Dinner that evening was at Stanford’s lovely Faculty Dining Room that had the aura of a Country Club restaurant. Theresa was wearing a milk chocolate-colored chiffon dress, with red sequins sewn in an interesting design at the waist and a skirt ending in a handkerchief-style hem. Midori wore a black spaghetti strap cocktail dress with her red Pashmina draped around her and tied so it fell over one shoulder. The red looked wonderful close to her face and brought a special glow to her coloring. However, Zorro wondered if Ren could have something to do with that glow.
Over dinner, Z enjoyed getting to know Ren who was now a Graduate Student at Stanford. They all laughed over the fact that it truly is a small world! Midori and Ren had met at college in Tokyo a few years earlier and had shared the same circle of Art major friends. Midori had lost touch with Ren when he had graduated. The conversation over dinner was cordial and the food was superb. They all agreed to wait until after the lecture to have coffee and dessert, so the foursome arrived in plenty of time for the presentation at Stanford’s Humanities Center. Of course, ABC had arranged for them to have terrific seats at the front of the theatre.

Over dessert at the Melt Lounge, Theresa and Midori both told Zorro how impressed they were by what they had learned about Susan Moller Okin whose work had focused on how women had been excluded from most Western political thought and her argument that gender issues belong at the core of political philosophy. They were each pleased to have a copy of Toward a Humanistic Justice, the book about Okin’s work, signed by the authors who had given the presentation and read excerpts from the book.
Now they were enjoying Palo Alto’s finest cheesecake, carrot cake, and brownie sundaes and sharing a bit of each. As they were finishing the last sweet bites, Ren rose from his seat and asked Midori to dance when the DJ put on the old favorite, “Do you Want to Dance?” Midori looked at Z, who nodded that it was OK with him. Once Ren and Midori began swaying to the music, Z stood and took Theresa’s hand, pulling her gently to her feet while his eyes communicated just how much he wanted to dance with her.

In the wee hours of the morning, Zorro arrived at the Castle with Theresa and a tired Midori, who had slept most of the way home in the limo. While Midori had napped with dreams about Ren wearing a black mask and wielding a sword, Z and T (Zorro’s new nickname for her) had enjoyed a talk about the future and what they each were looking for in a marriage and family. They had also whispered sweet nothings and kissed and flirted and had a lovely time.

On Friday while Z was in Palo Alto with Theresa and Midori, a date box arrived at the Castle that had the other girls oohing and aahing. The box was shaped and decorated to look like a storybook castle. When Sharon and Maggie opened it, there was a note from Z:
From Castle to Castle we’ll go a hopping,
We might even get to do some shopping!
Be ready at 9AM!
Love, Zorro
When the girls pulled back the pink tissue paper under the note, a pair of trademark, black beanie hats with mouse ears were revealed. One hat was inscribed with a script, Sharon, the other with Maggie. “We’re going to Disneyland!” The girls exclaimed in unison and then hugged each other, jumping up and down!

Zorro slept in on Saturday until 8:30. He quickly showered, dressed, and had a cup of coffee with a bagel for breakfast. He had previously packed what he needed for his date with Sharon and Maggie, so by 9AM, he was by the Castle door, ready and waiting. The girls met him there, excited to begin their impending adventure. The threesome zoomed off in the limo and soon reached a small private airport where a charter plane awaited them and they were in the air by 9:30, headed for L.A.

The plane set down in Los Angeles at 11:00AM. A limo awaited them and they were whisked off into the competitive L.A. traffic. Neither Sharon nor Maggie had ever been to Los Angeles or Disneyland before. They enjoyed looking out of the limo windows at the palm trees, the Spanish-influenced architecture, and were thrilled when they saw the famous white sign on the hill that spelled out H O L L Y W O O D! Zorro laughed with pleasure at the girls’ reactions when they pulled up to the gate of ABC studios.
“What in the world are we doing here?” asked Maggie. “I can’t believe it!” said Sharon. Zorro smiled from ear to ear, “Well, I said we’d be hopping from Castle to Castle today. Our first stop is to meet the cast of ABCs hit series, Castle! “No way!” exclaimed Maggie. “I love that show!” “So, do I!” squealed Sharon. “Actually, I’m a big fan, myself,” Z admitted. After a whirlwind tour of the set, they watched a short scene being filmed. Then they were introduced to and had lunch with Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, who had as good a chemistry in person as they did on the show. After lunch, Sharon, Maggie, & Z were each given a gift basket of souvenirs from the show and were on their way again.

