiving either, but she was able to convey the joy in that dance that I was expecting to see from Danny's salsa. Both of her performances exhibited the energy and commitment that I was missing since her American Smooth.

As for the scores, it's obvious that the judges want Claudia in the dance-off, and their nonsensical comments about lack of chemistry with AJ (bulls...) are laying the ground for her elimination. She is the only one of the semifinalists that did not sign up for the tour, so this production decision makes sense. I hope that the public saves her.

Don't mind that spoiler, bailadora. Really wanted Danny and Oti in the final. Oti is just a superlative dancer, choreographer and teacher. I know a lot of people would love to see her on DWTS. Whether or not she would like it is another thing,

Both Keo and Oti are of South African origin and almost the same age; so I wouldn't be surprised if they had known each other for a long time. Keo was probably a bit ahead congratulating her because the results show is yet to come, but do we expect her not to make it with Danny? Hard to believe. @bailadora: I had a close look at the Salsa again and thought Danny was actually smiling- it just wasn't the Dovolani-toothpaste-commercial type of grin. Yes, Oti did challenge him to the limit in both dances, but I'm sure it will pay off; it already has with the judges at least.
I feel we are all pretty much on the same page regarding Ore and Claudia, but It just hit me that this judges panel is putting into perspective the exact thing we have been missing on DWTS. Claudia has the same strengths and weaknesses as Laurie, and like James, Ore as a non-dancer has probably achieved much more in comparison. I will give the judges credit for taking that into account. However, having said that Wink, I wouldn't necessariliy have ranked Ore above Danny last night. He performed the crap out of both numbers as Jules would say, but technically the scores weren't justified. Only Craig didn't go overboard and scored him lower in both dances. I thought Joanne was so eager to show she can keep up with Oti that she overloaded (and overdanced) the AT; but Ore isn't Danny. Three tens? No way. In this dance, less can be more- as we have seen with James and Sharna, Louise and Kevin. Again, I can see what the judges were missing in Claudia's Rumba, but still I appreciated she finally stepped into her femininity, and I thought she was underscored there. Now if we assume Danny is safe, we will probably see Claudia in the dance-off with either Ore or Louise. Not hard to imagine whom the judges will pick. Yes, AJ stepped it up- it just might have come too late. It would be miraculous if Claudia was voted through- but I'd love to see the judges' faces in this situation...
Ore has come a long way and I have no reason to dislike him. He just hasn't impressed me as much as e.g.Hinch. Even Judge Rinder, to stick with the Strictly cast for the comparison, had better Ballroom posture than Ore imo.

There's been a leak ith the results it looks like. The FB Strictly group I belong to is a no spoiler group but the comments are furious that the results are already out. No specific names but they're hopping mad.

Went back and looked at Danny's Salsa. Like you I thought he was animated enough and I liked it. I agree it wasn't his best dance but not his worst either.

I anticipate a Danny/Louise final.

You know how we've talked how DWYS pros would fare in the Strictly setting. So I was thinking about the reverse, Strictly pros adapting to DWTS. I think the Strictly pros would take some time because of the totally different focus each show has. On Strictly the emphasis is so much on the individual dance without the need to design a production number as the DWTS pros must. I think we saw that divide with Gleb this past season. It will be different next season as Gleb is no slouch and he will have picked up on what is needed.

It's always an interesting comparison. Gleb was indeed stuck a bit in between after his return- but in his best moments he already adapted himself well (AT, Foxtrot), he just wasn't consistent yet. Oti wouldn't struggle much on DWTS I think because our German version is comparable to it (narrow time schedule, commercial breaks, more show elements, etc.). And I would definitely love to see pros like Sharna and Val choreograph full routines (2 minutes) from week one on and focus on the dancing alone.

Yes Val would likely shine on Strictly. He loves the ballroom element and pure dance is so much more his forte than the full blown production numbers DWTS favours. We already agree that Sharna would star on SCD. She is the ultimate versatile dancer with instinctive understanding of what is required in any situation.

Sweeping in to remind people that on Strictly, external choreographers provide the salsa, Charleston and Argentine tango choreography (unless it's a specific specialism of a pro themselves).

Whatever criticism you have of Danny's salsa or Ore's Argentine tango, the choreography criticism should go to Jonathan Platero (Oksana's husband), rather than Oti or Joanne...