Welcome back, Silver! We’ve missed you! S&T

“That was a real thrill,” Sharon told Zorro. “Yes, thank you so much!” Maggie added. “It was too good an opportunity to pass up,” replied Zorro. “I figured if we were doing L.A., we should do it up good!” The limo worked its way through the freeway traffic and took an exit ramp. “I can’t wait to get to Disneyland! I feel like a little kid,” Sharon announced. “Well, don’t worry, we’ll get there.” Zorro told her, pulling her towards him and offering her his shoulder in an effort at mock comfort.
Suddenly, the view out the window changed and what had been a residential neighborhood turned into a fabulous street with an endless row of posh shops. “Oh my goodness!” Maggie exclaimed in surprise. “Sharon, we’re on Rodeo (pronounced Ro-day-oh) Drive! Sharon was up like a shot and looking out the window at the designer names parading past . . . Tiffany . . . Cartier . . . Dolce & Gabbana . . . Gucci. The car pulled up to the curb and Zorro opened the door and helped the girls out. “Here we are,” he said. The two Bachelorettes looked at the store in front of them. The sign, a handsome black background, with carved letters, painted gold, read Castle & Company. Maggie and Sharon were delighted by the creativity that had gone into their date. “Castle & Company? You have to be kidding me,” said Maggie. “No, it’s the real deal and about to be a name known all over the world.” Zorro told them.
Castle & Company was a delightful dress store owned by an up and coming designer named Vanessa Castle. For the next hour, the girls had a ball trying on dresses to wear that evening at dinner. While they tried things on, they held a private fashion show for Zorro and he chose his favorite dress for each girl. Sharon, with her sleek brown hair, had one of those rare complexions that work well with yellow. Her gown had a white and yellow lace bodice that ended at her slim hips and then fell to the floor in a shower of buttery yellow chiffon. Z’s choice for Maggie was a summer-weight emerald green velvet dress with a princess style cut that suited Maggie well. Z loved Maggie’s new layered haircut and the way her red hair shone and shimmied as she moved her head and he complimented her on it more than once.

Sporting her own new layered hairdo, Margie had left the Castle that morning and taken a flight to San Diego where she visit Linda Vista Hospital’s Department of Records and found the documents she was looking for. She then boarded a flight to Chicago where she took a puddle hopper to Indianapolis and checked into a hotel for the night.

Once their dresses had been packed in huge boxes with layers of tissue paper to keep the gowns from wrinkling, Sharon and Maggie were back in the limo with Zorro. Would they finally get to Disneyland? After a few minutes, Maggie commented, thoughtfully, “I guess that’s the shopping you were talking about in the note you sent us.” “Well, at least part of it!” Z said. “There’s more?” Sharon asked. “We’ll see,” replied Zorro. Then, as if by unspoken agreement, they all felt comfortable just sitting back and relaxing and daydreaming about their busy day thus far.
About a half an hour later, Sharon said, "I feel like a kid saying, ‘Are we there, yet?’ But, can you tell me when we’re going to get to Disneyland?” “Well, actually, we’re here now,” Zorro said, indicating the gi-normous parking lot they were just entering. “Whoo hoo!” Sharon shouted.

The Bachelorettes were surprised when Zorro had the limo driver drop them off at the outskirts of the parking lot. “My father had a business trip to Los Angeles when I was a kid,” explained Zorro, “and my parents turned it into a family vacation. I was eight years old and I’ll never forget getting out of our rental car and having a little tram train pick us up and drive us to the park entrance. I thought that was so cool! I know it may be a bit rinky-dink, but since neither of you have been here before, I want you to have the whole Disney experience.” “Well, I certainly want the whole Disneyland experience!” said Sharon. “Me, too!” agreed Maggie, getting her Mouseketeer hat out of her bag and putting it on, not really caring how dorky she might look. “Now, I’m all ready!”

At the ticket booth, the group was presented with the “Keys to the Kingdom” treatment. They were given special VIP Passes that allowed them to circumvent the lines as much as possible. Over the next few hours, Sharon and Maggie each lived her childhood dream of going to Disneyland. They rode everything form the Tea Cups, Peter Pan, and Snow White to Space Mountain to the Tower of Terror. They climbed the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House, Soared over California, raced cars in Tomorrowland, and sailed across the gentle waters of It’s A Small World and the murky seas of The Pirates of the Caribbean. They saw Mickey and Minnie and Goofy and Donald and had pictures taken with each. They snacked on ice cream and hot dogs, in that order. When they visited the large Emporium on Main Street, Z insisted on buying both of his Bachelorettes a snow globe music box with a castle in the center of the crystal ball. The music boxes played, of course, what else, but “Some Day My Prince Will Come!”

At 7PM, Zorro told Sharon and Maggie that it was time to dress for dinner. He led them to the Sleeping Beauty Castle where the Bachelorettes were given a dressing room to change into their Vanessa Castle evening gowns. Disney provided a team of professional artists to create princess hair and makeup. The Disney magic worked because when Maggie and Sharon looked in the mirror, they looked and felt like princesses. When they arrived at the tower room where they were to dine with Zorro, they were surprised to see that another man had joined him. “Bob!” cried out Sharon, “What are you doing here?”
Although she hadn’t met him, since she and Sharon were roommates at the San Francisco Castle, Maggie had heard all about Bob Frame after Sharon’s Football Game/Homecoming Dance date. Zorro and Bob were both dressed in outfits that brought to mind Prince Charming with tunic style shirts over tight fitting pants tucked into soft suede boots. “You guys sure got dressed up!” Maggie teased them. “Well, there’s a reason that you’ll find out about after dinner. You both look gorgeous!” Zorro replied. Bob gave Sharon a hug hello and she reciprocated. The four sat at a circular table in the circular tower with a view looking over their kingdom and had a lovely dinner with great conversation and lots of laughter.

At 9PM, Disneyland’s famous Electrical Parade started winding its way through the park. On the first float sat two couples who led the Parade as the Guests of Honor. Dressed as a Prince and Princess, with crowns fixed firmly on their heads, Zorro and Maggie waved from their thrones at the front of the float. They sat in front of a large Crystal pumpkin lit by small lights. Waving from their thrones on the other side of the pumpkin were another Prince and Princess who, of course, were Bob and Sharon. Sharon was thinking that this certainly had been another unexpected, but delightful, “first, ever” Bachelor date!

BTW, in case you were wondering, Zorro, Maggie, and Sharon all flew home after the parade and were back at the Castle before midnight! S&T

On Sunday morning, Margie sent a text message to Maggie, knowing that she was now three hours ahead of California time and figuring her sister needed to sleep in after her date the day before to Disneyland. The text message read:
“Good Morning, Sister! Yes, we ARE twins and I’ve got the birth certificates to prove it! I spent the night in Indianapolis and will drive to Terre Haute today and surprise Pops! Love you, Margie”

Two hours later, Margie was unlocking the door to her father’s ranch style home in Terre Haute, Indiana. For the first time in her life, she saw where he had lived all these years with Maggie. The house was just as Maggie had described. Margie lingered in the living room, taking in all of the furniture and how it was arranged. She paused to look at the photos of Maggie on the fireplace mantle. The one of Maggie with their father left a bittersweet, but excited taste in her mouth. He looked kind and, she hoped he would be, understanding. Maggie had told her that on Sunday morning, Dad would have gone to church and then to JJ’s, a diner on Main Street, for his usual Sunday dinner. He would not be home until around 2PM. Margie had a couple of hours to explore the house, settle into Maggie’s room and wait for Pops, as Maggie often called their dad. Margie’s stomach was riddled with nervous butterflies.