I did some research on Strictly's choreo policy, LeaLianna and it seems external help for AT, Charleston and Salsa is often the norm. Not always but frequently. Interesting.

On DWTS people get all bent out of shape if a pro avails themselves of outside choreo assistance. Lots of outrage at Peta for not doing all her own choreo with Nyle.

Thank you LeaLianna for your input! I cannot imagine though that Oti as a Latin champion dancer needs help with AT or Salsa- rather with Ballroom in her case. Joanne has apparently focussed on Ballroom in her pro-carreer; so maybe it's the other way round with her, but we can only guess.

DMD - perhaps not, but AT and salsa aren't standard international latin dances. Even the greatest international latin dancer of all time wouldn't necessarily dance salsa or AT to the standard of being able to teach or choreograph it (if they ever danced it at all).

Since Lesallee mentioned the example of Peta on DWTS, a lot of people including me had to get used to the fact that external choreographers are more common than we thought. However, I appreciated that Peta opened up about it while others didn't (and in a way were caught in the act).
While I'm typing this, Claudia has been eliminated. As if someone made sure she'd have no chance. I don't know what to think about that.

External choreographers are often used for DWTS as well byt they often are ghost choreographers (similar to ghost writers) that are paid by the pros and not the show & do not work directly with the celebs. The problem is that these choreographers are not officially credited & if the routine is nominated for an award (e.g., Emmy) the ghost choreographer(s) is not included in the credit. There were some rumblings when Witney was Emmy nominated for one of her routines with Alfonso and she didn't credit her ghost choreo. I believe this is more problematic than the open use of choreo help like Strictly does or DWTS pros like Peta (Nyle freestyle) or Gleb (who gives credit to his wife).

Also the pro is the one that knows the strengths and weaknesses of their celebs and generally have to adapt an initial choreography when the celeb has trouble with certain elements in it, so they always have to receive at least partial credit for all the choreographies.

Claudia gone, Danny and Oti reprised their Misty Blue number and the judges were very impressed. The live blog I was following thought Danny had fallen victim to the old, oh he's safe, I don't need to vote curse. I am relieved for sure.

I haven't always been a fan of Claudia, but after last night she would have deserved to advance more than Ore. In the eyes of the judges she would probably have lost the dance-off against any of the other three anyway, and obviously she didn't benefit from the votes Danny lost either. Most of them must have gone to Louise apparently.

There were a lot of reports of voting problems last night. Since the voting window for Strictly is so narrow those reports are troubling and may have affected Claudia the most (since she had a lot of terrain to gain to escape the dance-off). For Danny his first dance-off may have been a blessing in disguise because the stress associated with it may have better prepared him to handle the nerves of the finale. The quality gap between Danny/Oti and the rest is great. I hope the judges dont try to interfere much, that the BBC handles the technical issues with the voting system promptly, and that Danny/Oti will end up victorious.

Voting problems tend to lead into conspiracy theories- remember DWTS 16. I'm with you hoping Danny and Oti bring it home- but then, I have been wrong so often with my predictions this season, and I'm still not over seeing my DWTS-favs come in second...
Anyway, Ore made it to the finals; so let's welcome him there. Still sorry for Claudia though. I often think the last elimination before the finals is the toughest. So close, and then it's over.
Btw: did anyone elde watch Len go up against Craig, who rightfully scored eight for Ore's quickstep? What an odd moment! Now who was interfering there?

What I learned on FB just this morning.
The show is rigged for: Danny, no wait it's rigged for Louise, nope the fix is in for Ore.

None of the judges know anything and should all be replaced. Oti didn't have the correct expression on her face when she and Danny were announced in the dance off. That apparently indicates over confidence and arrogance. The Cliftons are terrible people, no, no, they are amazingly wonderful.

Sound familiar?

Of course it sounds familiar. Isn't it just the nature of the game we are all part of? With three finalists, being top of the leaderboard and getting slightly more than one third of the votes might get you the trophy; at the same time leaving about 66 percent of the voters unhappy, dissatisfied, or even angry. You can imagine what this means for DWTS with four finalists. The closer the race, the louder the uproar. Obviously judges are always in the line of fire- especially if overscoring a competitor or nitpicking affects our personal favorite.