The room Margie enjoyed exploring the most was Maggie’s bedroom. It was painted a light blue and contained lots of memorabilia from her childhood – 4H ribbons from the county fair, trophies from soccer and gymnastics, pictures with her BFFs, her High School prom photo, standing with a handsome young man, a bookcase full of favorite novels, as well as her Nursing textbooks and other college level texts. The room was neat and orderly. The clothes in the closet resembled things she had in her own closet back in Flagstaff. The room made her feel at home. By 1:45, Margie was laying on Maggie’s bed, trying to sooth her nerves over the upcoming meeting with her father, when she was startled by the doorbell ringing. Margie hesitated. Should she answer it or act like no one was home? After the doorbell rang a second time, she went to the front door and peered through the curtain covering the narrow window at the right of the door. A young man stood on the stoop. Margie tentatively opened the door.
“Maggie!” the man called out, obviously happy to see her. “Yes?” Margie said a bit dumbly, staring into a handsome face with a golden complexion, gorgeous brown eyes and soft, straight black hair. “I had no idea you were home! Let me in and tell me all about it!” This guy seemed to know Maggie pretty well, so Margie let him in. “What are you doing here?” she asked, opening the door and letting him into the house. “Your dad mentioned at the lab the other day that there was a small leak going on under the bathroom sink. You know how he is . . . great with a hammer and most repairs, but all thumbs when it comes to plumbing. I told him, I’d stop by to check it out.”
The lab? Margie thought. OK, this must be the assistant who worked with her father . . . The one who wanted to date Maggie . . . What was his name again? Marco! “Well, it’s a good thing you came by then, Marco.” Looking at her watch, she added, “Dad should be back in a few minutes. He’ll show you where the problem is. I just got home a little while ago.” “Yes, so tell me all about it! Did you win that Bachelor’s heart or what?” “Well, I really can’t answer that, you know. I’m under contract not to talk about the show, but I had a great time and I’m so glad I went. Can I get you something to drink? I have no idea what Dad has in the house . . .” Marco assured her, “No, I’m fine. It’s good to see you!” Margie looked into Marco’s warm chocolate eyes, took in his broad, charming smile, and wondered what the heck Maggie had been thinking not to date this guy.
To Be Continued . . .

At 2:05, Rusty McCarthy walked in the door and was surprised to see his daughter. “Maggie!” he exclaimed, crossing the room to give her a big bear hug. “Pops!” Margie squealed, hugging her Dad tightly and feeling so sentimental about finally meeting her father that tears came to her eyes. Rusty looked in his daughter’s face, caught her wet eyes, and said, “Well, I missed you, too! What happened? I guess this means that Bachelor has let you go.” “Well, I really can’t say Dad, but I had a great time!” “I knew you would. Now we’ve got a Reality TV Star in the family.” He teased. “Or maybe, two!” Maggie said mysteriously, teasing back. She was thinking with relief, so far, so good! Her father was a handsome man with one of those Irish faces that had a forever boyish look. Seeing her father, she now knew she had inherited his oval shaped face, red hair, and green eyes. “So, Marco,” Rusty said. “I see you’ve come to help me out with that sink. Let me show you where it is and then I’ve got to have some time with Maggie.”

Rusty, whose real name was Michael, had picked up the nickname as a child because of his hair and the name had stuck. After getting Marco started, he returned to the living room and sat in his comfortable easy chair eager to hear what his daughter could tell him about her recent experience. “So, Maggie, what is he like?” “Well, Dad, you’re going to laugh, but I never really got to see him, at least completely. For some reason ABC decided there should be a new twist and they gave him a mask to wear and the pseudonym of Zorro!”
“Zorro?” Rusty laughed and Margie joined in. “Yes, Zorro, but the Bachelorettes usually call him Z. He’s really nice, Pops. He has beautiful blue eyes that are so expressive, despite his mask and he’s a real gentleman. I had a lot of fun getting to know him. That’s all I can say right now.” “Well, if he’s coming for one of those Hometown visits, we’ll have to roll out the red carpet.” “If it comes to that, we will!” Margie agreed with her father.

Dare I hope the prob is fixed this time?? Hmmmm??? I am posting this without having the time to do my catch up reading so if I am barging in on someone/or take the girls where yours have already gone, please forgive... I did read this page and it is just beautiful S&T!! And Silver-always love your posts!
Z. wondered if the trip to one of his old childhood haunts would please his bachelorettes. He couldn't help feeling a bit apprehensive at the prospect of opening this much of himself up to the women he barely knew. He still had no idea what it was exactly that Aubrey did for a living, and nothing about her family. Jasmine was a sweet little doll but did she have passions that they could share besides the obvious ones that ran through his heart on a regular basis in her presence? And then there was Penny... He knew he adored her 'pushing the envelope' humor and beautifully wicked smile, but would there be the deepest connection needed to keep her here till the end, or was she fated to go the way of past bachelorettes: fading into the background before the wine was more than a grape left on the vine; it's flower unopened, it's heady scent evaporated into thin air... Would they-any of them-see the beauty and memories of his favorite place in the world as he did-etched in his heart and eternally brilliant in the California sun...

The doorbell announcing guests to the castle never ceased to make Penny giggle. It seemed strangely out of context to hear an ordinary bell in lieu of blaring trumpets notifying the occupants of arrivals. As she opened the sturdy door an oblong box adorned with a deep green bow captured her full attention. She was ecstatic to see it addressed to her, Jaz, and Aubrey. "It's here-our date box Jaz," she explained with delight. "Finally! I thought Z. would never take us out again after the 'excitement' from some of the other dates," Jaz commented acidly. Aubrey breezed down the stairs prepared to take the box out of Penny's hands, but Jaz stepped in just in time to thwart her rather rude attempt. Penny deftly removed the bow and opened the box with trembling fingers as Jen looked on with a smile. "Hmmm... we have tennis shoes, warm sweaters, sunglasses, sunblock, and another box," Penny surmised. She handed the second large box to Jaz, and all three girls couldn't help but emit a collective "ooooohhhhh" as Jaz pulled out three dresses of varying shades with matching bags and shoes. It was clear to Jeneva that Z. knew his bachelorettes better than he thought, for each set seemed to be sized expertly and in keeping with his preferred color for each girl. "Wow! This should be some date," Jasmine stated with a shocked expression on her very cherubic face. Jen gave Penny a pat on the shoulder and told Penny she could borrow her favorite earrings-all the while thinking how perfectly they would go with her pale aqua gown...

Chip, loving it! How cute about the giggling when the doorbell rings at the Castle and so glad Jasmine blocked Aubrey from getting to the box first! Ha! Keep it coming! We've missed you, S&T

Haha! thanks S&T!! We will find a girl for our bachelor yet!!
As usual Aubrey was first out of the shower and drying her hair. Jen was allowed to help Penny get ready and filled her in on Aubrey's progress. Jen felt a stabbing familiarity with this scene and she realized how much she missed being with these girls as they tried to find their soul mate. "Penny-I hope He is the one you dream of. I know I wasn't meant to be with him but I wish I was at least going out with all of you," Jen admitted wistfully. This adventure was winding down for Jeneva and she felt out of sorts as the realization of possibly losing her twin hit her like a ton of bricks. Penny hugged Jenny and whispered quietly into her sister's ear: "You will be with us silly-you will be our driver this evening! It's all cleared with Chris! I'll explain later," she added with a wink. Jen hurried out to get ready and looked for Mr. Harrison-what would she be wearing??... Aubrey pulled the tawny colored sweater on over her tank top and ran a brush through her golden waves. Her gold nugget earrings in place, and a spritz of her favorite perfume sealed the deal. With a look over her shoulder as she left the shared bedroom, she made her way to the salon in order to wait for the limo. She had to make some amends for the last date, and hoped she could get back in Z.'s good graces. If there was one thing she knew how to do it was grovel-she seemed to insert her foot into her mouth frequently and so now she would have to be gracious and loveable-and pronto... The ivory cashmere scarf from her dad last Christmas would match the brown tweedy sweater Z. had thoughtfully selected for her small frame. Jasmine loved how it enhanced the few fawn flecks in her normally black deep set eyes. She pulled her long lustrous hair back into a neat pony and loped down the stairs in her favorite tall walking boots. Z. was there when she entered the room and he smiled thinking that all she needed was a horse to complete the picture...

After fixing the leak under the sink, Marco lingered in the living room. He talked a little “shop” about the lab with Rusty, but Margie kept catching him looking at her like she was a fresh drink of water. He was hoping for an invitation to dinner and Rusty didn’t disappoint him. “Marco, we at least need to give you dinner to thank you for repairing that leak. How about we all go over to The Imperial Lanes? We can have pizza and bowl a few games. Does that sound OK for your first night home, Maggie?” Rusty paused, and looked at Margie, adding, “I’m sorry, honey, but I don’t have much in the house right now to eat. I wasn’t expecting you home, you know.” Margie wondered what Maggie would do and say under the circumstances, but she thought it sounded like fun and she wanted to have as much time with her Dad as she could. She also considered Marco a pleasant surprise. “Sure, Pops,” Margie said. “Pizza and bowling sounds great!”
